Chapter 7

Author: Shirley Snow
Josie chose to spend the next few days at home, which was something she had never done before. She seemed to have noticed that Tyler was not in a good mood, and for once, she made Shane apologize to Tyler.

Shane stood in front of Tyler and said insincerely, "I'm sorry, Tyler. It was rash of me that day."

Tyler glanced at him coldly and did not even bother to say anything. He turned to return to his room and slammed the door hard behind him.

Shane trembled with fear and quickly hid behind Josie. His voice was trembling when he asked, "He wouldn't hit me, would he, Josie?"

She comforted Shane by patting his back. "No one will bully you with me around."

Loud noises were suddenly heard in Tyler's room. It sounded like things were being moved around. Josie frowned and was about to knock on the door when it was suddenly pulled open.

Tyler appeared with a huge box. He did not even look at her as he headed straight to the bin in the room. There was a loud clatter as he poured everything into the bin. Josie's eyes widened. Everything in the box had something to do with her. They were things that Tyler had painstakingly collected over the years.

They included handwritten notes, cups she had drunk from, and the only thing she had ever given Tyler—a rosary to wear around the wrist, which Tyler had to pester her to get. They were now all thrown away like garbage.

"What do you mean by this?" she asked coldly.

Tyler clapped the dirt off his hands and replied nonchalantly, "Nothing. I just don't want them anymore."

He no longer wanted anything that belonged to Josie, and he no longer wanted her too.

When Tyler was done, he turned to leave without a second glance at her.

Shane noticed the look on Josie's face when Tyler threw her things away, and it made him jealous. He asked on purpose, "Josie, maybe you should talk to Tyler about what happened and try to cheer him up."

Josie was silent for a long time before replying, "That's not necessary. He'll eventually work things out himself and take all of these back."

Just like how Tyler courted and loved her relentlessly over the past six years.

Tyler almost laughed when he heard what she said from the other side of the room, but she was wrong. This time, Josie was totally wrong about this!

That night, Josie wanted to take Tyler and Shane to a charity dinner. Tyler refused to go, but Josie said, "Your buddies would be there too. You've locked yourself at home long enough. Don't you want to see them?"

Tyler was silent for a long time before finally deciding to change his clothes. Too many depressing things had been happening to him, and he had to have a drink with someone.

He ignored Josie and Shane during the journey despite their attempts at small talk, and he closed his eyes for a short rest in the car.

Halfway on the road to dinner, there was a loud crash. Blinding lights shot out at them, and Tyler only managed to glimpse a car losing control and crashing toward them. The next second, the world whirled around him.

When Tyler woke up, he caught a whiff of cold rust in the air. He opened his eyes with difficulty and realized he and Shane were tied to a chair in an abandoned warehouse. Their hands were tied behind them, and bombs were attached to their chests!

He vaguely remembered a man getting out of another car that crashed into them before he passed out. It was the nemesis of Sinclair Industries, John Palmer. Was he seeking revenge against the Sinclairs by kidnapping him and Shane?

Shane kept yelling shrilly, "Is there anyone out there? Help! Save me! I don't want to die!"

There were only a few minutes left ticking on the bomb, and Tyler forced himself to calm down as he started to remove it. However, the noise Shane was making made it hard for him to focus, and Tyler said coldly, "Stop crying. If you don't want to die, hurry up and remove the bomb."

Shane cried even harder. "Why are you yelling at me? I have no idea how to remove this thing. Where are you, Josie? I'm so scared, Josie…"

The warehouse doors were suddenly kicked open, and Josie rushed in.

The entire place was silent.Josie stood at the edge of light and shadow, coffee stains from the flight still on the hem of her dress. Her usually elaborately styled long hair hung messily over her forehead."Ms. Sinclair, are you trying to steal my groom?" Elena narrowed her eyes.Josie ignored her, walked straight to Tyler, and knelt. Her voice was so hoarse it was almost inaudible. "I know I deserve to die for my sins, but please just give me one more look..."The guests were in an uproar. The head of the Sinclairs of Capnorth, who was a cold and untouchable saint, was now kneeling perfectly upright.Tyler took a step back. "Josie, don't do this.""I wrote 300 love letters, from the time we first met until we married and then..." Her voice grew even more hoarse. "The day I fell in love with you but didn't dare to admit it."She trembled as she opened the box, and white letters fluttered like butterflies.Tyler remained unmoved, not even glancing at them. Shane stood still. "What?" "Now that you've married into that family, just live with it." Josie's tone was calm. Then she looked up at the woman in front of her. "Don't hit him. You know the consequences." The woman nodded repeatedly and stepped forward, grabbing Shane's wrist. "Honey, go back. I'll take good care of you." Even if she could not hit him, she still had many methods to torment him. Moreover, she was ugly, fat, and old, while he was a strong and young man full of vitality. Shane struggled frantically. "Josie! How could you treat me like this? You said you would always protect me! You said I mattered the most to you! Josie... I was wrong... Josie..."His hysterical cries faded away, and Josie walked into the study without looking back.In the family's chapel, she personally lit everything related to Shane—photos, gifts, the paintings he drew when he was young… The flames consumed the past, and the ashes floated in the air. From now on, only Tyler's presence wou

Elena stirred the coffee slowly in the coffee shop.Josie's first words made her hand pause. "Give Tyler back to me. I'll trade anything for him."Elena raised an eyebrow. "Anything?"Josie's voice was hoarse. "Yes. Sinclair Industries' shares, land in Capnorth, my assets overseas… Even..." She closed her eyes for a moment. "I could bring Shane back and have him personally apologize to Tyler."Elena suddenly smiled. She put down the coffee cup as a hint of mockery flashed in her azure eyes. "Josie, don't you get it yet? Tyler isn't a commodity. He's a human being with flesh and blood that feels pain and cries. You once had all his genuine affection, but you crushed it with your own hands."Elena stood up and looked condescendingly at her. "Now, it's my turn to love him.""As for you..." She chuckled softly. "Just spend the rest of your life with your guilt."Josie sat still, watching Elena's retreating figure. Suddenly, she recalled something from many years ago.Tyler had done

The crying suddenly stopped. Shane's voice was trembling as he asked shrilly in disbelief, "What do you mean, Josie?"Josie closed her eyes. She sounded tired. "I spoiled you too much before. Now that you've married into that family, try to live a good life. If you really can't take it, tell Mom and Dad about it. I don't have the time to take care of this."Josie laughed bitterly. "Besides, if I took care of this, Tyler would never forgive me."Shane's breathing quickened, and he started screaming hysterically, "Have you really fallen for Tyler Ford?!"Josie was silent for a while before replying softly, "Yes."Her answer was the last straw for Shane. "Impossible!" Shane's scream could shatter an eardrum. "I'm the one you love! Why would you love him?! You're lying! You must be lying to me!"Shane kept trying to convince himself and Josie otherwise by talking about their childhood, how she indulged him, and the moments of sexual tension between them.Josie remained silent thro

The smell of disinfectant was so strong that it hurt the nostrils.Josie opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was the white ceiling. She tried moving her finger, and it felt like her skeleton had been taken apart and reassembled. It was painful."Awake?" Zoey was sitting by her bed and peeling the skin of an apple slowly with a knife. The blade reflected the cold light in her eyes. "You're pretty lucky to come out of this alive."Josie's throat felt scratchy. "Where's Tyler?""He's taking care of Elena next door." Zoey smiled maliciously. "I started the fire and drugged you and Elena, making you weak in the limbs so that you couldn't run. The first person Tyler saved was Elena."The apple skin broke, and Zoey flung it into the bin."You should see how anxious he was. He stood vigil by Elena the entire night and was nearly wailing."Zoey's words were like a blunt knife cutting into Josie's heart slowly. She was reminded of the cold, distant look in Tyler's eyes, and how h

Josie was standing in front of the window when someone knocked on the door. The cigarette between her fingers was almost completely burned up. She opened the door to see Zoey leaning against the door with a glass of amber-colored whiskey in her hand."I heard you punched Elena." Zoey raised an eyebrow and passed Josie the glass.Josie did not enjoy drinking, and she always drank tea instead, but in that moment, she needed something to numb the waves of emotion raging inside her. She took the glass from Zoey and finished it in one gulp. The burning feeling in her throat felt just like the suffocating feeling she had when she saw Tyler and Elena entangled in a passionate embrace."She was in bed with Tyler." Josie's voice was terribly hoarse. "I couldn't stand to see it.""Tyler?" Zoey suddenly laughed, but the look in her eyes was icy. "How interesting. It's been six years, and this is the first time I've heard you say my little brother's name so tenderly."It could be the effects
