Breakfast was supposed to be normal.

It had been a week since… well, everything. The yacht. The kiss. The conversations we didn’t have. But somehow, over the past few days, we had drifted back into this strange rhythm laughing at stupid jokes, throwing sarcastic jabs, pretending like nothing existed between us except… family.

Family.

God, I hated the word when it came to her.

This morning, Lily sat across the counter, legs folded underneath her, wearing one of those tiny satin shorts she probably thought were harmless. They weren’t. Nothing about her was harmless. The sunlight from the patio spilled across her bare shoulders, making her skin glow like golden silk. Her hair was still damp from the shower, curling softly against her collarbones.

I shouldn’t have noticed any of this. But I did. I always did.

She caught me staring and raised an eyebrow. “What?”

    Lily: I woke up the next day and rolled to the side to hug Mason but the bed was empty. I frowned and then opened my eyes. Only a creased bed was beside me.
