Isabella pov

“Come on, girl, the triplets alphas are having a pack gathering in the next few hours. Let's get something to wear in a nearby store.” Mae's voice rang through the thick air, jerking me off my thoughts. I was busy in the library, checking the record of myself. The scariest part of everything was the little child's picture, which looked exactly like me. I felt Mae's touch on my shoulder.

“Have you been listening to me?” She questioned, standing akimbo, with a frown on her face.

“What… what…” I stammered, then sighed. “Sorry, what were you saying?”

I blinked, my eyes fluttering back to life as Mae's words sank in. "Pack gathering?" I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper. The triplets, Damien, Asher, and Mason, were notorious for their gatherings, which often ended in chaos and excitement. I wasn't sure if I was ready for that level of excitement, but Mae's enthusiasm was infectious.

Mae's frown deepened, her eyes narrowing. "Yes, pack gathering! You weren't listeni

Enzo’s POV The moon hung high above the trees by the time Thalia and I returned to the pack borders. Our fur still glistened with sweat and moonlight from the run. I hadn’t felt that light in years. Maybe not since before I took the title of Alpha. Certainly not since things fell apart between Thalia and me. She didn’t speak as we walked back toward the stone path that led to the pack house, but she didn’t need to. Something had shifted between us. She had let me in. Even for just a night, that was enough. The instant we crossed the threshold into the courtyard, the world reminded me I was still Alpha. And that peace was temporary. Elder Madoc stood by the front entrance, hands clasped tightly behind his back, face pinched like someone had poured vinegar down his throat. Beside him, the other council elders—three in total—waited with stiff backs and even stiffer expressions. Thalia peeled off toward the guest wing without looking back. I didn’t stop her. “Alpha Enzo,” Madoc gre

Thalia’s POV The forest had always been my place—wild, untamed, and silent enough to drown out the noise inside my head. The golden light of the late afternoon filtered through the thick canopy above, casting a honeyed hue over the moss-covered ground. My boots crunched softly over fallen leaves as I moved further into the trees, my bow slung over my shoulder and a blade strapped to my thigh. It was the first full moon of summer, and the woods were alive with scent and sound—ripe for hunting. I needed this, needed the clarity that came from moving in sync with the forest, with my instincts. Needed to feel like me again. The weight on my chest—memories, regrets, guilt, all of it—needed to bleed somewhere. And the forest was the only place that ever seemed to listen without judgment. I was just about to shift when a familiar scent drifted through the trees. Musky, fresh pine and something unmistakably Enzo. I turned, my fingers immediately tensing near the dagger on my hip out of

Asher – POVBeing a warrior was easy. You see the threat. You draw the blade. You bleed, you survive, or you don’t. Simple.Being an alpha? Still manageable—most days. Lead. Protect. Growl at idiots who needed growling at.But being a mate?Trying to make Isabella happy? That was a damn war of its own.Not because she made it hard—but because everything else did.The world didn’t stop for love. Not even ours. And after the forge, after the rot, after almost dying in her arms for the second time in one week… I realized I’d been doing a piss-poor job of giving her anything even close to peace. So I woke up the next morning with a plan.A stupid, reckless, probably-doomed-to-fail plan. But it was for her.So I was doing it.---Mason raised an eyebrow when I called him over at dawn, still shirtless, rubbing sleep from my eyes and trying not to grimace every time I moved my cracked ribs.“You’re limping,” he said flatly.“You’re observant.”“You shouldn’t even be walking.”“And yet,” I ge

Isabella – POVBy the time the second sun rose—thin and silver behind clouds that didn’t move—I knew something was wrong with the sky.It was too still.Too quiet.Like the world was holding its breath again, the same way it had before the pit opened yesterday. The same way it had before the screaming started and Asher almost died in my arms.I still hadn’t slept.Couldn’t.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw his body crumpled on the edge of that rift—bloodied, burning, still. My fingers twitched against the hilt of my dagger, comforted by the familiar curve of the blade. Cold steel made more sense than magic, more sense than prophecies or whispered destinies or whatever cursed weight the gods decided to dump on our backs this time.I didn’t want to be important. I just wanted to survive. With him.“Asher’s up,” Mason said behind me, his voice low and rough like gravel dragged across stone. “Still stubborn as ever.”“Good,” I muttered. “I’d hate to have to bring him back just to kill h

Asher – POV Dawn bled across the horizon like a fresh wound—sharp, red, and far too quiet. I hadn’t slept. Isabella was still tucked against my side, her breath warm against my ribs, her leg draped over mine like she owned the space—and me. Which she did. Gods, she did. But something was wrong. The birds hadn’t started singing. The river, which had babbled cheerfully all night, had gone still. Even the wind had stopped rustling the leaves like it was holding its breath again. And that hum… that low, throbbing hum beneath the earth? Still there. I carefully shifted Isabella off me, tucking the edge of the cloak tighter around her shoulders. She stirred but didn’t wake. Mason glanced over from where he crouched by the dying fire, rubbing sleep from his eyes. “You feel that?” “Yeah.” I stood, my sword already strapped to my back. “Wake the others. We’re moving in ten.” He nodded, eyes narrowing toward the treeline. “Think it’s another one of those shadow beasts?” “No.” I gl

Asher – POV The air still stank of shadow rot and scorched earth. I wiped my blade clean on the ruined cloak of a fallen creature, my eyes never straying far from Isabella. She stood in the middle of the chaos like a storm that had chosen to stay. Blood stained her hands, her arms, her cheek—but none of it was hers. Not today. She was breathing hard, jaw tight, hair matted to her forehead. And beautiful. God, she was beautiful. Not just in the way she always had been—fiery and infuriating and impossible to ignore—but in the way that only warriors understood. The kind of beauty that came from standing in hell and refusing to burn. “You good?” I called out. She nodded once, sharp and fierce. I started toward her, but Mason stepped in first, murmuring something I couldn’t hear. Her laugh was faint but real, and I paused mid-step. There was something about watching someone you love become someone they love too. It was humbling. Terrifying. And I’d never been prouder.
