Naomi’s Pov

We didn’t leave like people going to war.

No sirens. No rush. No speeches.

Two cars. Separate routes. Windows down just enough to hear the city breathe.

Cassian drove. He always did when things mattered. He said it was a habit, but I knew better. It was controlled. It was focused. It was him putting himself between danger and everyone else without saying it out loud.

The city looked normal. People walking. Shops opening. A man arguing with his phone at a bus stop. I watched it all slide past the windshield and felt the familiar disconnect settle in. Like we were moving through a different layer of the same world.

Rubio’s voice crackled through the comm. “No tails so far. Traffic’s boring.”

Mara replied from the second car. “I don’t trust boring.”

Cassian didn’t respond. His hands stayed steady on the wheel. His jaw was tight, but not clenched. This was him locked in. Calm. Dangerous.

I broke the silence. “How long has this warehouse been active?”

Naomi’s Pov The room was bigger than I expected. Not grand. Just wide. Long table. Rows of chairs behind it. Cameras mounted high enough to feel distant but close enough to remind you that nothing said here would stay contained. I walked in without stopping. Cassian wasn’t beside me. That was intentional. He sat near the back with Rubio and Mara, visible but not at the center. Present without claiming space. That mattered. The panel didn’t look like villains. That was the hardest part. They looked like people who had learned how to stay clean while standing near dirty things. Neutral suits. Neutral expressions. Neutral voices. One of them cleared his throat. “Thank you for coming, Naomi.” I didn’t respond to the gratitude. “You understand this session is on record,” another said. “Yes.” “And that you may stop at any time.” “I won’t,” I replied. That drew a look between them. Not concerned. Calculation. They began carefully. Background questions. Dates. Confirmations. Thi

Naomi’s Pov The date locked in faster than I expected. Three days. That’s how long they gave themselves before putting me in front of a room full of people who had spent years avoiding responsibility. Three days to prepare questions that would look neutral and feel sharp. Three days for others to decide how exposed they were willing to be. Rubio read the confirmation twice. “They’re moving quickly.” “They’re scared,” Mara said. Cassian didn’t comment. He stood near the window, phone pressed to his ear, listening more than speaking. When he finally ended the call, his expression had shifted into something harder. “They’re circling,” he said. “Who?” I asked. “Everyone,” he replied. “People who’ve stayed quiet because it was convenient. People who thought Eldon was the only problem.” Rubio snorted. “They hate when the problem talks back.” Cassian turned to me. “They’re not just watching you.” I already knew the answer, but I asked anyway. “They’re watching you too.” “Yes.

Naomi’s Pov The first thing I noticed was how quiet it got. Not peaceful, quiet. Not calm. The kind of quiet that feels wrong because it doesn’t last. Like something is holding its breath before it breaks. We were still at the secondary location. Screens on. Lights low. No one talked unless it mattered. Cassian stood near the center table, hands braced on the edge, eyes fixed on a map that hadn’t changed in hours. Rubio sat on the floor with his back against the wall, phone in hand, scrolling through feeds we weren’t supposed to have access to. Mara paced slowly, stopping every few steps to check a window or a door. I stayed seated. I didn’t feel weak. I felt alert. Like my body understood before my mind did that something was about to tip. The phone rang. Not one of ours. Cassian answered immediately. He didn’t speak. He just listened. I watched his face. I’d learned how to read it by now. There was no surprise. No confusion. Just a shift. Like something had finally aligned

Naomi’s Pov; We didn’t speak until we were back in the car. Cassian drove. I watched the streetlights slide past the window. The restaurant disappeared behind us like it had never mattered, but my body knew better. My shoulders still felt tight. My hands hadn’t stopped shaking yet. “You did well,” Cassian said finally. I didn’t answer right away. “He wasn’t afraid.” “No,” Cassian said. “But he was rattled.” “That’s different,” I said. “Yes,” Cassian agreed. “And more useful.” The radio crackled. Rubio’s voice came through. “We’ve got movement.” Cassian’s posture shifted instantly. “Talk to me.” “Eldon didn’t go back to his usual spots,” Rubio said. “He changed vehicles twice. Sent three calls. One of them hit an old contact we’ve been monitoring.” Mara cut in. “That contact just went dark.” My stomach tightened. “That was fast.” Cassian nodded. “He’s trying to regain control.” “He’s not going to sit and wait,” Rubio said. “He’s moving pieces.” “Yes,” Cassian said.

Naomi’s Pov The restaurant was already half full when I arrived. That was intentional. The dinner crowd started early. Couples talking too loudly. A few people were drinking before they ate. Enough noise to hide tension, not enough to hide movement. I came in alone. No escort. No visible protection. Just a simple jacket, hair tied back, phone in my pocket like I belonged there. I didn’t scan the room right away. That would’ve been obvious. Instead, I walked to the hostess stand, gave the name Cassian had arranged, and waited while she checked the list. I felt him before I saw him. Eldon sat near the windows, back straight, hands folded on the table like he was waiting for a business meeting. No weapon in sight. No visible security. He wanted this to look clean. He wanted control. The hostess smiled. “Right this way.” I followed her without hesitation. Cassian had arrived earlier. I knew that. I didn’t look for him. I trusted the plan. I trusted that if something went wron

Naomi’s Pov; No one slept properly. We pretended to rest. We sat down. We closed our eyes. But the building stayed awake with us. Footsteps echoed softly through the halls. Doors opened and closed. Radios hissed low, then went quiet again. The meeting was set for the next night. Twenty-four hours sounds like time. It isn’t. Not when every second feels like it’s leaning forward. Cassian spent the morning locked into logistics. Routes. Entry points. Exit points. Alternate exits. Second alternates. People in placeplaces would never be seen unless everything went wrong. Rubio handled communication. He spoke less than usual. That meant he was serious. Mara moved through the building like a ghost, checking weapons, checking people, checking me. She never said much, but I saw the looks she gave Cassian when she thought I wasn’t watching. Concern. Calculation. Trust. I stayed out of the way until Cassian came looking for me. He found me in the small room near the b
