I reached my office, Alex and Sean trailing behind me. The moment they closed the door, I spun around, my frustration burning in my eyes as I glared at them. The weight of the recent surprise they had orchestrated was pressing on me, and I couldn’t hold back. “You could have warned me! How did you expect me to control Xyler? I nearly lost it right in front of humans.” I rubbed my forehead with my index finger and thumb, slumping in my chair.

Sean raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, his voice softening, “I’m sorry, man. It was meant to be a surprise. I know you’ve been going through a lot.” His eyes grew soft with the recall of the hardship I have been living through these past few days.

I let out a sigh, my shoulders sagging as the tension began to ebb away. “It’s fine. At least she’ll be closer now. That is the only thing keeping my jackass of a wolf at bay.”
