Chapter 4

I covered my face, stunned for a second.

Then I looked up, my eyes sweeping across everyone in front of me.

They finally landed on the doctor.

"Heh... heh... my fault... Why did I save her...?"

The doctor suddenly started laughing.

Cold. Wrong.

Danny instantly let go.

The entire maternity ward hallway dropped into darkness.

Countless babies started crying from every direction.

I backed up fast until my spine slammed against the freezing wall.

"It's the boss! Run!"

At Mollie's scream, everyone took off for the stairwell.

Even Danny charged into the delivery room, grabbed Chloe and the baby, and ran.

Adrian scooped Theo into his arms and happened to glance at me.

He frowned.

"Quit acting like you're trying to get yourself killed."

Then he walked off without looking back.

The chat instantly flooded the screen:

[This got crazy fast.]

[Finally dumped that useless woman.]

[Wait... that's the boss? Doesn't look like it.]

I didn't move.

I just watched them panic and run.

The doctor walked toward me one step at a time. She was smiling, but there wasn't a hint of happiness in it.

"Poor thing... You got left behind..."

I calmly wiped the blood from my face.

"I'm not doing this right now."

She froze.

"Oh."

Then she walked right past me and suddenly took off toward the stairwell.

"I SAVED HER... I SAVED HER!"

The chat instantly filled with question marks:

[Wait, what the hell? She left because Sia said that?]

[Hold up... that's not the boss? No way.]

I slowly slid down the wall and closed my eyes.

That familiar feeling wrapped around me again.

Cold. Slick.

Something curled around my forearm, then slowly took shape—a silver-haired man.

The chat instantly went nuclear:

[OH MY GOD! Isn't that Sylar?! The number one boss?!]

[HOW THE HELL DID HE CROSS INTO ANOTHER DUNGEON?!]

[WHY IS SHE STILL STANDING THERE?! RUN!]

Sylar was tall, but right now he leaned against me like he had nowhere else to be.

"Master, you haven't spent time with me in three days..." His low voice sounded almost hurt.

The chat absolutely exploded:

[HOLY CRAP! Did he just call her Master?!]

[She's the boss's MASTER?!]

[No freaking way. Hallucination.]

I sighed and rubbed my temple. "I'm really not in the mood for this right now."

Sylar dropped to one knee, lifted my hand, and pressed a kiss against it.

"Not happy? Want me to kill them for you?"

I shook my head and looked toward the end of the hallway.

Screams echoed through the distance, rising and falling between sharp cracks of breaking bones.

This dungeon was getting dangerously close to falling apart. It had already gone completely off-script.

Sylar was supposed to be the boss of another dungeon.

He shouldn't even be here.

"I missed you." He lowered his head and brushed his hair against my hand. "Abnormal data got injected into me. I lost control and went berserk in another dungeon. If you hadn't kept fixing me, I wouldn't even be able to hold this form."

Ever since I entered the game to fix the bugs, Sylar had stuck close to me.

During the day, he helped clear monsters.

At night, he curled around me as a snake.

The chat had completely lost it:

[Who the hell even is this woman?!]

[Look at the leaderboard! Only five players are left!]

[Wait... that hidden name in first place...]
