I had stepped out to deliver some files downstairs when Justin arrived at the company. I had seen him walk into the elevator without him seeing me.
Shortly after, I went back up to my desk. From the glass wall demarcating us, I could see him occupied with work. I didn’t want to make this any awkward than it already was, so I went in to see him.
He looked up the moment I walked in. “Olivia.” He called softly, the way he pronounced my name sent thrills of excitement through me.
“Hi… Sir.” I muttered awkwardly, a bit shy. “Um… I have delivered the packages to the different levels, I have also succeeded in fixing a new date for the failed meeting.” I announced.
He nodded. “Thank you Olivia.”
I immediately noticed the difference in his expression; the usual glee was not there, his eyes were unreadable, cold. Was it about last night?
“Um… Olivia, we need to talk.” He began, and I immediately knew where this conversation was going.
My heart began to race. What was he going to say?
“About last night…”
My chest tightened.
He hesitated, then took an obvious breath. “Listen, last night was a moment of vulnerability, I understand that something happened between us, but it was a mistake and it cannot happen again.”
My face immediately dropped in disappointment, sadness creeping in. my feelings were hurt and I could feel the tears forming in my eyes, but not today… I had cried a lot yesterday, I am a grown woman, I should start acting like it.
I immediately shook it off. “Um… Here is the morning report.” I said, dropping a checklist on his table, almost like I didn’t hear what he said.
I just needed time to process my thoughts. I turned around and walked back out to my desk, refusing to show my tears.
Later in the evening, all of the workers have left, I walked back into his office.
He was standing by the glass wall, looking out to the city. Hearing my footsteps, he turned around to face me. “Olivia… you are still here.”
“Hmm,” I nodded with a smile. “I thought it was best for us to discuss this without the risk of someone overhearing.”
He furrowed his eyebrows. “Discuss what?”
I huffed. “The kiss… Come on Justin, did you really think that you would just ask me to forget it and I would. Why did you do that?”
He sighed and came closer. “Olivia, I am sorry if my words came out harsh, but that is how it should be. We cannot have anything,” he said, pointing to the two of us.
I swallowed. “Why not?”
“You know why, Olivia.”
“Because I work for you?” I asked, pretending to be oblivious to his reason.
“No Olivia, because you are my stepdaughter.” He said with his jaw clenched. “Because this… Us… it is not just wrong, it is dangerous.”
“Wrong? It didn’t feel that way when you kissed me last night. You liked it, and I liked it too.”
“That doesn’t mean it is right,” He quickly cut in.
“Who defines what is right and wrong? This isn’t fair, Justin. You can’t get all into my head with such gesture and then tell me it is wrong, you are not my father. You make me fall in love with you, I agree it is not your fault, but I am not going to apologize for my feelings.” I said, tears forming in my eyes.
He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “You need to understand the position that I am in, the two of us cannot work. I am doing this in your best interest, not because I don’t like you.” He insisted.
“My best interest? So… that is why you say it is dangerous? You worry for me, but you forget that I am an adult, I am no longer a child, I can make my own decisions and I want us.” I argued.
He shook his head. “I am sorry Olivia, No.” he stated in finality.
I took a deep breath and let it out. “Kiss me again.” I said softly, almost in a whisper.
“What?”
“Kiss me again, Justin. And if it still feels wrong, then I will forget any of this ever happened.” I promised.
He stood there looking at me, his gaze gentle yet intimidating. He covered the space between us and his hand caressed my face, his eyes fixed on my lips.
“You think I don’t want to?” he muttered, his warm breath against my face.
“Then do it, tell me if it feels wrong.” I pushed.
He held up my jaw, bringing his mouth closer to mine. My eyes closed on their own and I waited for his lips, to savor it one more time, even if it was the last.
But then he sighed and pulled back. “I am sorry, I can’t do it.”
“Justin…”
“Go home Olivia, please.” He immediately turned his back to me, running a hand through his hair again. “You need rest, you have been working all day.” He added.
I huffed and shook my head in disappointment. “Okay,” I whispered. “Goodnight then.”
With that, I turned around and walked away. A part of me was glad that kiss didn’t happen, because what if it was the last?
Although I was confident, my feelings were not one-sided. I have seen the way he looks at me, the way he speaks to me, the way he cares for me. That was a man in love, and he is not going to be able to hide from his feelings forever.
Rico's PovAnd there it was, a silence that felt like eternity, cold, distant…I couldn't just wrap my head around it. She was gone? I hated how she said her goodbyes, how she let me live on with the intimacy I would never get again. Why did she let herself drown in such misery? Now I carry all the guilt. The guilt of not reaching out to her when she needed me. I had abandoned her feelings, neglected her when she needed help. As I stared at Onyx being rocked in my mother's arms, my heart sank. Was it right that I didn't attend Olivia's burial? Was it right that I escaped with Onyx from the hospital? Was it right to take Onyx away from Jaden as Olivia instructed? I was still unsure about my decision, I had all the evidence that made me a custodian to the little girl, but my heart still felt like I had done something wrong. Would I be able to keep up? To take care of her. If she grew up and asked questions, how would I explain the complicated situation? "She looks like her mother,"
Rico's PovMy car screeched into the hotel building and I immediately turned off the engine and got out of the car. I stormed into the reception without wasting any more time."Room 64 has an emergency!" I hit the reception counter. "Now!""Sir, you have to hold on. Where did you get this information from?" The receptionist asked"A lady is trying to hurt herself and you have to do something!"The receptionist looked up, her brows raised with concern but also doubts "What's going on? I'm afraid we can't just enter a hotel room without permission, sir. It's not protocol."I slammed my fist on the counter, "Protocol? You're talking about protocol? There's a human life at stake here!"She softened slightly, and she picked up the phone. "Okay, sir. I'll call security, and we'll investigate. But you need to calm down and tell me more about what's going on."A few minutes later, the receptionist, security guards, and I rushed to the hotel room. My heart was pounding in my chest as we approa
Rico's PovLetting her go again didn't seem like the right decision but was I just being stupid? After cheating on me, she remarried even when our divorce process wasn't complete, which was basically against the law.Was she that desperate? Had she really forgotten about me? Then why was she here now? Olivia and I snuggled against each other on the bed, she smelled different and she tasted different too. She couldn't stop crying while we had sex, while I whispered that she was beautiful. I had taken her lips in mine and didn't want to leave them. She said she was going to sign the divorce papers before she left, which was her last goodbye to me. Is this the way she was moving on finally? I didn't want her to sign it. I wanted her to stay so that we could have more conversation about what was going on with her.But she kept insisting that she was leaving and she had no time to spend with me. It's been one hour of intimacy, and I didn't want to let her go. I questioned how I easily le
Olivia's Pov"Your existence is my greatest fault. Seeing you is the most bitter thing that has ever happened to me, Mum" I sighed out loud. "I do not care how you feel.""Yes. I know, but it doesn't change how I feel. You suck, you suck, you fucking suck Mary." I spat, looking into her eyes so intensely that she had to look away to Jaden."Is that why you're here, to give boring speeches?""I am here to apologize to you, actually." I rocked Onyx gently when she began to make little noises. "I am here to apologize for being a burden to you, and to your husbands. I'm here to apologize for always looking up to you in secret and wanting all you had. I am here to ask forgiveness for wishing you would give me all your attention…and I am also here to wish you all the worst of luck as you grow." I smiledJaden looked at me, feeling impressed with my statement."I am going into a new life where I will be very far away from you and I hope you don't miss me.""I never have and have never done
Olivia's Pov"He came here? That's surprising" Jaden walked to the cot and gently took my baby, whom we had named Onyx and he kissed her on the cheek. The baby's face squeezed as her eyes remained closed and her little hands in the air. "What did he come to do? And why didn't he stay?" He gently dropped her back and walked to where I sat on the bed.I had remained in a spot since Justin left, typically useless if you would ask me, but I haven't stopped thinking."Jaden…" I mentioned, my eyes fixed on the TV while I watched nothing. When I felt Jaden beside me, my eyes went to him. "I want to go home," I said. "I want to go home, Jaden."His gaze hardened with every second as he studied me. "What did Justin say to you?""He didn't say anything he shouldn't have…" My voice broke. "I need to apologize to my mum" My eyes were soaked with tears. "I need to apologize to her, Jaden. I don't feel at peace.""You cannot just take a sudden decision if Justin hadn't told you something.""How els
Olivia's PovWell, it had been about six months and the biggest news of my life reached me when I pushed my baby out. It was a girl. Jaden had wanted it to be a boy, he had said he wanted someone who would imitate his lifestyle. I wasn't comfortable with that statement and I had prayed it would be a girl.We requested that the gender of the child be revealed to us only a month before delivery and when we threw the baby shower, it was a crazy party at our house. Too crazy it broke the internet. But now we were fine, we had taken in all the backlash comments and had thrown them out of our other ear, because Jaden never listens to anyone's advice and only does what he wants. He hired more maids and a nanny to help in the house when the child arrived. No doubt, I lived with ease, but not peace. "Ma'am." One of the maids walked into my room. "Someone is at the door and he asks about the boss"I rolled my eyes. Jaden wasn't home and I didn't like it when his friends came to spend time wit
