MasukAlaric's POV
I stared blankly at the papers scattered all over my desk but my mind was no where near them, it kept drifting back to what happened in the courtyard.
To Ava, that howl.
What is happening to her? And why now?
“She’s different” my wolf Dax, echoed in my head and I rolled my eyes.
“She’s a servant” I spat back.
“A servant who has kept you up thinking about her” he fired back and I deadpanned.
“I’m not thinking about her, I’m thinking about the changes surrounding her”
“Keep telling yourself that, but you know the truth” he said and I scoffed. “You felt it when you touched her” he added and I instantly remembered how Ava clutched her arm in pain after I touched her that day.
“That was nothing” I shrugged.
“Then why did you care about her when she howled, you know she’s not human,” he paused for a while before he continued again “She might just be…….
A knock on the door snapped me out of my thoughts as I let out a relieved sigh, finally he shut up.
“Come in” I said as I straightened my posture. The door knob turned slightly and Lucian walked in, followed by Kieran and they both stared at me.
“Is there something you want to say?” I asked and Lucian rolled his eyes.
“You know why we are here Alaric, it’s about Ava” he said and I shrugged.
“Something about her is different” Kieran said and Dax stirred at the mention of her name but I ignored him.
“What about her?” I asked and Lucian gave me a questioning look.
“You know about the rumors circulating around her right?” Kieran fired back and I sighed.
“Yes I know about the rumors but it’s not that simple, we don’t know what’s going on with her” I said and they both sat down as they stared at me.
“Actually, I have been investigating about Ava ever since that dinner when she spilled wine on me” Lucian said and I nodded.
“And I have also been investigating about her since I caught her in the archives on the day of the dinner” Kieran said and I inhaled sharply.
“So what’s going on with her?” I asked and Lucian bit on his lower lip before responding.
“I don’t know much about her yet, but her tattoo….” He hesitated for a second as he looked at us.
“Well?” I asked and he smiled.
“I don’t know, it’s very weird but her tattoo isn’t a wolf mark”
“What!” Kieran and I asked almost immediately.
“I know, it sounds crazy but I looked into wolf clans in the whole of Valeria, both old and new and nothing matched her tattoo”
“What does that mean then?” Kieran asked and he shook his head.
“I don’t know, but what ever her tattoo is….. it’s ancient” he said as he locked eyes with me and I gulped.
“Okay, Kieran you said you caught her in the archives?”
“I also did catch her there later on” Lucian added and I nodded.
“Well yeah, the day of the dinner. I noticed the lights in the archives where slightly on so I went to check it out and I saw her there, the room with the portraits. She was shakened up by Alpha’s Theron portrait and clutching her arm, I didn’t read much into it then just assumed she was scared she ripped the painting or something but now…. I think her tattoo reacted to it” He said and I ran my fingers through my hair as I pinched my chin.
“And when I put two and two together, coupled up with the fact that Lucian also saw her there. I think she’s connected to your dad some way” Kieran said.
“He does have a point Alaric. I mean, Ava was brought in here to repay Alpha Damien’s debt, but we don’t even know what the debt was” Lucian added.
“That’s true” I said as I leaned back into my chair. “Why was the repayment of the debt Ava?” I asked blankly as I tried to figure it out.
“Her mother…” Kieran said and we turned to look at him.
“What about her?” Lucian asked.
“What if she wasn’t just a human”
“What do you mean?” I asked with a raised brow.
“Hear me out, Lucian said her tattoo is ancient and not a wolf mark, also her mother is in our archives too. What if the debt wasn’t regarding Alpha Damien but her mother” He said and I crossed my hands on my chest as I threw my head back.
“We have been looking at things from the wrong direction, it does make sense for the debt to be concerning Ava’s mother” I said as I exhaled deeply.
“Then if her mother wasn’t human, what was she?” Lucian asked and Kieran shook his head.
“I don’t know” He said as he pressed hard on his forehead.
“We need to find out what Ava’s mother was” I said as I sat back and they nodded.
“And also why my father put a debt on Alpha Damien regarding her….” I stood up from my seat as I walked towards the window and admired the shining stars in the sky.
“What ever Ava’s mother was…. Is already slowly awakening in Ava.”
Hi guys, so initially this book was supposed to be from only Ava’s POV but you know Ava’s not going to be everywhere all the time so this chapter isn’t her POV, instead it is Alaric’s POV. Thanks for understanding y'all❤️🥺
Ava’s POVI sat at the edge of the oak tree with Lyra, Elina and Tina as we shaded ourselves from the blazing sun. The three of them were having a conversation about something but I didn’t bother listening in, and focused my attention on the book beta Kieran gave me.Ever since our conversation, I couldn’t stop thinking about what he said.‘I don’t think your arrival in the Blood-Fang clan was by accident’What did he mean by that? I wondered as I traced my fingers across the book. The cover was worn and old with strange markings carved into the corner, I took a deep breath in as I opened the first page. The pages were filled with handwriting I couldn’t understand. Some of the words were written in an unfamiliar language, while others had faded so badly that I could barely make them out.I turned to another page and it was the same thing. I groaned in frustration then Elina tapped me.“Are you okay?”“I’m fine, it’s just….this book beta Kieran gave me, I can’t decipher it” I said as

Ava’s POV I slowly opened my eyes, as a numb feeling settled at the side of my head. I groaned a bit as I squinted my eyes and noticed my surroundings. I immediately sat up as I looked at the unfamiliar surroundings.‘Where am l?’ I wondered to myself as the sound of water running from the bathroom filled the room.I slowly got up from bed as I tried to tiptoe towards the door to escape, but all of a sudden, the water stopped running. I couldn’t think straight on what to do next, so I jumped back into the bed and pulled the covers over me.I could hear footsteps walking closer towards me until they stopped directly at the foot of the bed.“I know you’re awake Ava,” Alpha Alaric’s cold voice said and I sighed. I slowly removed the covers from my head as we locked eyes, his striking brown eyes instantly captivating me like it always did, but then he cleared his throat and I snapped out of it as I looked down.“Yes, Alpha” His hands moved to touch me but he stopped mid air and he quick
Ava’s POVThe first words in the old yellow stained page instantly drew my attention. ‘My dear child,….. if you are reading this right now it means I’m already dead and I have failed you, and the secrets I buried with me can no longer stay hidden’………..My fingers gripped the edge of the journal as my eyes widened in terror, I was about to turn to the next page when the click of the door sounded in my ears.“Ava?” I heard Lyra’s voice say behind me, and l quickly hid the journal underneath Tina’s book as I turned to face her.“Yes!”“Are you okay?” She asked as she stared at me.“Are you sure?” She asked again with a raised eyebrow and I immediately felt my chest tighten as my eyes filled with tears.“I’m not okay” I said in a shaky voice as I covered my face with my hands.“Oh Ava,” she said as she rushed towards me and pulled me into her arms.“You are going to be fine” she added as she hugged me tighter and I cried into her sleeve.“Why….why is this happening to me” I cried out.“
Ava's POV“What was that?” I heard Lord Lucian ask, and I instantly snapped back to my senses, I squeezed myself into the wall behind the study as I watched him come out and check around. He looked down the hall way for a while before finally going back inside the study. I let out a breathe I didn’t know I was holding as I slow slid to the ground. The name Seraphina that I couldn’t stop thinking about all this time belonged to my own mother. How?Why?What’s going on? Why is her name in the blood-fang archives?I felt my chest tighten as I struggled to breathe, I gasped for air a few times as I beat my chest to calm myself down. I wiped my face with the back of my trembling fingers as the tears kept rolling down.“My mother…” I whispered as I rested my head on the wall. My father never let me know about her, I spent years of my life telling myself she wasn’t important and there was no need chasing a ghost, even Maid Thalia was forbidden to tell me about her. ‘Wait, Maid Thalia!’ I
Ava's POV“I knew you did come here Ava, earlier than I expected tho” a familiar voice said behind me and I gulped hard as I slowly turned to face him.“Lord Lucian, it’s not what it looks like?” I said immediately as I put my hands in the air and he scoffed.“Really?” He asked as he leaned back on the chair, “What does it look like then?” He added as his eyes trailed over me and I gulped.“I….I saw the door wasn’t closed, so I came to close it” I said as I stared at him and a chuckle escaped his lips.“If you came to close the door, why did you come inside?” he asked with a raised brow and I instinctively gripped the hem of my dress as I bit down on my lower lip.“Be….because” I stammered as I stared at him.He stood up from the chair as he walked towards me, the more I walked backwards the more he closed the space between us until my back touched the door.“Ava Blackwood” he said, as he lifted my chin with two fingers, forcing me to meet his gaze.“Yes, Lord Lucian?” I asked back a
