After thanking Lauren again and giving her a brief hug, I quickly made my way out of the mansion. The sun would be setting soon, and I wanted to take a stroll in the city for a while to take some photos for what I needed to do next. Although I wasn’t absolutely sure what Dina was up to, I had a very good guess.
The city center felt even busier that early evening when I arrived than I remembered the last time that I was there. It seemed like a few more shopping malls had popped up and some new skyscrapers that were under construction the last time that I was there had opened up as well. As usual, the crowd was a good mix of people ranging from couples, university and high school students and regular working adults. I used to come here with my sister all the time to hang out after high school or whenever we were allowed or had the time.
After finding a good spot in front of one of the shopping malls that my sister and I liked to frequent, I took out my mobile phone and snapped a few selfies of myself. I almost bumped into a man that was walking by while I was too focused on posting my selfies onto my social media account.
‘I’m here now. You better come find me…’
That was what I thought in my head when I pressed the button to post my photos. Dina must have known that just like all those times when she disappeared that she would owe me something or at least an explanation. If I couldn’t find her, then the best that I could do was tell her that I was now back in the country so that she would get in touch with me and find me.
She better find me…
…
“I would like to check in please…” I told the receptionist at the hotel lobby.
“Please wait a moment,” she replied with a polite smile.
While waiting for her to settle the documentation and room security deposit, I took out my phone and took a short video of myself while making sure to showcase a good view of the hotel lobby before posting it on social media. If Dina is watching, she’ll know exactly where to find me.
“This is the keycard to your room. The Wi-Fi login username and password can be found here…” the receptionist informed me professionally.
The rest of her instructions drowned out in the background as I focused my eyes on my phone. Usually, Dina would call me but since she hasn’t done that, she must be scared of someone tapping her phone or tracking her based on her phone signal. I shrugged while thinking that she could easily call me from another number if she wanted to.
Is that it? Has the hunt for her become that bad?
Dina should be very good and experienced at these kinds of things and I shouldn’t have to worry in her place.
“Umm…thanks,” I thanked the young lady politely before heading to my hotel room.
The hotel room was a standard and modest one, but I liked its modern touch, plus the online reviews did say that this hotel was clean and had good and friendly staff. After taking a quick warm shower and washing my hair, I emerged from the bathroom with a white robe wrapped around my body and my hair still dripping wet. It was quite disappointing that my phone had not rung even once even though I had turned off its silent mode.
When is Dina going to give me a call?
I flopped myself down onto the bed before reaching out to grab the hair dryer. That was when my phone started ringing and vibrating on the same table right next to the hair dryer. My outstretched hand suddenly changed its destination as I hurriedly grabbed my phone. Just as I had anticipated, there was an unrecognized foreign number displayed on my phone screen.
“Dina…” I said in a low voice as the line connected.
“Well…someone surely sounds furious…” Dina’s sweet and familiar teasing voice replied through the phone before she let out a giggle.
My eyes narrowed at her seemingly carefree attitude. I knew that I shouldn’t feel at all surprised but that didn’t stop me from feeling irritated at how happy she seemed while I was suffering again while cleaning up after the mess that she had caused.
“Where are you right now?” I asked.
“Does that even matter? Welcome back to town,” my sister replied.
“Where did you run off to this time? Where are you and who are you with? Actually, it doesn’t matter anymore, just come back home,” I told her hurriedly.
“I’m really sorry, Leya, but I really can’t go back this time,” she said while sounding truly apologetic.
“Why? Listen to me, what you’re going through is just another illusion. It will pass and you will come home just like all the times before,” I said before letting out a sigh.
“Nope. This time it’s different. You probably don’t understand but he’s really my true love,” Dina argued stubbornly.
I had no idea how many times Dina had spoken about ‘true love’ to me over the years.
“Let me get this straight and you can tell me if my speculation is correct. You met a good-looking man who came to work at the mansion as a driver. Someway somehow, you ended up sleeping with him and now you’ve eloped with him. Am I right?” I asked although I already knew the answer well enough.
“Pretty much except you missed the fact that I felt in love with him at first sight…” she replied casually.
“Sis, how many times have you fallen in love at first sight?” I asked before pressing my lips into a tight thin line.
“Umm…a couple of times?” she replied in a high pitch voice.
“A little more than over ten times…” I corrected her slowly and clearly.
“Hmm? That many times? Are you sure?” she asked before giggling again.
--To be continued…
Bradon looked sincerely apologetic and that made it very hard for me to blame him for anything. It was true that the organizers did most of the work anyways. Although he looked like he wanted to do more, I doubted that when it really came to it how much he could actually contribute to preparing a wedding. "I want to get as much work out of the way so that when the time comes nothing and no one will disturb the wedding or distract me from it. Then after that, I wanted time for the two of us to enjoy a peaceful honeymoon together. Just the two of us," Bradon said. His voice and his words soothed my feelings of anxiety. I had a hunch that Bradon was working so hard to ensure that he would have some time to spend with me. Hearing about the honeymoon surprised me in a very pleasant way. "I guess this would be our second honeymoon in a way," I said as I recalled the first honeymoon that we went on together. So much had happened between then and now that I was starting to lose count of al
"To be exact, it is a message from the king sent through the formal palace channel. He has kindly requested to preside over the wedding," Leona explained before pressing her lips hard together. "What does that mean exactly?" Diana asked quite loudly."Please show me the letter that you received from the palace," I requested as I held my hand out. My mind was busy figuring out what Desmond had in mind when I took the envelop away from Leona. Something extremely fishy was going on, and I wondered if Bradon already knew about this. Leona handed me the letter so slowly that I wanted to scream at her. It took all the effort inside of me not to snatch the envelope away from her. "Let me read it too," Diana said as she brought her face next to mine so that we could both read at the same time. When I read the letter, it was undoubtedly from Desmond. The undertone of getting whatever he wanted when he wanted it was quite evident and clear. He mentioned congratulating Bradon and I officiall
"My only brother is getting married, so ofcourse I'll be there. Congratulations on the wedding. I wish you both true happiness," Anthony said before flashing me a gentlemanly smile. "Thank you..." I said all that I could say. I wanted to tell him to quickly patch things up with his brother because nothing good could ever come from a conflict, but I coudn't bring myself to say anything more. It was unfortunate that these twisted love triangles existed. They were not just hard to deal with, but one would never know how long-lasting the effect of heartbreak and disappointment would be. After wishing me a safe journey back, we parted ways for the day. I was certain that the next time that I would get to see Anthony would be at my big day. As I made my way to arrange other preparations for the upcoming wedding, I tried my best to push the look of hurt and disappointment on Anthony's face away from my mind. It might take a while until I could completely forget it all, but I was determine
"I guess I missed out on so much," Anthony said with clear regret. "I'm not sure how to explain this, but it seemed that my relationship with Bradon started long before we stood in for you and Diana at the wedding," I said before pressing my lips into a thin line. "What do you mean?" Anthony asked.I could tell that he was suspicious and I knew that it was time that I revealed to him the truth. Everyone had been playing their own games. In fact, the four of us had been at it ever since we were kids. "I finally figured out that Bradon took your place many times in the past. Just like he had assumed your identity and acted perfectly like you while you were unconscious in the hospital, I found out that he did the same thing many times when we were younger. When we were kids and when we were teenagers," I said.It took quite a lot of effort for me to pour the truth out to him. Anthony looked shocked, and although his lips moved as if he wanted to say so many things at the same time, he
"I don't know. Maybe that was part of it. Then very soon, I found out that it was actually Bradon," I said in a soft voice. I could still vividly remember that day that I walked down the aisle in my sister's place thinking that I was about to marry the man of my dreams. A smile tugged at the cornes of my lips when I thought that the truth wasn't quite far from what I had in mind at that moment. That sham of a wedding truly did lead me to eventually marry the man of my dreams. "You're not supposed to know about him..." Anthony said. His voice sounded unusually low and dark that it sent a shiver down my spine. It was at that moment that I truly realized that Anthony probably held a grudge against his brother and me. "I'm actually very glad that I got to know him. By that, I mean the real version of him and him as a person while he wasn't just taking you place," I replied before giving Anthony a pointed look.Anthony looked surprised, and that was when I knew for certain that he had n
"I don't know how he found out, but I'm sure that he knows. Bradon probably told him. Either that, or he found out from all the gossip that flies around. It's not like the whole organizing team is sworn to strict silence or anything," Diana said before grinning at me. "I guess..." I murmured softly. "If you're worried about him, why don't you meet up with him and tell him about the wedding yourself?" Diana suggested. Her abrupt suggestion caught me off guard and I wasn't sure how to respond for a few seconds as I stared blankly at her. At first, I thought that she was just joking, but the serious look on her face told me that she truly meant it. Diana nodded her head a few times as if she wanted to encourage me. "I guess you're right. I should talk to him. After all, we're not supposed to be strangers..." I agreed with her after a moment of pause. "That's right. Invite him to your wedding properly. Turn down his proposal, and tell him the truth about all that he needs to know so t
