The Braid In His Hair

Karica's POV

The partition in the car was flipped aside and the blonde-haired man's voice filtered through:

"We are reaching the airport."

He simply nodded at him, his lips forming a thin line.

The car stopped near a pure white private jet and opening the door he got out. Crossing over to my side, he opened my door and grabbed my arm before yanking me out with such force that my right foot almost twisted against the hard ground.

'Fu*king brilliant, just break my foot, Hercules,' I yelled in my head and sucked up the discomfort as he dragged me along towards the private jet.

It was chilly outside and I was glad he had lent me his coat. We climbed the stairs and I noticed how neat and posh the interior of his jet was. Everything was almost white and too clean.

He threw me onto a comfy-looking leather seat. My hips landed with a small 'thud'.

"Fasten your seatbelt," he sternly instructed and I obeyed with a sigh.

Squatting on the seat opposite me he did the same. The two men with him filed past us and sat down in the seat behind him. I couldn't see them.

His face was turned away from me and the dim light from above illuminated the half side of his face. His elbow perched on the armrest making his hand rest under his chin and the lithe fingers of his other hand drummed against the armrest. There was a permanent scowl on his half-lit face.

The jawline was so sharp as if it had been carved by a flat straight chisel and set to perfection.

The black dress shirt he wore had its sleeves turned up to his elbow, revealing the muscular arms with protruding veins running along like blue creeks. Two of his buttons were open revealing his clavicle and toned chest. There was some kind of tattoo peeking out.

My eyes went to his hair and they were silvery white with a braid in them, and fell to his broad shoulders. It was like he was a direct descendent of the Moon goddess; Selene.

The braid indicated he was from the Warbringer Clan. It was an ancient clan which produced some of the strongest warriors our world had seen. The Lycans were part of this clan and they always kept long hair and wore braids.

Each braid in their hair indicated something personal. Could be a special victory, their mate or lover, or it could be the birth of their child. Their braids were significant and he only had one in his hair and I wondered what it meant.

Without a doubt, he was the most handsome man I had seen but he was cruel and that's what I didn't want in my mate.

I wanted someone loving and kind like Adiyan was and yet I knew that was just a bubble life and he had popped it. Now I will be a fu*king breeder to his pack.

My heart convulsed in revulsion to even think how many of his men he would share me with and he must have felt it through the small bond which was forming between us for his posture didn't change but his confusion-ridden eyes swept towards me.

The stupid heart picked up its pace as if on a marathon run.

'Way to go, heart, announce to him what I feel, you need a mic,' I chided. The fucking bond playing havoc with my emotional state.

I quickly lowered my gaze, embarrassment flooding me for being caught while gawking at him.

Laila was triumphant in my head, somersaulting. 'He is not as bad as you think if you only give him a chance,' she purred and I remained silent, knowing too well.

"Sleep, we have a long journey ahead," that was a command, said forcefully with a clenched jaw, like he was barely tolerating my existence.

I was too happy to obey, anything to escape that unsettling piercing gaze of his. My hand swept through my hair, I hand combed it and arranged it on one side, they had been sprawling all over, making me uncomfortable. My hand halted in my hair when he spoke:

"I told you to fucking sleep not open a hair salon. Are you this dense, that you can't follow simple instructions?" The taunting voice was humiliating and I could sense my face turning into a tomato from embarrassment.

Fury replaced my humiliation soon and I sent him a death glare, his eyes blazing in return, not liking how I stared back at him.

'Twat! You were saying?' I asked Laila and she was quiet now. No, defending the asshole who had no clue how to talk to a woman. I did not lower my gaze.

"Shut your eyes or I will glue them shut for you," he snarled, his body turned towards me now and I had no strength to fight him anymore. It was a thousand times clear, he fucking hated me to my bones.

I wanted to retort that if he carried the glue in his pocket and threatened everyone who went against him. But deciding against it, I threw him one last glare before slowly closing my eyes and turning my face away from him.

My thoughts went to Adiyan and I knew he didn't kill him. My heart was breaking all over again, knowing my selfishness had endangered the life of an innocent man, a good man.

I silently prayed that he was safe and would be able to move on. He had no clue about the supernatural world so he must be thinking I was taken by some Mafia Lord. It was going to break him apart. I had seen the love he held for me, his eyes always told me. The way they twinkled, whenever he would stare at me, the warmth they held. The tenderness in his touches. A smile crept up on my face thinking about it.

Just then my face was seized in an unyielding grip to the point that it hurt and reflexively my eyes flew open and they fell into those bottomless pits as he hovered over me, his face inches away. Fear crept up my body as my skin tingled from his touch and yet my heart was crammed with dread and anxiety.

"I told you to sleep, not fantasise about your ex-boyfriend. Don't make me regret not killing him," he snapped, baring his teeth at me. My heart sank.
