As the night wore on, the silence between us thickened, punctuated only by the soft whispers of the wind outside and Jamal, who had almost immediately gone back to sleep, his snoring still loud enough to distract me. It was in this stillness that I realized the true weight of my choices. I could give in to the darkness, allowing it to consume me, or I could rise above my circumstances and create my own path.

Naturally, as the foolish, naive girl I was, I decided to go for the later. I had been pushed around enough by my stepmom, I wasn't going to let this Alpha do it too, scary as he was.
