Chapter 3

Author: Ava
Seven years ago, Draven fell in love with me.

But our bond was never blessed by anyone—not his family, not mine, not the pack.

In the end, everything ended abruptly. I left him without giving any explanation.

The truth is… our bond could've continued. All it needed was one more step.

But I didn't take it.

I couldn't fulfill even his last, simplest wish. Not even that.

Back then, his parents had already planned out his future:

He was to attend the prestigious Werewolf University in California, far away from me.

But he didn't want to go.

He stood up to his parents, refused to obey, and tried to prove that he could become a powerful Alpha on his own terms—without following their path.

Yet the clan wouldn't give him a chance.

The moment he chose to stay with me, chaos followed.

Several pack leaders left.

Veteran warriors refused to fight.

The pack fell into disarray.

And all of that… wasn't because of him.

It was his parents—they were the ones pulling strings in the dark, manipulating the elders, applying pressure to force him into submission.

As for my family… we were struggling to survive.

We had nothing to offer him, yet we kept begging for his help.

Before his parents cut off his financial support, he had quietly been helping my family—sending money, covering costs, doing everything he could.

But once they cut him off…

He was left with nothing.

Desperate, he began taking dangerous jobs.

He even risked his life in illegal werewolf racing competitions, just to win prize money—just to help us.

However, during a high-stakes competition, he was severely injured when he tried to leap over a pit laced with silver.

His wolf was badly hurt, and from that moment on, he was never able to race again. No one could truly understand how helpless and devastated he was, lying alone in the infirmary bed.

In the end, it was his parents who finally gave in.

"Since we can't keep you two apart, then just go together—to the Werewolf University in California."

"If she goes with you… maybe she'll become someone who truly deserves to stand beside you."

His mother sent us both the acceptance documents for studying overseas.

After his mother left, the darkness that had clouded Draven's face for days finally lifted. A smile bloomed on his lips.

"Bella, did you hear what my mother said? She's accepted our bond!"

"You must come to California with me and stay for two years."

"You're not allowed to say no. I'm going to claim you as my mate. I love you too much—I have to mark you as my Luna."

That day, I was so overwhelmed I couldn't stop the tears from falling. I wrapped my arms tightly around him, heart full.

My lips trembled as I looked at him with everything I had.

"I agree. We'll go together."

When the day of our departure came, I broke my promise.

He waited for me at the airport until the final boarding call. Until the plane took off.

But I never showed up.

He called me—again and again.

I didn't answer a single one.

Then came his messages. One after another.

"You fool... If you don't want to go abroad, I won't force you. Just… pick up my call. Just once, my sweetheart."

"You promised to wait for me. I'll come back for you after I graduate."

The next morning, I was lying unconscious on a infirmary bed, my body covered in soot and the scent of burned fur.

When I finally woke up after the surgery, someone gently shook my shoulder.

"Are you okay, miss? Here's your phone. We found it in the burned area."

I stared at it… but I didn't have the courage to turn it on.

Then a werewolf firefighter stepped closer. He hesitated before speaking.

"Your mate… seems to have gone overseas."

"I saw his last message when I recovered your phone from the scene."

My body was weak, but my mind was terrifyingly clear.

I buried my face in my arms as a stabbing pain exploded behind my eyes.

Tears spilled down my cheeks—hot, uncontrollable.

Until they turned red.

The nurse beside me screamed, her voice trembling with panic.

"Her eyes…! She's bleeding from her eyes!"

"Sister."Lying on the gurney, about to be wheeled into surgery, Jim looked anxious.I rushed over.He held my hand tightly."Don't worry, don't be afraid. I'll be waiting for you right outside.""Just like before, I'll have a dream, and when I open my eyes, I'll see you again."I smiled and gently ruffled his hair. The doors to the operating room slowly closed.Sealing off Jim's reluctant gaze.I couldn't hold it in anymore. My trembling hands clenched into fists.Someone walked over."He'll be fine."I turned my head.Draven hadn't left.He stared straight at the surgery room."Jim's with you now? He's grown so much."I only nodded.Seven years ago, he was just over five year old.Back then, Jim had been placed with our father. When I was with Draven, he had only seen Jim once or twice.Draven stayed for a long time.I didn't understand why.But I still suggested,"You should get your hand treated."He nodded. And actually left. This seemed to be the first calm interaction we'd had s

"When are you going to finish paying the fees?""If you keep dragging this out, even if your brother does the surgery, the scar removal won't work as well."I stood there, staring at the medical bill in my hands. Two hundred thousand. The number blurred as my thoughts went blank. That night, I rechecked every single bank card, every savings account. Then I went to my boss—begged him for a full year's salary in advance.Even after that…I was still short.A hundred thousand."...Sis?"I turned around.Jim was standing there in the doorway, his small frame tense, his eyes full of fear."Let's just go home, okay?"His voice trembled."I'm scared. I… I don't want the surgery."He grabbed my hand, like he always did when he was little and afraid of thunderstorms.I crouched down and gently ran my fingers through his hair."Don't say that.""They'll use anesthesia. You won't feel a thing. I promise."He bowed his head, shoulders curling in on themselves."But it's just cosmetic, right? It's

I had scattered dreams—fragmented and strange—before I finally woke up.But even then, my vision remained blurred. The room was bright, and when I reached up to touch my head, I felt a bandage tightly wrapped around it.I fumbled my way to the door. When I looked out, I saw a tall figure slouched on the sofa. Empty bottles cluttered the table, and the heavy scent of alcohol hit me all at once. Then it came back to me—Before I lost consciousness, he had shouted my name.I murmured weakly, "You… are you okay?"His voice was hoarse and cracked, like it had been scorched by fire. When he noticed me, he froze, then slowly turned his head toward me.He got up, staggering as he approached. The stench of wine clung to him—he'd clearly drunk too much."Okay?" he sneered. "Bella, do you even have the right to ask me that?"His hand shot out, gripping my jaw tightly. His bloodshot eyes bored into mine.He leaned down, his breath hot with the sharp sting of liquor. It hurt—to the point of breakin

It was Draven. He spoke, his voice low and cold, like ice scraping against my skin."Well, you're pretty convincing pretending to be blind. Have you become an actress over the years?"He let out a scoff."How pitiful. If you're trying to seduce me, you're still not bold enough. You should try harder. At least…"He suddenly grabbed my hand and pressed it against his chest."Like this. Maybe then, I'd feel something for you again."I yanked my hand back instantly. My heart had been pounding wildly the moment I touched him—but his mockery pierced deeper than the contact. His cold laugh still echoed in my ears.I turned away from him, even though I couldn't see his face clearly."I'm sorry… I truly didn't mean to bump into you."And then, I walked on—blind, embarrassed, and aching. After all these seven years, this was how he saw me.A liar. A manipulator. A disgrace. All he had left for me was disdain and bitterness.I could feel his anger burning behind me, even if I couldn't see him.I
