Chapter 1

"Jennie, you sickly hag, I've already had enough of you! Get out!"

I was yanked awake from my sleep, and the very first thing I saw upon opening my eyes was my husband Charles' vicious gaze. I couldn't help but tremble, but I didn't know what in the world was going on.

As my husband babbled, I finally got a hold of the situation. It seemed that after I fell asleep and woke up, Charles had suddenly gained the ability to foresee the future.

In the future he foresaw, a high-temperature apocalypse would arrive in one week, yet the very first thing he did was kick me out of the house.

I looked to my mother-in-law, Kate, in hopes that she'd put in a good word for me, but she only rolled her eyes. "If it were up to me, Charles would have divorced you ages ago! What kind of lazy daughter-in-law would still be in bed at five in the morning instead of making breakfast for us?"

My father-in-law, Arthur, grumbled, "You haven't even given my son a child after so long, so what are you even good for? Now that Charles has awakened such a strong ability, he'd be able to get any woman he wanted!"

I almost laughed at their shamelessness. Back then, the two of them moved in under the excuse of “taking care of us,” yet they never cooked a single meal or did any housework. Instead, I was the one who woke early and worked late to take care of them.

Last year, Kate became paralyzed, and Charles begged me to quit my job to take care of her. I obliged, taking care of her, waste and all, with all my heart. Every night, she'd torment me: hungry one moment, thirsty the next, and needing the toilet again and again. Last night, she kept me up until 3 a.m. before I could even go to bed.

I only slept a meager two hours because of her, and now she was blaming me because of it!

Looking at this heartless family, I felt a disappointed chill run through my heart.

Seeing that I didn't react, Charles kicked me hard. "If you want to die, don't do it here! Now get out, Iris is going to be jealous if she sees you later!"

Iris... as in his first girlfriend? Since when did they get together again?

I wanted to question Charles, but a bunch of comments flooded my field of vision.

[Poor MC, not only is she getting kicked out, but that piece of human trash is going to take her life-saving money to buy goods!]

[Man, is she really going to die like this? She doesn't have the money to perform surgery, and that heatwave is coming up too!]

[Actually... the MC's not really sick. The one who's got breast cancer is her mother-in-law! The hospital got the records mixed up.]

[Whoa, really? Becoming paralyzed and getting cancer seems about right for her, but how did someone like the ML get that cheat ability? Does he even deserve it?]

[Yeah! If he can see the future, doesn't that mean he can predict the winning lottery number, too? He's going to become rich!]

[His ability can only predict the weather after one week, so no dice. Besides, it's going to get taken away from him after a week anyway.]

[Oh? So he won't have any idea about the ice age that's coming after that short heatwave?]

I was completely stunned, unable to understand why I could see these words floating in front of my eyes. But undeniably, I did get diagnosed with breast cancer a week ago! Now, these comments were telling me that Kate was the one who had cancer, and not me?

Suppressing my shock, I kept a calm expression plastered on my face.

Charles' voice was filled with glee. "I'll stockpile all the goods I can! Let's go buy ice, ice cream, cold drinks, and cold beer! I'm going to build the ultimate ice house, and sit inside and watch everyone else die from the heat while popping a cold one, haha!"

I silently curled my lips into a faint smile. An ultimate ice house, huh?

When the ice age arrived, that ice house wouldn't be their shelter. It'd only make them die faster.

Charles sent me a video call request, and after some thought, I accepted. The moment the call connected, his frantic voice came through, "Jennie, look! I've killed Dad and Mom! They're the ones who came between us, spoke badly about you, and mistreated you while I wasn't around, so I've taken revenge for you!"Won't you forgive me and give me something to eat, Jennie?"Seeing him try and claim credit, a wave of disgust rose in my chest. How could I trust someone who could kill his own parents? All this time, he knew that his parents were tormenting me, yet he acted like he didn't know, staying conveniently silent. What a frighteningly selfish man.Not hearing a response from me, Charles started to play the emotional card, bursting into tears in front of the camera. "Please, Jennie, save me! I'm starving, freezing, and I'm about to die! I know I was wrong, I really do… If you save me, I'll treat you right from now on!"I swear I'll love you for the rest of my life. Don't you reme

  • Sub Zero   Chapter 6

I couldn't even begin to imagine how miserable my fate would have been, had I not found out about the future from the commenters. After all, I never thought that the man I was married to would be so cruel to me.I shook away the thoughts in my head, looking over to the rows filled with goods and supplies that filled me with peace. In this ice age, food was more important than anything else. After eating, I took a nice, long nap. When I woke up, I stretched lazily before the comments appeared in my vision again:[Whoa, talk about bloody! There's nothing scarier than human nature in the apocalypse!][Yeah, it really magnifies the darkness of humanity…][To think he could even do that to his own parents… what an animal!][What a selfish scum! He could do anything for a mouthful of food!]I turned on the surveillance and saw Charles and his parents fighting each other, bloodied and bruised, all over a single pack of instant noodles."You old hag! Why are you fighting me for this f

  • Sub Zero   Chapter 5

Charles blurted out in shock, "What? But didn't you get breast cancer?"I ate a mouthful of lettuce wrap, allowing the aroma to fill my mouth, and swallowing before I replied slowly, "Oh, the hospital made a mistake. I should've placed the correct diagnosis somewhere at the entrance, so go and take a look."Through the monitor, I saw Charles stumble his way to the entrance and find the diagnosis, his face filled with disbelief.Kate couldn't hold her temper. "Son, what's going on? Is that woman coming back or not?"Then, as if she thought of something, her expression became vicious. "Hmph, if she doesn't come back, she can die outside! No one would be there to collect her body anyway since her parents are dead. Besides, since she's gotten a dirty illness like that, she can die for all we care!"And so, Kate continued cursing, her vocabulary as colorful as the rainbow, yet she didn't notice Charles' strange expression.Arthur was the one who realized something was wrong, and he im

When I woke up the next day, the temperature had already dropped to -4°F. I quickly turned on the heating equipment and took out my phone to check the surveillance on Charles' house, as the entire house grew warm and cozy.Because of their ice house and cooling machines, the temperature there was bound to be even lower."It's so cold! Charles, take out the blankets!" Iris shivered, her teeth chattering. However, Charles was stubborn. "What are you afraid of? The temperature's going up soon!"Kate couldn't hold it anymore either, her voice trembling. "It's too cold, Charles… Go out and buy some blankets!"Charles didn't pay her any heed, continuing to loudly insist that the weather was going to become warm again, even if his face was already becoming bluish-purple from the cold. After stubbornly holding on for another day, Arthur was the one who couldn't take it first. He rushed outdoors, planning on buying a few blankets, only for the streets to be devoid of any activity, the sho

  • Sub Zero   Chapter 3

I hired people to reinforce the doors and windows of the building, replaced all the glass with bulletproof glass, and installed a fireplace and underfloor heating…The workers were clearly perplexed by my decision to install all this in such hot weather, but since I was paying enough, they didn't ask further. As for the ice age, I didn't widely publicize it or tell anyone. Putting aside whether people would believe it in the first place, even if they did, it might lead to complications further down the line.In a calamity, the most terrifying thing was human nature. I was only one person, and I could do nothing more than ensure my own survival. It only took one week for me to prepare everything, and I finally felt relieved. According to the comments, only seven days were left before the ice age, meaning that the heatwave was right on the horizon. As expected, the very next day, the temperature kept rising from 85°F, to 95°F, to 105°F, to 115°F...I stayed in my room the whole tim

  • Sub Zero   Chapter 2

"I can make way for Iris, but can I at least have some time to move out?"Charles clearly hadn't expected me to relent so easily, so he took a while to process what I'd said. However, thinking that I was on death's door and that I was no threat to him, he nodded nonchalantly. "And take those rags out with you! It's going to take up space and delay me from stocking up on ice!"Following the direction he pointed, I saw the bedding set, a gift from my mother when I got married, tossed haphazardly on the floor. My parents had been divorced since I was young, and I grew up with my mother. Not long after I got married, however, she passed away from illness.Even without Charles saying it, there was no way I was leaving something this precious to them! Besides, they'd know how important any bit of warmth was during the ice age."These quilts and thick clothes take up too much space! Throw them all away!"After barking out those orders, Charles rushed out the front door, making a beeline
