LOGINJanelle's POV
My eyes fluttered open slowly. For a moment, everything was a blur and I blinked hard, trying to gather my scattered thoughts. Where was I? Panic rushed through me instantly, and I pushed myself up too fast, my chest tightening as my eyes darted wildly around the unfamiliar room. “Where am I?” My voice came out hoarse and weak. Then suddenly, a warm hand gently touched my arm. I flinched at first, then turned quickly. Zane sat beside the bed, his expression calm, his touch steady in a way that strangely soothed the panic rising inside me. “Hey,” he said softly, his thumb brushing lightly over my arm in quiet reassurance. “You’re safe now. Calm down. No one is going to hurt you here.” The tension in my chest loosened immediately. A shaky breath left my lips as I sank back against the pillows, my eyes stinging unexpectedly. “I thought…” My voice cracked, and I swallowed hard. “I thought I had died in that basement.” I looked at him, my throat tightening with emotion. “Thank you,” I whispered brokenly. “Thank you for saving my life. If you hadn’t come back when you did… if you hadn’t opened that door…I'd have died in there” He lowered his gaze briefly before looking back at me. “I’m sorry,” he said quietly, his voice carrying real weight. “I’m sorry you had to suffer that kind of cruelty in their hands. No woman deserves what they did to you, Janelle.” Something about the way he said my name did strange things to me. Because we were seated so close, I found myself truly looking at him for the first time. And God…He was beautiful. Not in the polished, cold way Kennedy was. Zane had a rougher kind of handsomeness, there was something undeniably masculine about him. The kind of quiet magnetism that could make a woman lose all sense and throw pride to the wind just to be wanted by him. Heat rushed unexpectedly to my cheeks and my gaze dropped at once. What is wrong with you, Janelle? I scolded myself instantly. That is your brother-in-law! Well… ex-husband now, I corrected myself bitterly. At this point, the only thing left was my signature on the divorce papers. The thought left a hollow ache in my chest, but before I could sink into it, Zane’s voice pulled me back. “Do you know how beautiful you are, Janelle?” My head snapped up so quickly our eyes locked. His jaw tightened slightly, anger flashing across his face as he continued. “What I cannot understand is what you ever saw in that brute called Kennedy that made you shrink yourself so small.” His eyes searched mine. “What kind of love makes a woman accept cruelty as though she deserves it?” Shame and pain twisted painfully inside me. A bitter laugh escaped me, wet with tears and venom. “I hate him.” The words came out before I could stop them. “I hate Kennedy James Jones for making me feel small. I hate him for humiliating me. I hate him for touching another woman while I begged him to look at me. I hate him for making me believe I was hard to love.” My fingers tightened violently around the bedsheet. “And most of all…” My voice cracked. “I hate that I loved him enough to destroy myself for him.” Then Zane gave a low, humorless chuckle. “Well,” he said, leaning back slightly, “that is good to know.” I frowned. “Good to know?” His eyes darkened. “It means we have a mutual enemy.” My brows pulled together in confusion as I stared at him. “You hate your brother?” A cold smile touched his lips. “Hate is a nice word for what I feel.” Something dangerous flickered in his eyes. “He is the reason I came back to New York. I came back to take everything from him.” A chill ran down my spine. Zane stood and walked slowly toward the window, sliding one hand into his pocket. “And my revenge on Kennedy…” he said slowly, “starts with you.” My breath caught. I pushed myself up slightly on the bed, confusion flashing across my face. “Me?” My voice came out smaller than I intended. “How?” He stepped closer, just enough that the space between us felt charged. “Because our pain is connected,” he said flatly. “You suffered because of him. I suffered because of him. That makes us aligned whether you like it or not.” Zane’s gaze didn’t waver. “I don’t just want to hurt Kennedy, Janelle,” he continued, voice dropping lower. “I want to ruin him. Strip him of everything he thinks defines him. His name. His power. His control over people. I want him to feel small in a world he believes he owns.” My chest rose and fell unevenly. “He thinks he’s untouchable,” Zane added, a cold edge slipping into his tone. “But men like Kennedy always forget one thing… they are only powerful until someone decides they are not.” I swallowed hard. “I want that too,” I admitted quietly, my voice trembling with emotion. “I want him to suffer. All of them… Brenda, Fiona, Leonard… Everyone who watched me break and call it entertainment.” My fingers curled into the sheets. “I just don’t know how.” Zane studied me for a long moment, then he exhaled slowly. “Marry me, Janelle.”Brenda's POV I was curled up on the sofa with my legs crossed, barely paying attention to the television while I waited for Fiona to bring my food. The pregnancy had made me unusually particular about what I wanted to eat, and after the disaster at breakfast, I had specifically asked for something spicy enough to satisfy my craving without making me sick. When Fiona finally appeared from the kitchen carrying a tray, I immediately sat up. “Finally.” She placed the plate on the coffee table in front of me without saying a word and turned as though she intended to leave. I picked up the spoon, scooped a little food into my mouth and immediately spat it back onto the plate. “What the hell is this?” Fiona spun around. “What did you just do that for?” I stared at her in disbelief. “I should be asking you that. Are you trying to kill me and my baby?” Her eyebrows shot upward. “I made exactly what you asked for.” “I asked for something spicy. I didn't ask you to pour an entire

Brenda's POV I woke up the next morning in an unusually foul mood. The other side of the bed was already empty, which meant Kennedy had left for work without waking me. Normally, I would have been annoyed that he had gone without saying goodbye, but the moment another wave of nausea rolled through my stomach, I forgot about him completely. Pregnancy was becoming increasingly inconvenient and stressful. I pushed myself out of bed, slipped into a silk robe, and made my way downstairs, hoping I could find something that would settle my stomach. Unfortunately, the moment I entered the dining room, the smell of pancakes and oatmeal hit me. My stomach lurched violently. "Take that away!" Everyone at the table froze. I pressed a hand over my mouth and hurried toward the nearest window. "I swear I'm going to throw up. Why does the whole house smell like that?" Kennedy's mother immediately stood up, looking alarmed. "Goodness, Brenda, I'm so sorry. Fiona, take the pancakes away.
Janelle’s POV “What do you mean?” The question had barely left my lips when Zane stepped closer, his hands settling around my waist with a confidence that immediately made my heartbeat quicken. Before I could figure out what he intended to do, he lifted me onto the edge of the wide executive desk, sending a few papers sliding across the polished surface. I stared up at him, suddenly very aware of how close we were. The memory of last night came rushing back without warning, and I hated how easily my body betrayed me whenever I thought about it. I remembered the warmth of his skin beneath my fingers, the sound of his voice whispering my name, and the tenderness that had followed afterward. It was still difficult to believe that I had allowed myself to become that vulnerable with him, especially after spending so long believing intimacy was something I should be ashamed of. Zane leaned closer, his lips brushing against my neck. A shiver travelled through me. “Zane,” I whispe
Zane's POV All through the drive to my company, I couldn't stop thinking about Janelle. Last night had replayed in my mind so many times that I had eventually given up trying to focus on anything else. There was something about the way she had responded to me, the way she had slowly let her guard down despite all the things she'd been through, that had stayed with me long after we'd finally fallen asleep. At twenty-eight, I wasn't exactly inexperienced when it came to women, but Janelle had affected me in a way I hadn't expected. She wasn't simply beautiful; she was exactly my type of woman, with her soft curves, gorgeous face, and the kind of natural sensuality that didn't need to be forced. What surprised me most was how perfectly we matched sexually. She had matched my energy without hesitation, and there was something incredibly addictive about that. I smiled when I remembered how embarrassed she'd been afterward, as though she couldn't believe she'd actually allowed her
Kennedy's POV “Did you just raise your voice at me because of a necklace?” Brenda's voice trembled as she stared at me, her eyes already filling with tears. She looked genuinely offended, as though the fact that I had just lost a billion-dollar contract had somehow become less important than the way I had spoken to her. I dragged a hand down my face, trying to control the frustration burning through me. “Brenda, that isn't what I meant.” “No, don't do that, Kenn.” She shook her head, stepping away from me. “You don't get to speak to me like that and then act like nothing happened. You came home angry, you told me I was insensitive, and now you're blaming me because you lost some contract. Am I the reason you lost the Bellasimo deal?” I stared at her. “Yes.” The moment the word left my mouth, her expression changed. “You're the reason,” I continued, my anger getting the better of me. “I listened to your recording. I trusted what you told me to say, and I repeated it in tha
