Chapter 8 He Comes

Author: J.J. Twelve
"But it’s been 20 minutes! No way that kind of guy exists! No one can resurrect the dead!"

The people in the ER were displeased. Even Caleb Stone could not save the Iron Dragon, and he was hailed as the Best Doctor in Silverton. The people grumbled, asking why they took the Iron Dragon here instead of Providence Hospital. That was the best one around.

Sylvie was facing a lot of pressure. Not even the healers from Imperia Golden Healing Chamber could do anything about it, and they were sent by the Dragon Protectors.

The military was already prepared to give the Iron Dragon a grand funeral, yet Sylvie claimed she knew someone who could raise him from the dead. Of course they were shocked.

A bodyguard came rushing in. "Mr. Norwood is here, Ms. Stanton!"

Everyone turned around, their eyes resting on Evan.

William and the others were bemused.

Even Sylvie was stunned for a moment. 'Is that really him?' she thought.

He was in a suit last time they met, and he sported the most popular haircut of the year. Now, he was in casual wear, and he had a buzzcut. Evan looked more like a man now. Even his gaze was sharper.

Sylvie was still surprised. "I thought you were cutting your family off?"

A smile curled Evan's face. "Thanks to you, I did it. Now, I only live for myself."

"I see." She shared his smile. For some reason, she was really happy to see Evan's change.

Suddenly, an icy voice asked, "You're the guy Ms. Stanton claimed could save the Iron Dragon?"

The woman's voice brought down the room's temperature. Everyone shivered as if they'd landed in winter. A group of people stood up, and their eyes were piercing Evan.

Evan looked at them as well. He was surprised. Unlike the special forces, they were in all black windbreakers. And they shared the same look in their eyes. Together, they were like a looming mountain.

One of them was a woman, the one who spoke. She was cold and clean, yet her face was devoid of any emotion. The gleaming leather suit only served to make her colder, as if she was someone who should only exist in the world of comic books.

She was Aria Drakon, the mentee of Stanton the Iron Dragon and the leader of Dragon’ Breath, one of his seven special forces.

Before Evan could even answer, a mocking voice spoke up. "No one can do that, Ms. Drakon. Dr. Westfield has confirmed that the bullet's shrapnel hit his lungs. No one can save him."

William sneered. "No one actually believes in resurrections. Medicine is more advanced than it ever was, and it hasn’t even touched resurrection. If we miss the time for the funeral just for this lad, there’s going to be a lot to answer to."

Everyone shared the same complaints, and they agreed with William.

"I think Ms. Stanton was scammed."

"Obviously. She's in a hurry to save the Iron Dragon, so she grabbed at any straw she could. And then she got scammed."

"And the guy actually showed up! The gall! He probably has no idea who he just lied to!"

Some of the special forces were already pulling out their guns. The Iron Dragon was the object of their faith and a legend among the military. His death was the nation's loss. He should have a grand funeral, yet they wasted twenty minutes just for this charlatan.

Even Aria's men looked angry. Their eyes turned icy.

Sylvie panicked. She knew how absurd she sounded, since resurrection was a miracle medicine never managed to perform. But now all her hopes were on Evan. He healed her, and she wanted to believe he could do the same for her grandfather.

"Wait! I would never joke about Grandpa's condition! He does know what he's doing! He healed me!"

The announcement came as a bombshell.

Aria's men were stunned, and William was shocked. Everyone in this room knew Sylvie was hit by frost poison and would die within the year.

Seeing how decisively he moved, Rosa hurriedly tried to stop him.Even though Hazel had clearly said that the divorce registration had to be signed, Rosa still wanted to give Evan a chance—to back out before the pen hit the paper. That way, everyone could still walk away happy."Will you stop dragging this out?" Evan urged impatiently. "I've got things to do later!""Mr. Solberg—"Evan snapped. "Do you not understand plain English? First, you told me to sign; now, you're telling me to think it over. What exactly do you want?"Rosa was startled into silence. The courthouse clerk glanced at Evan and Rosa and reminded them, "Sir, Miss, are you certain you want to sign the divorce registration? Once you sign, it becomes legally effective.""Yes," Evan replied curtly. With no other choice, Rosa handed over Hazel's identification documents. The clerk looked at the computer screen, then at Evan, and shook his head. "That's not right…""What's not right?" Rosa asked in surprise."The

It was far too abnormal. The entire Silverton elite circle knew that Evan couldn't live without the three heiresses. It was also common knowledge that he was nothing more than Zeke's substitute. In that case, why would Evan agree so readily?'Ms. Solberg is clearly serious this time. Once the divorce registration is signed, it will carry legal force…'Yet Evan had only paused for a token moment before agreeing. It completely shattered Rosa's expectations. In her mind, Evan should have reacted as if facing a catastrophe—emotional, agitated, demanding to know why. How could he be so calm, so… unbothered? Almost as if he genuinely wanted a divorce.Meeting Rosa's puzzled, conflicted, and faintly anxious gaze, Evan smiled lightly. "Why wouldn't I agree? Isn't this what Hazel wants? I'm just giving her what she asked for. She and her Zeke must've been having a great time lately, right? Once she divorces me, is she planning to marry Zeke next?"Every word Evan spoke felt barbed. Even Ro

'If Evan finds out about this, he might even applaud.'Evan had brought up divorce long ago. Stefan and Cynthia had thought there might still be room to turn things around—but now their daughter was making it real. Neither of them could accept it."Hazel, listen to me," Cynthia pleaded softly. "This marriage can't end. Go talk things through properly with Evan. Family harmony matters more than anything…"But Hazel had already made up her mind. She was determined to give Evan a proper warning. "Enough, Mom. I promise you, this divorce won't go through. Once Evan signs and regrets it, he'll withdraw the application…""Promise, your foot!" Stefan finally snapped, unable to hold back. "How are you so sure that Evan will regret it and withdraw the application? You can forget about getting his ID card! And you're not going anywhere—stay home!""Dad! You have no idea how rebellious Evan's been lately! He even started following me!" Hazel's temper flared as well, seeing that Stefan wouldn

'Gasp!'The villa instantly fell into a dead hush. No one spoke. Everyone was too stunned to react, but once they recovered, Roxanne and Anya fired off questions one after another."Hazel, are you serious?""You're really going to divorce Evan? I thought you were just saying it in anger…"Even Zeke looked taken aback, coughing lightly as he spoke in a show of concern. "Hazel, don't divorce Evan because of me. Even if it's just for show, you shouldn't. I may not be the one who married you, but Evan has still put in years of effort. What you're doing will hurt him badly…""And whose fault is it that he's been so disobedient lately—and even hit Zeke!" Hazel's eyes flashed coldly. "When I first mentioned the cooling-off period, it was just to make him understand his place. But what did he do instead? Just because he donated blood to Zeke, he started pushing his luck. Since that's the case, I'll make it real. I'll have him sign the divorce registration and see if he panics then."Roxa

  • Sorry, Too Late   Chapter 26 The Calm Before the Divorce

Evan let out a cold laugh. Hazel clearly still had no idea that he had already severed ties with her family.'Did her parents not tell her?'Whatever the reason, Evan didn't bother dwelling on it. Whether she knew or not didn't matter anymore. All that remained was the one-month cooling-off period. Once it passed, the divorce would be final—for real this time.…Inside Villa No. 9, the three heiresses had gathered to discuss what to do about Evan."Evan's really lost his sense of self these past couple of days. He was already acting strange at the hospital, and it's only gotten worse since then."To them, everything Evan had done—his sudden change in demeanor, moving out of the Solberg Residence, following them around, turning cold and hostile, even losing control and hitting Zeke—was nothing more than a display of dissatisfaction aimed at them. And it was getting on their nerves.Hazel said nothing. She simply picked up her phone and called her mother, Cynthia. The moment the c

From her bloodshot eyes, Evan saw fury, madness, and something else tangled deep beneath it. Even so, he spoke softly. "It can all be repaid. Every last bit of it.""What?" Anya froze. The three heiresses all turned to look at Evan at once, their hearts racing.Evan lifted his head and smiled at them as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "Ms. Leighton, I owe you a priceless life-saving drug. I'll pay it back. And Ms. Golden, Mr. Wells slapped your father thrice publicly. I'll make Mr. Wells return every single slap."Leighton Pharmaceuticals was a pharmaceutical giant, widely renowned throughout Silverton.Roxanne had once been the obvious choice to become Leighton Pharmaceuticals' heir apparent. But to save Evan, she had gone against her family's wishes and acted on her own, stealing the clan's treasured life-saving drug from the family vault and forcing it down Evan's throat when he was on the brink of death. Evan survived, but the price she paid was severe.Roxa
