Maybe it came with the paternal instincts that triggered when Hudson entered his orbit, but at the slightest hint of disturbance, she was immediately awake. Most of the time, she snapped awake, echoes of a bad dream bleeding into the background as she tried to calm down her racing heart. But days like this were a little different.See, Arabella was already up by the time she heard her door slowly open, the telltale small squeak of the hinges startling her from her slumber. Stranger! Please be my Child’s Father .Chapter 16: new bedroom + new sleeping positions . It was so very easy to settle into a routine with his little family. Both of them would drop off Hudson in the mornings, Arabella would pick up the little boy on her way home from work, Gael would come home early in the evenings, both of them would trade off on who cooked dinner, and Gael would complete the rest of his work from the home studio. It was nice–some days he could watch Arabella relax and help his son with homework as she prepped dinner–other days he was able to indulge in his wife’s god tier cooking. Her throat had cleared up, her nose was less congested, and aside from the early-in-the-morning fatigue, she felt a lot less like the groggy, tired monster she had been yesterday. She also didn’t feel any of the dry mouth, harried breathing after waking up after a night full of nightmares. She must have had an actual, pleasant sleep for once. The rapper had waited until the mother and son duo had brushed their teeths and sipped their coffees (Hudson had hot chocolate made by Gael because it apparently tasted better, but all Gael did was prepare the Nestle chocolate mix, so he didn’t know what the little rugrat was talking about. Okay, he totally put a little extra sugar as a treat.) to break it to them, and Arabella’s face had completely drained of any and every hint of color. Gael was helpless as the woman fretted and ran around the house. She was quick to send Hudson to shower, then rushed to get an ironing board, ironing out Gael’s and Hudson’s clothes until they were creaseless. Ideally, the night wasn’t supposed to include Arabella almost stabbing Gael with a chip, or Faye laughing so hard that juice spurted out of his nose, or Hudson biting Louis’s finger. See, initially, it had been a regular night. Gael had kicked off his shoes at the door, 4:00 PM reading out on his watch. He supposed it was the earliest ever that he had managed to come home, but he rather liked it. It was still light outside, and if he had timed it right, Arabella and Hudson were both home. He loosened his tie, before the pattering of feet clued him into the presence of newcomers. Given his name and power, he was given an appointment immediately, for the day after. (It helped that he had practically helped raise this particular photographer, almost like a son of his and one of his favorite people.)
