Chapter 35: 'If a Beta was enough, why would need an Alpha?'

I realised my stupidity. I shook my head and whispered apologetically, “No. I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking.”

He pulled back and brushed through his hair in extreme frustration. “You insulted me, Rose.”

I bolted to a stand and cried out in remorse, “I’m sorry, Rum! I really am!”

He swung around. And in one stride, he arrived before me and wrapped his arms around me, crashing me against his firm muscular chest, and then squeezed me tight.

I sniffed back my tears. Why am I tearing up again? Am I relieved that Rum won’t be going anywhere? Or maybe I’m glad of my stupidity, and Rum is stronger than I think.

“You scared the hell out of me,” he whispered.

It was then I felt the soft thudding of his rapid heartbeat against my chest. And more tears streamed down silently. “I’m really sorry.”

“Don’t you ever try that shit again,” he ordered fiercely. “You hear me?”
