He said I would be going shopping, not that they would bring the whole boutique to me. He definitely meant every clause.

I am doomed.

Ellen knocked at the door this morning and brought in every single roll of clothes into the closet. They are so gorgeous.

Who would have thought that I, Ava Sinclair, would own everything she ever wished for?

From being called a hoe at the bar, a loser at the Lode's Mart counter, a thief at Tony's restaurant, and a silly nanny/cleaner at Ruby's to this "luxury."

I never once complained.

At the end of each week, I had at least a hundred pounds, just enough to get Mom checked at the hospital and to get some groceries too. I rubbed my hands on the silk fabric that clung to my skin.

I remember being caught with a ring in my mouth. I was only tasting the leftover cake as a kitchen hand when my teeth ground on something hard. I spat it out and was called a thief at Tony's restaurant.

My fingers lingered on the box of jewelry in the see-through cabinet.

"Ma'am, you haven't tried this on." Ellen held out a velvet red gown. My hands glided through the fabric.

It held my slender figure. My lips stretched in a smile.

They kept bringing in clothes, perfumes, jewelry, and shoes into the closet.

Which of them am I going to take? They are all so beautiful. I hadn't completed the thought and--

Ellen started placing them into the wardrobe.

"I haven't chosen any yet. Why are you putting them into the closet?"

She sort of knew that I liked them all but where's the fun.

"Sire's orders."

What's the use of a shopping idea if I buy everything? This is no fun at all.

I rolled my eyes and walked into my room, slamming myself onto the bed, face down.

Call it a tantrum or whatever.

I just hate it when someone makes all the decisions for me. Simply put, I hate Lorenzo.

"Sire wants you dressed in this for tonight's ball." She lifted a cream dinner gown.

"Sire this, sire that, sire here, sire there. I will choose my own outfit."

"For goodness' sake, it's taking hours, ma'am. Sire would not be pleased if you keep him waiting."

I rolled my eyes at Ellen as she tugged at the laces to tie my corset.

I stepped out of my room, led by the bald butler and Ellen, moving her hands over the flow of the gown.

"Stop it already."

"You look like a fucking dessert," his voice echoed through the room filled with men dressed in designer tuxedos. "Can I have a piece?"

He breathed in my perfume and lightly kissed me. It sent shockwaves through my body.

He held my arm with his. My legs felt warm, and I froze. Swallowing hard, I looked at Lorenzo.

"What's the matter?"

"I'm sorry, my monthly --"

"It's alright. Ellen, take care of her."

I watched him leave with his men following behind him.

Lorenzo's POV

My phone buzzed with messages, one after the other, with an annoying ping sound.

"Sir, there are words that Enzo DeLuca is back, but no sighting of him."

"Be on the lookout. Did the Sinclair brothers deliver on their deal?"

"Yes, it's on its way to the depot."

"Hit the road."

I arrived at the depot in the outskirts of the city. Let me see if the Sinclair brothers would deliver as they promised. Their heads would roll, if they try to play on my intelligence.

And for the girl, I could auction her off to a big bidder and get back my money.

The Romano's heir would have a good shot at this.

I adjusted my blazer and brushed my hair to the sides with my fingers and stepped into the cold room.

The door flung open, and there stood the exact image of Aria DeLuca.

No fucking way.

I gestured a guard to me. "Who is this girl?"

"Sinclair brothers' deal."

I looked at her bloodied legs, arms, and head.

A torn negligee revealing too much skin as it was.

I wasn't sure she was the deal, but her eyes looked feisty and bold but also sweet.

I didn't mean to throw a punch at her, but she asked for it, and all the memory of Aria's betrayal flashed before my eyes.

I loved her so much, but her filthy family killed my father.

But Ava....

Bringing her into my home was a mistake. Letting her lie in my house was blatant proof I still love her.

And kissing her was…

There's something I can't explain. Is it her eyes or the way she looks at me? I don't believe in coincidences.

"Sir, there's something you must see." I shuffled through the papers.

"And so what?"

"Maria Sinclair isn't Ava's biological mother. She was adopted."

I don't fucking care if she was. I will keep my enemy close. It would be nice to enjoy a few games with her. All she cares about is her foster mother.

Aria doesn't care about anyone, so it was easy for her to betray our love.

More proof that Ava can't be Aria.

This is just some washed-up doppelganger with her own fucking personality.

I stepped out of my study to find her snooping around. Another annoying trait. She thinks she can escape from me. I won't let her.

Isabella has been hunting my father's will. And she is just the key to me getting the Valenti Corporation.

My phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out. It was pictures of Isabella and some fucking mafia dons.

Woman doesn't know her place.

KEEP AN EYE ON HER, I texted back.

I slid my phone beside me and slipped into my gym shoes.

Lorenzo’s pov “Lorenzo Valenti!!!, I know you are here.”Bang Screams and cries as the chandelier dropped to the middle of the restaurant. People bent down beneath their tables.I crouched behind a table. As the six men walked up to each table tossing the cloth off each table. I cocked my gun as they got closer. Three tables closer.Bang.I shot the guy. One down five to go. Ow. I picked up a towel and tied it over my arm that was grazed to stop the bleeding.“Over there”, one gestured to the table I was crouching behind, as they drew nearer I aim at each one of them one shot at a time, crouching behind tables and walls as I made my aim. While the restaurant guests kept screaming under tables and chairs. If they really want to kill me. They should have tried harder. Then the sounds of siren wailed from a distance. The last guy ran out of the restaurant. Then there was a gun shot and I got up and walked slowly, stepping on broken plates and cups.I stood by the side of the door,

I stood there trembling at the television screen. My life had always been so simple but here I am tossed into a world where I am hunted. Two weeks ago, I was just a mere girl doing her three jobs to take care of her mother and home.“The bills are overdue, Ethan I thought you would handle the water bills, while I handle the light bills and food, don’t forget about mum’s piling medical expenses, it’s just isn’t easy and Marco, I threw a glance at him, what happened to your job at the cafe”“I don’t really enjoy it-“I am not talking about the fact that you barely contribute a penny to our bills”“There she goes again nagging”“I am not nagging, you both spend your money on parties and drinks”Ethan rolled his eyes, snatching the bills from my hands, “ all you do is nag bitch”“Language” maria hissed.“Mum, she can just be so overbearing, how much are the bills, what the hell?” Ethan eyes widened.“What’s that? “ I tried to pull the envelope in his hands but he put it behind him.“Non

“Mom?” My voice barely rose above a whisper. The figure in the wheel chair lifted her head from the book in her laps. My mom’s blue eyes widened in disbelief.“Ava…?”I froze at the sound of her voice. It was soft, trembling, yet it was hers.“Mum…” I stepped forward slowly. My hands clenched into fists at my sides, as if I could steady the days of fear, worry, and loss between us. Maria’s hands shook as she reached for mine, her frail fingers brushing mine. Her eyes glistened with tears. She drew me in for a hug. Her arms felt so warm. The warmth I have been seeking all these days.“I… I thought you were gone… forever.” Her voice broke. “The people… I thought the mafia… I thought…” She shook her head, sobbing quietly.Mafia???“I’m here now, Mum. I’m safe.” My voice caught, and I struggled to hold back my own tears.“thank God you are safe and those bloody gangsters did not come close to you”I pulled her closer, clutching her to my chest. I could feel her heartbeat, weak but alive

CHAPTER 7Ava's POV"You will need this."Lorenzo's hands moved around my waist, sliding something into my pocket. I felt the hard edge of a card against my hip."No—" I pulled the black card from my pocket, trying to hand it back to him."Just take it. While I am being nice." His voice was soft, almost gentle.Hold on a minute.Did he like what happened last night? He pulled me closer, his chest pressing against mine. He brushed my lips with his and lingered there. My lips spread into a smile despite myself. I was happy. Happy that I was finally going to see my mother.Lorenzo pulled away and walked to the window, his back to me. He lit a cigar, the flame from the lighter casting shadows across his face. I could tell something was bothering him. The way his shoulders were tense, the way he stared out at nothing.Well, what's my business?"Take all the time you need," he said without turning around.Tired of me already.I turned to leave when I overheard the house guard talking to Ell

"Sir, we are being followed.""Keep moving according to plan."I quickly typed into my phone: KEEP TAILING THE BLACK CAR BEHIND MINE.I arrived at the airport and sat in the VIP lounge, my eyes fixed on one of my men dressed exactly like me as he boarded the plane. My jaw clenched as I watched him disappear through the gate. I requested an economy seat on the next flight to Italy.Three cars had left my residence this morning. One taking Ava to see her mom, another to the train station, and the last one that brought me here. They were all being tailed.I pulled out my phone and dialed Ava's number. My fingers drummed against my thigh as I waited for her to pick up."Ava, have you gotten to your mom's?""Not yet."My heart dropped into my stomach. I sat up straight, my grip tightening on the phone."What do you mean, not yet?""We are going down south. My mother's hospice was changed."Fucking Sinclair brothers."Alright." I tried to keep my voice steady.I dropped the call and quickly

"Sir, we have found Syl Calante's hideout.""Bring that son of a bitch to me."I slid on my jacket and left the penthouse, not for the supposed ball.I was going to go with Ava so that Isabella would know how keen I am on getting Valenti Corporation from her.Killing Syl is the most exciting thing that has happened to me, other than getting Ava to sign the contract and kissing her lips. My fantasies are running wild with her touch and her body and her scent. No doubt she reminds me of those nights with Aria."Syl, you silly idiot, thought you could run away from me."The old man sat on the floor of the abandoned building, gagged and tied."I won't ask for my money again this time." I raised my gun, cocked it, and placed it on his head.Bang.One down, six more to go. Allies of the DeLucas and debtors too.My men put him in a body bag. "Let this be a warning to everyone who becomes an ally with Enzo DeLuca." My men sent the information to all allies Enzo was putting together.Poor Syl
