My words hung in the air as we stared at each other. Him with his mouth hanging open in shock and me... hurting because I had had no choice but to do this. I couldn't and didn't want to be his plaything, I wanted to be his wife - one he accepted and the mother of his child - also accepted. I wouldn't take anything less than that.

"What?". He rasped.

"You heard me." I said. "I want an annulment. This thing we call marriage is obviously not going to work so why stay in it?".
