Chapter five

Ariana’s POV

“What the heck is going on back there?” Someone said from afar, but his voice was loud enough.

“I thought all the students were here. Whose voice was that?” Another said.

“You all should shift into your wolves and begin the run. The Alpha himself is coming to watch you, so you better impress him.” The first voice said. “Now let’s go over there and check who made that scream,” he continued.

Hearing this, my heart thumped faster. I looked at Diana with bloodshot eyes. Even though I didn’t say a word, I hope my eyes had told her what she did was quite foolish.

“Let’s go.” She said and started dragging me out of the building we were hiding over to the open field.

“We are going to get caught,” I said terrifyingly. At this point, I was more bothered about getting caught than the pain I was engulfed in.

“That’s expected. They will catch us anyway so it’s better to give them something convincing. You’ll have to thank me later.” She smirked and started dragging me until we were fully outside.

Immediately, I spotted two teachers heading for us with angry faces. One was the math teacher who scolded me in his office, while the other was a woman I didn’t know.

“Diana? Why are you attaching yourself to that worthless human?” He snapped, having a look of disgust on him.

“Mr. Daniel, we…”

“You what? Stop giving excuses and leave her this minute.” He sparked.

“Wait, she’s hurt?” The other teacher said, examining my leg only for her to see blood dripping down, and it was twisted.

“What happened?” She asked again while Mr. Daniel looked away like he didn’t care even a bit. What he was occupied with was staring daggers at Diana for clinging to me and refusing to let go.

“When we heard the pack run had started we hurriedly followed this route since it was faster, but after jumping she had a misstep and fell on the wrong side,” Diana explained.

“Is she that weak that she hasn’t healed yet? Why is it still twisted?” Mr. Dan sneered.

“She just broke her knee. Even an Alpha will take a while to heal. Damn it!” Diana snapped back at him.

I was caught in the middle of everything with my tongue tied down. All the hurtful words he shot at me without pulling punches were still drilling a hole in my heart. For some reason, he seemed to have hated me when it was the first day we had met.

“Watch your tongue, Diana. Just because your dad is the Alpha, doesn't mean you get to talk to me how you want!” Daniel grumbled. His fist tightened like he would jump on her soon.

“It’s okay, please Mr. Daniel.” The other teacher said before turning towards Diana and giving her a deadly glare. “You don’t talk to your teachers like that! Got it?” She snapped.

“Yes. I am sorry.” Diana apologized.

“Good. Now bring Ariana down to the shade. We will have the pack doctor take a look at her.” She said again worriedly.

Just then, she felt like an angel to me. How I wish she was our math teacher, and Mr. Daniel here would be sacked. Still in my thoughts when another presence appeared before us with an aura that would burn a building down.

All of us were jerked up and shivering. We turned back only to see it was Damien, standing shirtless.

“What happened to my mate?” He grumbled, staring at all of us like he could eat us all up in one gulp.

“Damien?” Daniel said, shivering. The kind of aura radiating off Damien was so terrifying. It wasn’t like any other wolf but that of an Alpha.

“She’s hurt!” Diana replied.

“Hurt?” Damien grumbled and made his way towards us. A grunting sound was still erupting from his lips as he reached for us, peeled me off Diana, and easily scooped me into his arms.

“I will take care of her. She’s my mate.” He grunted and no one could say anything. Rather, they gulped down nothingness and dared not say anything.

Even though Damien was also a student, the kind of aura he had made it seem like he was above them all.

“Don’t worry, you are safe with me.” He said, pressing me tightly into his hard chest, and I was forced to inhale his cinnamon scent putting a stop to my senses.

I couldn’t get enough of it. It was so enjoyable that I forgot my worries and could sleep in his arms, but I didn’t let the feeling get the best of me.

“What’s going on? What is happening?” Darius came running at us.

“It’s none of your business, brother. Go back to the pack run. I’ll help my mate recover.” Damien grumbled as he shot a glare at him and Darius who was worriedly coming was forced to halt.

“Can’t I know what's wrong with her?” Darius sneered.

“No! She’s my mate, not yours!” Damien grumbled and turned the opposite way. The incident with me had created a scene.

Most students were in their wolf forms watching us, while some had shifted back to their human form and were now watching.

I felt partially embarrassed, but with Damien by me, clinging to his chest, I didn’t have to look at them. My head was buried in his chest as I drowned in my worries while he leaped off somewhere.

I didn’t even bother to look, as all I cared about was getting out of here.

“It’s okay you. You can look up.” He said to me and I slowly pulled off his chest, and that was when I realized I had been clutching his arm tightly, yet he didn’t wince nor did he complain.

Rather, he was looking unaffected by it and was even smiling. Our eyes locked, and gently he laid me on the bed.

Looking around I found myself in a very vast room that had expensive fittings compared to the one I was staying in. We were both students, and yet, he was living in a place like this?

Was it because he was an Alpha that was why he was treated differently in this pack?

“You haven’t healed yet? What’s going on?”  His voice pulled me out of my daze and I shivered, looking at him.
