Chapter Fifteen

Clips of Alaska sweeping Ariel off her feet into his arms played repeatedly across news channels. Commenters were debating whether it was the same Alaska, who was known to be brutal, bloodshot and ruthless. Some believes it was a calculated move to change his reputation since the names of the candidates for the election were out. His facial expression was captured as he saying ‘she is his wife’, some even use it as memes. 

From the commenters, Ariel falls in their bad side, people shunning her and scolding her of being after Alaska’s money and wanting to become the governor’s wife. Ariel seems not to have gotten over the experience of the mobs throwing things at her. 

She knew things like that will happen to her sooner or later, associating with Alaska is something dangerous. No one wants to associate with him and now people knows that she is now Alaska’s wife even though it is not what she wanted. 

Alaska looks so furious, it was obvious the reporters and the mobs don’t just come, someone must have put them up to it. Because it was obvious they were there to harass Ariel, the person must have known Alaska can’t harm females so they have set those women up to harass Ariel.

“Find whoever it is who dares to gang up on my wife!” he looks angry. Jefrey looks surprise to hear Alaska calling Ariel his wife now.

“I will get to it” Jefrey replies.

“I suspect it’s from the election board” he adds. Calling him to the election board office was not for something important. Alaska thought Mr. white had call him for something important but when he got to the office, Mr. White just say random things to him until he notice the commotion outside and instantly leaves. 

Alaska wonder if Ariel is okay because she looks so shock cornered by those reporters. 

Ariel sat motionless on the edge of the bed, still having Alaska’s coat on her. Her thoughts run wild, looking back at the scene of how those mobs talked badly about her, she felt angered.

“He took everything from me. My wedding, Jack and because of him everyone sees me as a good for nothing gold-digger”.

She looked at the wall, blinking back her tears. 

“I don’t deserve this! I deserve a happy life but he came to ruin it all. Alaska, you should die” she feels bittered that Alaska barge into her life, destroying her life.

“Monster!” she cries. She wanted to be loved but because of Alaska she is receiving all the hate. 

“If no one is coming to save me, I will safe myself” she looks determine to get revenge on Alaska even though she will end up dying.

The next morning Jefrey invites her to the dinning to eat; she reluctantly goes to the dinner. She believes the only way to end Alaska is to quickly get closer to him. 

Ariel sat at the long dining table; she realizes that a maid has been employed, Alaska sits across sipping coffee like nothing had happened. He looks at Ariel who don’t touch the food set before her by the maid with side eyes.

“That is Sissy, the new maid” Alaska breaks the silent. 

“Call her if you need anything” he adds but Ariel do not response. She looks at the fifty something maid who bows to greet her. She wonders why Alaska will employ a maid, she believes it cannot be for something good. 

“Probably to monitor me” she believes Alaska had no good intention towards her. 

But it was actually because of her, Alaska thinks that she will be needing someone to help her and a female like her to make friends with. Ariel don’t know that Alaska was trying to be considerate towards her which he has not done before.

“You don’t have to say that yesterday” she finally said something, she wants to know why Alaska helped her yesterday. 

“You could I have leave me with them” she felt angry. 

“Really?” his gaze flipped, steady and unreadable. 

“You made it sound like…” she hesitated.

“We are really husband and wife, making people believe you…” she looks to him furious. 

“A good person?” his tone flat. 

“Are we not husband and wife?” he doesn’t look at her.

“What do you mean? You and I know that…” she stops when she realizes Sissy was looking at her. 

“You acted like you cared before everyone” Ariel believes he was just pretending and don’t care about her at all, because if he cares he wouldn’t have forcefully married her.

“What do you think?” Alaska knew she must be trying to vent her anger so he let her. It was the for time someone will dare get angry at him and he will tolerate it. 

“Why? Because of the election?” she believes he can do anything because of the election. 

For a moment, he doesn’t answer. He leans forward towards her, his voice low. Ariel blinks as he leans towards her looking into her eyes. 

“Because whether it’s election or not, you are still mine” he smirks and look away. Ariel’s face fell; her anger seems to go away with his words. 

“Why does it seem we are bickering like lovers?” she sighs and shove the food in her mouth angrily.   

Jefrey appeared in the doorway.

“It’s the campaign manager; people are reacting to what happened yesterday. He wants to know if you are doing a press conference”

“Not yet, I will let him know when it is time” he knew Ariel might not want to do a press conference so he rejects it.

“What of the thing I ask you to check?” he was asking about who instigated the mobs and reporters. 

Jefrey whispers into his ear so that Ariel will not hear him.

“Mr. White”

“That fox!” he looks angry. He looks at her knowing it all because of Mr. white.

When Jefrey left, Ariel stands up from the table, she could feel Alaska’s eyes on her as she walks away. 

“Why is he looking at me like that?”
