I was worried about Iris. She seemed to retreat more and more into herself with every day that passed.

It had been at least three days since we ran into Rosa. Since then, Iris had grown more quiet, weaker, and more angry.

We left the Humvee behind two days ago. I'd hidden it as best I could in a dense part of the forest, and was fairly certain that it would remain there, unless someone who was skilled enough to steal it without the keys came along.

The trail Saoirse was leading us on was definitely not a normal trail. Anyone could see that it had been tampered with using magic. Sometimes, it felt like we were walking through a hot, humid jungle, and sometimes it felt like we were walking through a scorching desert with the driest air possible.

I was also pretty sure that we'd gone in a circle at least three times, but Saoirse assured me she knew what she was doing. That was the only way to get to where we needed to go.

Highly inefficient.

How did the witches survive in their set

"Wait!" I yelled as Cassian disappeared from sight without a backward glance. He was going back the way we'd come. Towards the witches. Towards certain death. I couldn't let that happen. I rushed after him, only to be gently pulled back by Barry. I snarled at Barry and struggled out of his hold. He simply held me again. "Let me go!" I ordered. He shook his head. "Sorry, Luna. But I have to follow the Alpha's orders." I yanked my hand away. Or tried to. Barry wasn't letting go this time, and I was too fucking weak to do anything. "We have to keep moving," Saoirse said urgently. "They'll catch up to us soon." "I'm not leaving without Cassian!"Saoirse looked resolute. "He knows what he's doing, and he asked us not to let you go after him. He'll find us. Let's go.""No!" "Keep your voice down!" She hissed. "And if you won't come, Barry isn't above carrying you! You'll get us caught if you keep this up." "But Cassian—""Is a grown man who told you he'll be fine. Just trust him,

I'd always been a light sleeper, but that night, I slept with one eye cracked open in case the witches tried to use one of their cloaking spells to get past me. Who knows what they would do? They could try to take Iris away from me, or worse. I could still remember the panic I felt when I saw those men try to pull Iris away from me. I would have done worse to them than just toss them aside if I hadn't been making a conscious decision to not hurt them. Our packs had been taken and searched, but we were not searched. A mistake on their part since Iris's cold iron dagger was now in my hand, unsheathed and ready to end the life of the first person to try something stupid. If I hadn't been half awake already, I would have missed the door opening completely silently. There was no one there, and no sound. Which meant someone was there, with a cloaking spell. And they were coming right for Iris and I. I clutched the dagger tightly, ready to strike out, when Saoirse suddenly materializ

CASSIANIris and I were cuddled up on the tiny bed that night when Saoirse arrived. She knocked once on the door, then unlocked it and stepped inside hurriedly, as if she was sneaking in. I sat up, waking Iris up in the process. Her eyes widened when she saw Saoirse, and she staggered out of bed. "You're alright!" To my surprise, Saoirse let Iris hug her. I thought she was still pissed off about the incident with Rosa. "I'm alright," Saoirse repeated. "They told me about the prophecy I gave." "They told you?" Iris asked, sounding incredulous. "You didn't remember?" Saoirse shook her head. "I don't remember anything about it. It's the first time it's ever happened to me. Normally, I had visions. But this..." "What was that? Were you...possessed or something?" Saoirse nodded. "Or something. My grandmother said it was the spirits of some of the greatest seers. Sometimes, when they want to pass an important message, they do it through a seer, like me." "It looked more like they

Cassian and I were silent as we were both led to the room we would be staying in. After what happened with Saoirse at the town hall, no one would give us any answers. They'd just herded us away while the Coven Master ordered that Saoirse be carried out. I was worried, to say the least. The room we got to was small, with dirt walls, and a single bed in the corner. Cassian raised an eyebrow as he looked around. The witches who escorted us here stopped at the door. One of them glared at us. "Do not try to leave. The consequences will be severe." They shut the door behind them, and we heard the lock click. As if that could truly hold us in."Well," I said. "This is cozy." It was a little more than a cell. But at least it had a bed with sheets. Cassian was quiet. He walked to the window and looked outside. I collapsed on the bed, groaning. "What do you think will happen to Saoirse and Barry," I asked softly. "They'll be fine. It's us we should be worried about. The whole bizarr

The hall was chaos, meanwhile, the only thing I could think of was "what the hell just happened?" I stared at Cassian, who was staring at me like he also didn't know what the heck was going on. The witches were rallying, shouting for revenge. Saoirse was just as dumbfounded as we were. Did the Coven Master just... What? She didn't mean that, did she? That Cassian — no, Wrath — was the reason the witches had to go into hiding? He caused the ban on sorcery? But how?I tried to speak up, and so did Saoirse. No one listened to us."Wait!" I shouted. "Hear us out. We don't know what you're talking about. Cassian isn't like that!""Coven Master, please calm them down," Saoirse begged. "Cassian would never do something like that." Cassian wouldn't, but Wrath absolutely would. They didn't need to know that though. "Throw him in the cells!" Someone from the crowd yelled. "Yeah!" Came the reply. Soon, they had all picked up the chant. "Cells! Cells! Cells!" But no one actually did any

I definitely did not feel good about going to meet this "Coven Master". It was obvious he was the real power here. What if he decided not to hear us out at all and just ordered us to be tossed out of the settlement? Or worse...Also, when I first arrived at Silver Creek, I thought the stares I'd been getting were a lot. They were nothing compared to the stares we were getting now. The settlement looked very similar to a small pack. Houses lined the street, and as we walked past, people stopped what they were doing to stare. It was like they already knew, without anyone having to tell them, that we were wolves. How could they tell? It also felt like the looks I was getting were more intense than the others. I realized it was probably because Cassian was carrying me like I was an invalid. My fave reddened. "Put me down," I said lowly. "What?" Cassian gave me an incredulous look. "You can't walk." "I can manage," I hissed. "Put me down." Saying no more, he set me on my feet, and
