Chapter 1

ผู้เขียน: Thursday
I was bound to an iron chair in the Sollazzo family's underground tribunal. The bare bulb overhead glared so harshly that it was hard to keep my eyes open.

"Lina Colletti."

Valeria Sollazzo stepped toward me in her black heels. Four black-suited confidants followed behind her, filling the room with oppressive pressure.

"It's been ten years," she said. "How much longer do you plan to keep hiding?"

She leaned down, her fingers clamping around my chin. "The night Sophia died at the docks, you were there. You saw the killer."

I turned my head away, avoiding her eyes. My throat was so dry that I could barely force the words out. "I didn't…"

"Didn't?" Valeria abruptly released me and slapped me hard across the face.

The crack echoed through the tribunal. I tasted blood at the corner of my mouth.

"If you hadn't kept your mouth shut back then, the Gambinos and the Sollazzos never would have turned on each other. We lost three docks, and seven casinos went up in flames. More than 30 of our men died in the fighting. And Sophia—she wouldn't have died for nothing."

The room erupted. Every pair of eyes burned into me, filled with hatred.

"You traitor!"

"Throw her into the sea!"

"Kill her!"

The roar of furious voices crashed over me like a tide, drowning me.

Like ignorant mobs from the Middle Ages, they were ready to burn a witch at the stake, caring only about venting their rage.

They didn't care in the slightest whether I was innocent or guilty.

A screen in the corner glowed, showing a live feed. Every outpost and hideout in the underworld was tuned in, watching this trial. My humiliation was being broadcast for all to see.

"Bring the memory extractor," Valeria ordered, straightening and nodding toward the technician.

The memory extractor?

My eyes went wide. If they use that…

The moment she spoke, two of her confidants stepped forward and pinned my shoulders down hard.

"Let me go… Don't!" I thrashed violently.

"It's useless," Valeria sneered. "Today, you'll pay for what you've done."

The two confidants forced the memory extractor onto my head.

The cold helmet clamped onto my head like a torture device, its fine needles pressed against my scalp, ready to pierce bone and sink into my brain the instant it activated.

"Valeria, stop!" I struggled, still putting up a fight.

But every move only made the chains bite deeper into my flesh, leaving raw, bloody welts.

I couldn't stop a ragged scream from escaping me. "You can't extract my memories! You'll regret this!"

"Regret?" Valeria let out a cold laugh and strode to the control console, her finger hovering over the activation switch.

"My only regret is the day I pulled you out of the slums and brought you to live with Sophia and me! You spent the family's money, trained in combat, learned intelligence work… and for what? To become an accomplice to a murderer!"

The main screen in the tribunal hall lit up. The livestream to the underworld was live, and countless eyes followed it on their screens.

Valeria's voice echoed through the chamber, amplified by the speakers. "Today, I will show everyone what this traitorous scum, this bastardo who shielded a murderer, has been hiding!"

The moment she hit the switch, I heard my own scream.

Needles pierced my scalp with searing pain, and my consciousness began to unravel, beyond my control.

At that moment, the insults from the others, Valeria's interrogation—everything seemed to vanish along with my mind.

Only one thought remained: they must never see that memory. Never!

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital bed. My abdomen and back were wrapped in bandages, but a sharp, gnawing pain kept pulsing through me. Valeria sat beside the bed, her eyes red and swollen. She clutched the cooperation agreement in her hands."You're awake," she said, her voice rough. "Mateo is dead. The Leone family has been dealt with, with help from the Gambinos. Your parents' names are cleared—everyone in the underworld knows now. They were loyal people who were framed." I tried to smile, but it tugged at the wounds and made me wince. "That's… good.""I'm sorry," Valeria suddenly choked out, tears spilling down her face. "All these years, I blamed you. I shouldn't have doubted you or been so cruel. If I had realized sooner… Sophia would still be here, and Bruno would still be alive. And you… You wouldn't have suffered like this.""It's all in the past." I shook my head. "I kept the truth from you, too. I didn't want to put you in harm's way. I didn't wan

Mateo lay sprawled on the ground, clutching his bleeding leg. He glared at us with pure hatred."You think you've won just because you got the agreement?" he sneered. "It's useless. The explosives are already set. In ten minutes, this place will blow up."Valeria's face went pale, and she moved to pick me up. "Let's go!""No!" I grabbed her arm. "He still has the detonator. Even if we escape, everyone at the docks will die!"I forced myself to stand. The wound in my abdomen burned like fire, but I couldn't let Mateo have his way."Mateo, wake up," I said, locking eyes with him. "Look at what you've done. You killed Sophia and Bruno. You've destroyed so many of our own. Don't you feel even a little regret?""Regret?" Mateo sneered. "The only thing I regret is not killing you sooner." He suddenly lunged forward, snatching the gun from Valeria's hand and pointing it at us. "Today, none of you are leaving this place alive."He pulled the trigger, the bullet skimming past my shoulder

When Valeria and I followed Mateo's trail to the docks, flames lit up the night sky.He had already blown up two warehouses. The Gambino family's ships were shattered, and men screamed as they plunged into the icy water."Mateo!" Valeria yelled, her voice trembling with fury.Mateo stood at the entrance to the armory, a detonator in his hand. "Valeria, you made it.""You've lost your mind!" I rushed forward, only to be blocked by his men. "This is the family's property. These are our men's lives!""Lives?" Mateo laughed maniacally. "What are lives worth in the face of power? If I can't have it, no one else can. By tonight, these docks will burn to ash. You and the Gambinos… you're all going down with me."Valeria's expression turned cold. "Papa has given the order. You've been stripped of your birthright. From this moment on, you are a traitor to the family. Drop the detonator, and I'll give you the mercy of a quick, clean death.""A clean death? I don't want it!" His eyes were

Tension crackled in the square. Mateo's men had Giovanni surrounded, and Mateo still had a gun barrel pressed to Giovanni's temple. The Gambino family had also arrived, facing off against Mateo's men. Tensions were at a breaking point on both sides."Mateo, let Papa go!" Valeria shouted. She raised her gun, her eyes fixed on him. "The evidence is right here. You worked with the Leone family, killed Sophia, and betrayed us. You won't get away with this!""Get away? Why would I run?" Mateo sneered. "Half of the men here answer to me. Once I kill you traitors, I'll be the Don of the Sollazzos."He turned to the men around him. "Think about it! The Gambinos have been waiting for a chance to take our streets. Sophia's marriage was a trap! I killed her to protect la famiglia! And Lina, she's a traitor, working with the Leones. Now, Valeria is siding with her, ready to turn against her own blood. Are you going to stand for this?"Some of the agitated Soldati began shouting. "Kill the tra

When the cell door opened, Valeria stood in the doorway. Her eyes shifted between me and the corpses on the floor, impossible to read."Mateo was going to kill you," I said flatly, tossing her the torn fragments of the secret letter. "Proof of his dealings with the Leone family. He didn't just want me dead. He wanted you dead, too."She picked up the fragments, her fingers trembling. "Why him? He's my brother.""Power," I said coldly. "He wants to be the Don and rule the underworld. Sophia's marriage alliance stood in his way.""Where's the evidence?" She looked up at me. "The elders won't just believe a memory and a few scraps of paper.""Bruno." My voice trembled as I spoke. "Before he died, he hid evidence. That night, he ran into the woods. It wasn't random. He was hiding evidence of Mateo's crimes."Valeria froze. "Where?" "In a cave on the private island off Siciliana. There's a crack in the rock." I remembered Bruno's last look at me. He was showing me the way. "His coll

The screen displayed Mateo's face with stinging clarity, and gasps rippled through the tribunal hall."Fake! It's all fabricated!" Mateo lunged forward, jabbing a finger at me as he bellowed. "Lina, you traditrice! You're trying to cover up your own deal with the Leone family. So you forged this… this so-called memory to frame me!"He grabbed Luca Sollazzo, the Consigliere of the Sollazzo family. He urged, "Think about it, Consigliere Sollazzo. Her parents were traitors who betrayed this family. She has been sitting on that hatred for years. And now she's working with outsiders to tear the Sollazzos apart!"The elders whispered among themselves, casting hostile looks in my direction.Valeria stood where she was. Her face was drained of color, and her hands were clenched tight. Her gaze flicked back and forth between Mateo and me, torn and wavering."Valeria, don't believe her!" Mateo pressed on, his voice dripping with venom. "She kept her mouth shut back then because she was guil
