Chapter 8 He Comes

Author: J.J. Twelve
"But it’s been 20 minutes! No way that kind of guy exists! No one can resurrect the dead!"

The people in the ER were displeased. Even Caleb Stone could not save the Iron Dragon, and he was hailed as the Best Doctor in Silverton. The people grumbled, asking why they took the Iron Dragon here instead of Providence Hospital. That was the best one around.

Sylvie was facing a lot of pressure. Not even the healers from Imperia Golden Healing Chamber could do anything about it, and they were sent by the Dragon Protectors.

The military was already prepared to give the Iron Dragon a grand funeral, yet Sylvie claimed she knew someone who could raise him from the dead. Of course they were shocked.

A bodyguard came rushing in. "Mr. Norwood is here, Ms. Stanton!"

Everyone turned around, their eyes resting on Evan.

William and the others were bemused.

Even Sylvie was stunned for a moment. 'Is that really him?' she thought.

He was in a suit last time they met, and he sported the most popular haircut of the year. Now, he was in casual wear, and he had a buzzcut. Evan looked more like a man now. Even his gaze was sharper.

Sylvie was still surprised. "I thought you were cutting your family off?"

A smile curled Evan's face. "Thanks to you, I did it. Now, I only live for myself."

"I see." She shared his smile. For some reason, she was really happy to see Evan's change.

Suddenly, an icy voice asked, "You're the guy Ms. Stanton claimed could save the Iron Dragon?"

The woman's voice brought down the room's temperature. Everyone shivered as if they'd landed in winter. A group of people stood up, and their eyes were piercing Evan.

Evan looked at them as well. He was surprised. Unlike the special forces, they were in all black windbreakers. And they shared the same look in their eyes. Together, they were like a looming mountain.

One of them was a woman, the one who spoke. She was cold and clean, yet her face was devoid of any emotion. The gleaming leather suit only served to make her colder, as if she was someone who should only exist in the world of comic books.

She was Aria Drakon, the mentee of Stanton the Iron Dragon and the leader of Dragon’ Breath, one of his seven special forces.

Before Evan could even answer, a mocking voice spoke up. "No one can do that, Ms. Drakon. Dr. Westfield has confirmed that the bullet's shrapnel hit his lungs. No one can save him."

William sneered. "No one actually believes in resurrections. Medicine is more advanced than it ever was, and it hasn’t even touched resurrection. If we miss the time for the funeral just for this lad, there’s going to be a lot to answer to."

Everyone shared the same complaints, and they agreed with William.

"I think Ms. Stanton was scammed."

"Obviously. She's in a hurry to save the Iron Dragon, so she grabbed at any straw she could. And then she got scammed."

"And the guy actually showed up! The gall! He probably has no idea who he just lied to!"

Some of the special forces were already pulling out their guns. The Iron Dragon was the object of their faith and a legend among the military. His death was the nation's loss. He should have a grand funeral, yet they wasted twenty minutes just for this charlatan.

Even Aria's men looked angry. Their eyes turned icy.

Sylvie panicked. She knew how absurd she sounded, since resurrection was a miracle medicine never managed to perform. But now all her hopes were on Evan. He healed her, and she wanted to believe he could do the same for her grandfather.

"Wait! I would never joke about Grandpa's condition! He does know what he's doing! He healed me!"

The announcement came as a bombshell.

Aria's men were stunned, and William was shocked. Everyone in this room knew Sylvie was hit by frost poison and would die within the year.

They had intended to use this opportunity to keep Evan with them forever, yet Zeke had ruined everything. The result was a complete uproar throughout Silverton's upper circle.Whether it was the fact that Hazel's former love had barged into the Solberg family's banquet, or that Hazel had run after Zeke in front of everyone without a thought for her husband's dignity, the Solbergs had been thoroughly humiliated. The irony was crushing. Now the whole circle was gossiping about Hazel, calling her shameless and disloyal.Even Stefan's reputation had begun to suffer. As the saying went—a

"Exactly. As he watched the entire scene unfold, a cold smile slowly appeared on his lips.In that earlier situation, he had truly been cornered, but who'd have thought Zeke would show up and solve the problem for him?Still, Evan could not help muttering under his breath, "Some old habits really never change…"Cynthia happened to hear the remark. Her legs gave out instantly. She dropped to the floor with a thud, staring at Evan as her voice shook. "E-Evan… let me explain. Hazel, she—""No need." Evan simply grinned and looked at Stefan and Cynthia

"Stop!"The furious shout cracked through the room like a bolt of thunder, freezing everyone where they stood.Even Hazel instinctively turned around with the rest of the crowd. The man himself had not appeared yet, but his voice had already reached them.Anya finally let out a long breath. He had made it in time. From her point of view, she absolutely did not want Hazel to have a baby with Evan—because he did not deserve that.Cain had already spoken. Would Evan even dare refuse now?If the outcome was already certain, then paying such a huge price for it simply wasn't worth it.But Stefan and Cynthia had invited members of both the Golden family and the Leighton family. It would have been inappropriate for them to step in directly, so they had no choice but to let Zeke stop everything.Anya had thought he wouldn't make it, yet somehow, he arrived at the very last moment. With a loud bang, the banquet hall doors were shoved open.A figure stormed in, burning with fury."Ze

Yet Hazel was preparing to have a baby with another man.Zeke snapped.Rage nearly swallowed him whole.Although he believed Hazel was only doing this to gain better control over Evan so she could continue using him as a source of blood, the price was far too high.Zeke didn't even bother grabbing the medicine anymore. He stormed out in fury, jumped into his car, and sped off."Evan, I'm not dead yet," he muttered through clenched teeth. "You think you can climb your way up and have a child with Hazel? Did you even ask for my permission?"His face twisted with barely contained rage.He slammed the accelerator to the floor. The engine roared like a wild beast as the car shot forward, overtaking one vehicle after another. At that moment, the violent fury in Zeke's heart erupted completely. In his mind, Evan had always been nothing more than a substitute.Everything Evan had enjoyed over the past three years had originally belonged to him, and it should all be taken back.He wa

Roxanne was stunned.Hazel was just as shaken. The banquet had been arranged with such solemn grandeur that they had both assumed Evan was about to apologize.Instead, Stefan had publicly announced that Hazel and Evan were preparing to have a baby. The shock was overwhelming. What made it even more unbelievable was that Roxanne and Hazel spent time together almost every day, yet she had never heard a word about this.Hazel had never mentioned it once.Roxanne suddenly felt her throat go dry. Her head spun, and when she looked at Hazel, her vision almost seemed to blur."Hazel, this isn't true, is it? You and Evan are actually trying for a baby?"She simply couldn't believe it. She pressed the question again, even her tone turning a little sharp."I… I…"But Hazel didn't deny it right away.Instead, she looked flustered and hesitant. She even avoided Roxanne’s eyes, guilt written all over her face. That alone was enough to show that something was wrong.Hazel felt as if sh
