Samantha.

I finally found my voice after it took me forever to overcome my surprise. “Tell me this is a wild joke, mother.” I rolled my eyes.

My mother chuckled before she let out a throaty laughter. “I mean it, Samantha. The billionaire heir, Ethnan, will be paying us an official visit tonight.”

“Ethnan? The famous billionaire heir?”

She nodded, smiling.

I cupped my palms over my mouth as past memories flashed before my eyes. I could vividly see how I used to squirm like a distressed worm each time I saw Ethnan's face on the television, briefing about his multi-billion dollar real estate company. Sometimes I had to fight the urge not to lick the television's screen as his charming face filled the screen.  Ethnan, the most admirable bachelor in New York City, will be paying us an official visit? Unbelievable! What girl wouldn't be attracted to a man like Ethnan? He's smart, incredibly charming, successful, and famous. Excitement swept me off my feet as I pulled my mother in for a fierce hug. “I can't believe I will be setting my eyes on my forever crush tonight.”

Taking a step back, I slowly loosened my hands around my mother and asked, “How did you pull this arrangement? And what is the visit about?”

Her facial expression turned blank as though she willed not to give answers to my questions. “Well, you know the legacy your father built before his demise.” She cleared her throat. “If your father hadn't gone bankrupt before he died he would have been on the same status as Ethnan's father.”

I wasn't sure if her response was the answer I sought. There was no link between the events of the past and what's currently happening. Even before my father went bankrupt in his real estate business and died years later, he was never on the same financial ladder as Ethnan's father. Ethnan's father gained fame for being the most successful realtor in New York City while my father was only scrubbing his purse to stay afloat in his business. Aside from these, I could swear with my life that my father had no personal relationship with Ethnan or his father.

“But—”

“Samantha,” My mother shut me out, startling me. Her gaze fell on her wristwatch. “It's almost 5:PM.. You can't afford to look like this if by chance Billionaire Ethnan passes you a glance when he comes.”

“Yes, you are on point.” I threw my hands in the air and turned for the staircase. As I ascended the staircase I overheard my mother ordering our domestic help, to put everything in order.

“I am expecting an important guest, okay?” Her voice trailed over. When I got inside my room my thoughts were too scattered to allow me full concentration, so I started rummaging my closet for my dark-blue fitted gown. I could feel my heart beating fast due to mixed emotions. Excitement and anxiety swept through my nerves at the same intensity. In my mind were dozens of reasons why the famous billionaire was paying us an official visit, but none of them made enough sense to me.

After a while I got hold of my gown and dashed over to the dresser mirror. Peering into the mirror, I sized the length of the gown against my body, in a desperate attempt to see how well it would fit me. I wanted to make a mental scene of what Enthan's reaction would be like when he saw me adorned in this gorgeous dress, but I quickly shut my mind out at the realization that his visit had nothing to do with me. Even though I had bathed a few hours earlier I still considered it necessary to shower again. So I hurried inside the bathroom to give my body an intense scrubbing. About two hours later I was all set,, after spending a good amount of time wearing my make-up.

As though I were a princess anticipating the arrival of her prince, I walked in a majestic gait down the staircase.

“Goodness! You look stunning,” My mother's voice was charged with joy, in a way that surprised me. I had never seen her in such a lively mood since my father's demise. “Make sure to comport yourself with elegance and dignity when he arrives, okay?”

“What care would he give about me though?” I locked eyes with hers in the hopes that she responded in the positive, but she remained silent until I said, “None. Certainly.”

“You can never tell, Samantha. Men of his caliber are….” She paused as the rising sounds of sirens started to seep in. “Enthan's entourage I think.” She hurried to the window and I followed her.

“Wow!” I said breathlessly upon sighting parades of headlights illuminating our house, and fleets of luxury cars were slowing to a gentle halt outside. Could I be dreaming? All my life I never imagined a day like this could come.

“C'mon, let's get settled.” My mother retreated back from the window. I was so spellbound that it took me all the effort in the world to drag my legs and leave the window side.

Six men, dressed in dark suits, emerged inside and stationed themselves about, looking intimidating.  Soon, the billionaire stepped in and my mouth instantly went dry. As he walked in a kingly gait, the thudding of his footsteps was nearly soundless. He was unbelievably handsome and elegant, with a presence that reeked of power and charm. I couldn't hold a steady gaze on him because I was feeling like a teenager trembling with nerves at the sight of something strange. This  was the most nervous I had been all my life.

“It's such a great honor to have you here, Mr Ethnan.” My mother's voice was gentle.

“It's mice to meet you, Mrs Rebecca.” His tone was husky, a little low. “Should we afford some privacy to talk?”

“Sure.” My mother voiced out hastily, leading the way upstairs.

She could feel her blood boiling as tension gripped her inside “Calm down, Samantha.” She said to herself, placing a hand over her chest. She pushed the covers off her body and stood up. She thought of reaching out to Alfred to disclose the message she had received from Ethnan to him, but on a second thought she decided to keep it all to herself. She would have all the time to face Ethnan, but until after the launching of her new company. She had seen enough to know the importance of financial strength for a woman, so she wouldn't allow anything to step in her way now that she was close to achieving her biggest dream. She tucked a chunk of hair behind her ears and stepped inside the bathroom. One hour after she had hit the road, with her favorite music blaring from her car. She arrived at the place where she would have an interactive session with a group of experts over a geographical choice to situate her company building.Dressed in a dark blue, fitted gown, Samantha walked into th

Ethnan's eyes burned with rage as he sat across the table. “Where is this coming from, man?” He hit his hand hard on the table that Alfred flinched.“She sent in her withdrawal later this morning.” Alfred said calmly. “I couldn't convince her in any way.”Ethnan let out a laugh and cleared his throat. “I know the trick you both are trying to play,” he blurted. “But, guess what? It won't work. I don't care if my ex-wife has decided to pull out from the project we had at hand or not, all I care is I will look for her to the end of the world and get my son back.”Alfred rose to his feet, bending his neck forward until he was an inch close to Ethnan. “Point of correction.” His voice was thick. “He is not your son in every right!”Ethnan shoved him away so that he staggered to gain his composure. “You are an idiot! I will go to any extent to get my son.” He pointed a finger and added, “And If I want I will bring Samantha back into my life.”The following day Alfred boarded the next availa

Note to my beautiful readers: I felt the need to breathe life into my characters, hence my decision to switch from my previous POV to second POV. Thank you for being here in the first place. Samantha ignored Ethnan's question as she quickly grabbed her son's hand. “We need to leave right away.” She declared.“Can someone tell me what's happening here?” Alfred roared, throwing his hands in the air.As Samantha retreated her steps toward the car, holding tightly to her son's hand, Ethnan's eyes were pinned on her. The memories of the past flooded his mind, ushering in a sense of deep regret. “Shit! He muttered underneath his breath as Samantha zoomed away.“This is crazy, man!” Alfred turned to Ethnan. “Can you at least tell me what's happening?”“Stop pretending, man!” Anger spilled from Ethnan's voice. “I don't care about your pretense, all that matters to me is the safety of my son!”“What son?” Alfred's tone fell low.“Atlas is my son! I need not be told by anyone. The resemblance

Ethnan's POV If there's anything sure about me it was my lack of interest in attending special events or date nights. Never have I set out to sort for a nice spot for any event or celebration in my life. Had my father never considered taking charge of my wedding venue, hell would probably have turned cold before I could get my way through it. But, the level of enthusiasm I have been putting in just to sort out a nice spot for this dinner date was crazy. I felt insanely happy after finding a sweet spot that was all shades of luxury. I pulled out my phone to text the name of the place to Alfred, but I quickly decided against it and dialed his number instead. “You wanna speak to my Dad?” A soft voice asked through the receiver. “I'm guessing you are Atlas, yeah?” “Yes, I am.” He affirmed, and from the background I could hear chuckles and throaty laughter. Alfred was having a good time with his woman obviously. “Can you—” I couldn't complete my intended question as my voice was

Samantha.“He needs to go now, okay?” I made an attempt to loosen Atlas's grip from Alfred's wrist, but Atlas shrugged in resistance. “I want to go with my daddy.” Atlas cried, his voice echoing through the hotel room. The way he and Alfred have bonded within these few days, came as a total shock to me. They seemed as though they had always known themselves all their lives.“Sweetheart,” Alfred uttered calmly, placing a hand on Atlas's shoulder. “I need to go now, so that you and Mummy can retire to bed early. Remember you two had a long hour flight down to New York.”Silence settled in for a while. Atlas gently loosened his grip and turned toward me. “Come here,” I opened my arms and pulled him in. “Don't be sad, okay. You and daddy will have all the time together tomorrow while I get busy at work.” Locking his gaze on mine, Alfred moved closer to me. “I forgot to tell you something, Samantha.” He said in whispers. “My boss will be meeting you after work to give you all the flowers

Ethnan's POV “How was your trip, Man?” I ushered Alfred inside my living room. He rolled his eyes and a sheepish smile spread across his face. Without saying a word he sank into the sofa and wiped a hand across his face.“You seem drunk.” I uttered after studying his mood for a while. I picked an enveloped file from the center table and nudged it toward him. “You have been laughing like a fool, man.”“I am not drunk.” Alfred's voice came out clean. “I will tell you what's up with this mood of mine. But, first let's see what's in here.”I stood up to get a bottle of wine from the refrigerator when Alfred started to unseal the envelope.“Ethnan!” He screamed so loudly that I nearly lost the grip of the wine in my hand. I craned my head to his direction and his eyes were almost popping out against the document in his hand.“Calm down.” A big smile spread across my face as I held his gaze. “I was shocked too when the sales department gave it to me yesterday.” “Over a hundred awaiting re

Samantha. “Yes you can confide in me, Samantha.” Empathy gleamed in Alfred's eyes. He pushed a lump down his throat and wiped a hand across his face. “C'mon talk to me, Samantha. What's wrong with your son?”I bit hard into my lower lip and I tasted blood. “This feels hard. Harder than I had thought.” I sank into the chair and gathered Altas in between my hugging arms. “Atlas, you may need to go inside the bedroom now, okay? Me and your friend need to talk privately.” Without a word Atlas nodded his head and left. “Alfred, my life is an absolute mess!” Tears pooled in my eyes instantly.“Do not cry, please.” Alfred's voice was shaky. “It breaks my heart to see you cry.” He walked closer to me and stood right beside me, his masculine scent sweet. “Atlas's father is absent.” I finally lifted the weight of the words off my chest. “And his absence is starting to affect Atlas in some negative ways.”“Absent?” Surprise reeked from his tone. “How? Why?”I knew I was going to cry a mess, so

Samantha. The evening air was cool against my skin, and I could feel everything in my insides coming alive as I broke the news of my latest achievement to my son..“I am proud of you, Mum.” Atlas's hands rested against my shoulders, as I squatted, facing him. “You are a superwoman.” Seeing how happy my son was, an overwhelming feeling of fulfillment swelled inside me. “I promised to work hard so I could give you the best of everything, remember?” I gently tucked at his soft cheek. He attempted to speak, but tears filled his eyes. “What's the problem, Atlas?” My voice was tense. “Why are you crying?”“You didn't keep to a promise you made to me.” He was sobbing now. “I wish you had kept that one promise, mom.”“What promise?” I blurted, rising to my feet. For a while all he could do was sob, and mymy heart wept because Atlas's tears caused me to be miserable in some sort of way. Finally he told me that It was about his father. I had failed on my promise to him that his father was com

Ethnan's POV.“Five properties for a start, Alfred.” My cellphone was sandwiched between my ear and my shoulder, while my fingers worked on my computer. “If she executes her skills well enough on the five properties I will order the advertising team to put them up on advert, and then we track the sales progress.” “Alright, Ethnan.” Alfred's voice beamed into the receiver. I could hear a child's voice in the background that instantly filled me with the urge to ask Alfred a curious question. “The boy must be a lively one, yeah?” “Absolutely,” Alfred cheered. “He is such a sweet child.”“Good then. Make sure the tour is quick so that he and his mother can go back to the hotel on time.”“Sure.” Was Alfred's last response before he hung up.Two Weeks Later.“No way!” I screamed, my voice echoed through the roofs. “Sold out? Is this a joke or what?” I watched in disbelief as my company's accountant scrolled the screen of the computer, showing me the transaction history of the recent sales
