CARTER’S POV

“Sir, another one.” Max was saying.

“When?” I asked.

“Early hours of the morning. We are preping for burial.”

I waved him away and took a gulp of my drink. This was not making any sense. Months ago it was just a cough going round. Now it seemed half the park was sick with something.

A week ago we had the first death from this stupid illness and now a second. I needed to get to the bottom of this, and fast before it got to me.

“Carter, did you hear? Someone died this morning.” Ciara announced as she walked in.

“I heard.” I did not have time for her right now.

“Well, what are you going to do about it? I’ve told my parents not to leave the house, but I’m scared. You need to figure something out.”

“Don’t you think I know that? I have a lot on my mind without you bickering in my ear. Let me think.” I screamed at her.
