POPPY’S POV

“Oh my God, I feel like I’m going to be sick.”

The words left my throat as I stared down the balcony. The drop was higher than it had looked from inside.

“I can’t do this. Shit!” I cursed and stepped away from the railing.

Maybe before this, I had thought of myself as someone who didn’t fear heights. Now I wasn’t so sure. If I didn’t land properly, I was sure to break a bone or two.

I realized this at the precise moment I was already committed. My hands gripped the balcony r

POPPY’S POVSo I named five without blinking. He didn’t even look impressed, he just turned back to the window. Moments later, we arrived in front of the company and I sucked in a sharp breath. Even with the limitation of the car window and where we parked, I could tell it was tall. “We’ve arrived.” Cade announced but he didn’t need to. The building was a statement on its own. I got out of the car and stood on the pavement, blinking in awe.The company stood over fifty feet, nearly reaching the sky in all of its glory. Made of nothing but steel and glass, it put every other buildings around it to shame Grey was already moving toward the entrance and I fell into step beside him with my bag over my shoulder. My heels were wobbling slightly, after effects of only wearing flats and converse. I was still not used to wearing heels but I practiced in them twice in my bedroom. So I was fine, I was completely fine. The lobby floor was made of shiny marble, and the room was high-ceilinged

  • Sold to the Ruthless Alpha Billionaire    Chapter 28: Nerves and Jitters

POPPY’S POVThe mirror in my bedroom had never felt so judgmental.I stood in front of it in the grey pencil skirt and white blouse I had picked out the night before.“Nope, I look like a walking corpse.” I muttered to myself and walked to my open closet. With a contemplative stare, I eyed the rows of skirts and shook my head. “I should have picked out more office wear.” My choices were sorely limited. And between the skirt I was wearing and the dark blue one, I decided it was better to pick a color that would even out my skin tone.So I picked the blue skirt. Once I was done exchanging the skirts, I looked at my reflection and nodded.“You can do this, Poppy.” I said but my reflection looked uncertain. "You have handled significantly worse things than an office job."I adjusted the collar of the blouse and arranged my hair. "You survived an auction and a dire wolf. You can handle working in a company."Even though I have zero working experience. Well, if you added being a serving g

  • Sold to the Ruthless Alpha Billionaire    Chapter 27: You’re Hired

POPPY’S POV"Can I ask you something?" I said.Lana looked up from her notes. "You may.""Grey's company." I kept my voice neutral. "Ashford Holdings. What does it actually do? Beyond the pack territory management."Lana eyed me warily but she answered. "Acquisitions primarily. But they handle resource rights and corporate holdings in three major cities. The Alpha runs the business interests parallel to the pack governance." She paused. "It's a significant business. There are branches all over the world and a full corporate staff separate from the pack staff here."It must be a conglomerate then. It made sense, the pack wasn’t feared for ñothing after all. So I asked again. "How many people report directly to him?""At the executive level? Eight, perhaps ten." She set her notes down. "He manages most of the high-level negotiations personally. It's why the Varnmore trip requires him in person. Some contracts won't pass without him in the room."I thought about this while Lana moved o

POPPY’S POVThe forest was dark and I was running. And I didn't even know how long I had been running. But my lungs were burning and my feet were bare against the ground. The trees kept multiplying in front of me no matter how many I passed, and behind me the white wolf was hot on my chase. I looked back. And that was my mistake. You should never look back while you’re being chased by a feral wolf I tripped and I slammed hard on the ground, rolling on the dirt. When I stopped, I scrambled backward on my hands. I looked up but it wasn't a wolf anymore. It was him.Grey was shirtless, and looking down at me with those amber eyes while walking toward me steadily.I held up a hand and screamed, "Stay back. Stay away from me!” "I've caught you," he snarled and then he jumped on me. I screamed. And it was my own voice that woke me up. I sat straight up in bed with my heart going at a fast rate. The morning light was coming through the curtains and when I checked the clock, I saw that

POPPY’S POVDinner was lamb and roasted vegetables and a sauce that smelled expensive, but I had no interest in any of it.I sat in my usual place at the long table and moved things around my plate.I told myself that whatever I was feeling had a logical explanation that had nothing to do with Annalise and the way he treated me after.Grey sat at the head of the table and ate as if I hadn’t just called me a Rosen and threatened to kill me. I found it irritating."There's a deal in Varnmore that needs closing in person," he said, without looking up from his plate. "I'll go after the wedding. And I’ll be gone for weeks, possibly three."I said nothing."The Hartwell contract has been stalled for two months. It needs to be face-to-face." He reached for his glass. "Cade will manage most of it from here. You'll have the full staff."I cut into my steak and the knife went through it with more force than was strictly necessary. The sound it made against the plate was slightly too loud for t

  • Sold to the Ruthless Alpha Billionaire    Chapter 24: No Pity

POPPY'S POVThe window ledge was narrow but manageable and the wooden still didn't like it could hold me but I would take my chances. It was too late to give up now. NO, it’s not! My mind yelled back and once again, I ignored it. I lifted myself into the sill and squeezed through the gap. For a moment, I balanced myself on the creaking sill and I almost cackled in victory. I did it!“Why are you doing this?” Annalise's soft voice filtered in and I turned around, getting a better look at the two of them. Her back was still to me and I wondered how she looked. I made the poor decision of stretching further, trying to get a look.“You know why…”Grey never finished the sentence because the sill finally cracked and I toppled forward. Then I was on the floor, face down. The room was absolutely silent, except for the sound of my own thunderous heartbeat. No. No. NOOOOO!Why is the universe against me? Why did the sill have to crack at that moment? I couldn’t even stand up, the embarr
