Nora's POV

Rafael chose a quiet location for our date. Halfway through the short carriage ride, I noticed this and asked curiously why he’d picked somewhere so remote.

“I wanted our first real evening together to be somewhere peaceful,” he said, watching my face carefully in the low light for any sign of how the word ‘first’ had landed. “Somewhere that belonged to neither of our old lives. I thought you deserved that much, at least.”

I didn’t argue the point, only turned to look out at the dark

Elena's POVMy mother had been rubbing at her knuckles more than usual that morning, wincing every time she reached for the kettle. When I finally asked her about it, she admitted her joints had been aching for days. "It's nothing," she said, waving me off the way she always did when she didn't want to be fussed over. But I'd already made up my mind to walk into town and pick up something from the healer before the day got away from us."I'll go pick up some medicine for you. I don't want you to keep on hurting even if it's just a little," I told her, already reaching for my jacket. "It's a short walk. I'll be back before you even notice I'm gone."Kennedy, who'd arrived not long, looked up the moment he heard where I was headed. "I can go for you," he said, setting the last log he was carrying down and brushing off his hands. "There is no sense in you making the trip when I'm already heading that way later." He said and I wasn't even surprised by his words anymore."You weren't headi

Cassians POVI told myself for months that staying away from her was the right thing to do. The responsible thing. The choice a man with any sense of honor would make.I'd left Nora and Rafael's mating ceremony that night without saying goodbye to Elena. Without trusting myself to look at her one more time and still find the strength to walk out the door. Every week since then, I told myself distance would dull whatever this was I felt for her, only that It didn't. If anything, the time only sharpened it. It turned what I'd hoped would fade into something that gnawed at me in quiet moments. I couldn't stop thinking about Elena. My mind kept circling back to the particular sound of her laugh, the way she used to look at me like I was someone worth trusting and all the moments we spent literally doing nothing together.By the time I finally admitted I couldn't keep pretending otherwise, I'd already decided to go back. I told myself it was just to see how she was doing. Nothing more. A

Elena's POVLife took on a pretty unexpected turn from here. Every morning I woke in the small guest room my parents had fixed up for me, and I found myself grateful all over again for how simple, how ordinary, it all was.I would spend the early hours in the kitchen with my mother, learning recipes she'd been saving in her head for thirty years. Listening to her talk about the neighbors and the small dramas of village life while flour dusted our hands. Then I'd move outside to help my father with whatever his knees wouldn't let him manage alone like mending fences and clearing brush, while he supervised from a chair he insisted on dragging out to the yard.Kennedy on the other hand fit pretty well into our mundane life. He showed up most days with some excuse or another, although as the weeks went on the excuses got thinner and more ridiculous. He just began to show up with no real reason anymore. It wasn't a problem with me and most certainly not a problem with my parents who absol

Elena's POV The following days that passed revolved as much around Kennedy's visits as it did around my parents' routines. I found myself noticing things about him I hadn't expected to notice. He had a way of knowing what my father needed before my father even asked. He'd crouch down and check the hinges on the barn door without being told they were sticking. He'd quietly take over the heavy lifting the second my father's hands started to shake from the strain. My mother, for her part, had clearly claimed him as her captive audience. Every story she'd ever collected about me, she told him. And Kennedy never seemed to tire of it. He'd sit at our table, tea going cold in front of him, while she pulled out memories from before I was even old enough to remember them myself."Elena used to hum while she walked," my mother told him one afternoon. Her eyes were bright with the kind of joy that still caught in my throat every time I saw it. "Even as a toddler, before she could talk. Just thi

Elena's POV A month had passed since Nora and Rafeal's wedding. Since I'd stood in a crowd of pack members and caught Cassian's eyes across the room, for reasons I still couldn't explain. He hadn't reached out since. Probably for the best, given everything else I now had to carry. After the wedding, I couldn't be happier for them. Nora moved out of our home with Fiona as they moved in Rafael. I stayed alone in the house, trying to adjust to this new house. I'd been living with Nora and Fiona for such a long time and now the house felt empty.Cassian on the other hand never reached out again. I couldn't help but think about the times we spent together. Without me realizing this, he had grown on me. Now I subconsciously think about him but I never heard a word from him since after the wedding so I tried my best to push him out of my mind.Life was pretty mundane for me until I received a letter that completely changed things for me. My hands shook as I read the content of the letter an

Third person's POV It was a beautiful sunny day and everyone gathered at the lakeside. The lakeside had been chosen on purpose. Months earlier, Nora and Rafael sat down together to talk about the kind of ceremony they actually wanted. They were finally ready to seal things between them. They didn't want a ceremony that tradition demanded or one that protocol expected. They wanted a ceremony that was good enough for them both. And they both agreed on a quiet one rather than a royal one. After everything they'd survived to reach this moment, a grand royal spectacle held no appeal at all. They wanted something smaller. Something that meant more. So, months later , there was an intimate gathering beside still water at golden hour. The two lovers were surrounded only by the handful of people who had stood by them through every hardship. The guests seated along the simple rows of chairs facing the water numbered barely more than thirty. The local Alpha and his family were among them. A sc

Nora’s POV I managed to drag myself home. By the time I reached my stepfather’s house, the sky had already begun to lighten into a dull gray, and every step toward the front door filled me with dread. My body ached from everything that had happened the night before, from the beating outside the p

Nora’s POVThe sight of those two together burned my eyes, I couldn’t bear to continue looking at them. By the time I shoved through the pack hall doors, I was practically running. Nora's POV"NORA!" I heard a familiar deep voice yell my name and I felt all the hair on my body stand in fear. My heart started to race.
