Chapter 5/I'm sorry what?

“I'm sorry what?” Sabrina spoke shocked after hearing Scott's name.

Her ex's name to be exact.

“I said that the other lawyer that I hired is Scott Lindsay Ackerman,” Shawn said, baffled with Sabrina's sudden reaction. “What's wrong?” He added, still not getting the situation.

Sabrina didn't say anything, she just sat there speechless.

But what's there to say?

This is supposed to be about business and Shawn is her client, talking about her personal life would be so unprofessional, and she showed him enough unprofessionalism tonight and that's not what she wanted.

“Nothing,” She said, clearing her throat. “It's getting pretty late and since I've done what you asked me to do, can I go now?” Sabrina asked, buttoning the third button of her shirt but leaving the two upper buttons unbuttoned.

“Yeah, let me walk you to your car.” He said standing up, getting his gaze off Sabrina's chest.

“No it's okay,” She said standing up grabbing her $2600 worth of Louis Vuitton bag before swinging it in her shoulder. “I'm pretty sure you have much better things to do and don't get me wrong, I love your company, but i just want to be on my own right now.” She said walking towards the glass door as Shawn sat back acknowledging her request.

“Sabrina,” Shawn called her name as she was opening the door, she just hummed in response, letting him know that she heard him.

“Thank you,” He spoke with a smile. “And If I said or did anything that got you upset then, It certainly isn't my intention and I deeply apologize.” He added uprightly, and she just smiled insincerely.

“You did,” Sabrina said, which formed a frown on Shawn's face.

“But it's not your fault, and it doesn't matter anymore.” She added before leaving the room.

He was left confused to what he did, and she was mad, not at him, but by the fact that not only will she be sharing an office with her ex, but she'll also be stuck with him for the next six months solving a case.

But what can she do? There's no backing up now.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Driving back home was a bliss, Sabrina's day was eventful, and she was drained.

The city of Denver never sleeps, but just like earlier, the calmness of the night was visible.

Sabrina opened the roof of the convertible car that her dad gifted her on her 25th birthday. She closed her eyes feeling the cold autumn air hitting her skin and her hair was flying around because of the breeze, though, it was only for a while since that she was driving, and she needed to keep her eyes on the road.

It didn't take long before she reached her apartment, she secured her car first, parking it before going inside.

Sabrina just got out of the elevator when she noticed that her apartment door was slightly cracked open.

Her heart started beating faster as she was getting nearer to her apartment door. Instead of getting the hell out of there and calling the authorities like a normal person would do, she chose to stay and even take a peak at what's going on inside, and that's when she saw her whore of a cousin putting a blanket on the couch.

“Jesus Aria, you scared the fuck out of me!” Sabrina exclaimed putting her hand on her chest while entering the apartment, “At least close the door next time!” She added, making sure that she closed the door behind.

“Oh hey sorry, I received your message and bitch congrats!” Aria said, running towards Sabrina before hugging the life out of her.

Aria was Sabrina's cousin and best friend. Just like Sabrina, she grew up living with patriarchies questioning her abilities as she was the only woman in the family too. When she turned 20 she started working as an investigator at Colorado, she was 6 years younger than Sabrina, but she managed to graduate first because law school takes more years to accomplish than criminology, despite their age difference, both of them managed to create a strong bond.

“I miss you too couz but I- I can't breathe." Sabrina said having trouble to breathe from her cousin's tight hold.

“Right.” Aria said letting go of her cousin.

“How the heaven did you get in, and why the fuck haven't you been shot yet?” Sabrina said, talking about the tight security of the apartment complex when it comes to Non-residents.

“Well, I used the extra key that you gave me in case I needed a place to stay, and the security sure is strict, but they're also just men who wanted to have the attention of a pretty lady.” Aria answered, waggling her eyebrows.

“I don't know whether to be proud or be disappointed.” Sabrina said as a joke, though there's some truth in there.

“So the reason I came here is to obviously celebrate, I wasn't able to prepare us something, so I just grabbed some take-outs.” She said, putting her arm around her cousin's shoulder while guiding her towards the couch.

“We're celebrating me?” Sabrina asked once she's seated on the couch.

“Yes, but we're celebrating me too,” Aria said which formed a smile on her cousin's face.

“My boss just made me sign a contract for an undercover assignment.” She added.

“Oh really? Congrats ri!” Sabrina exclaimed, hugging Aria.

“Yes but hush now,” Aria said pushing her cousin off her, “Go and change into something comfortable because we are going to have a glee marathon.” She added standing up, dragging Sabrina along with her then pushing her towards her room.

“Okay okay no need to push me you crazy brunette.” Sabrina said, slightly giggling from her cousin's actions.

Sabrina did exactly what Aria told her to do and once she was done she went into the couch just like what the younger girl instructed. She was already watching the third episode and Aria was fast asleep on her arms when she heard her doorbell ding.

“Who could that be.” Sabrina mumbled to herself carefully placing her cousin on the couch before walking to the door taking a peak through the peephole first before opening it, and that's when she saw a cute guy wearing a trench coat with a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolate.

As much as she liked that, she was also confused.

“How may I help you?” Sabrina said casually after she opened the door, leaning on its frame.

“Oh hi, good evening mate, Mr. Turner asked me to give you these.” The guy said in a British accent, handling her the bouquet and the chocolate.

Dang, I wish they were from you.  Sabrina thought to herself.

“Wait, who gave you my address?” Sabrina asked suspiciously.

“Mr. Turner.” The guy answered with a smile.

“He knew my address?” She asked him, and he just shrugged and gave her a 'how am I supposed to know that' kind of look.

“OK thanks?” She said, confused to why would Shawn send her flowers and chocolate. I mean, it's true that they used to be one-night stand buddies, but that was like 3 years ago and there was no emotional string attached there.

Maybe it's because he thought that he got her upset earlier? Or maybe, it was just a way to say thank you for helping him earlier, even though she was just doing her job?

Either way, she needed a confirmation.

“My name's Everett, it's nice to met you, Sabrina.” He said, extending his hand for Sabrina to shake.

“You know my name?” She asked, shaking his hand.

“Yeah, it's written in the card on the bouquet.” He said, scratching the back of his neck as Sabrina looked for the card that he was talking about.

“Oh well, it's getting pretty late and I have to get ready for bed,” Sabrina said once she saw the card. “Thank you.” She added, smiling at him.

“No problem darling and yes, it is indeed getting pretty late I have to go to,” He said slightly laughing. “Have a great evening, and it was lovely meeting you.” He added waving before leaving.

Once he was out of view, Sabrina went back inside making sure that she locked the door before going to the couch where her cousin was sleeping at, she grabbed the card on the bouquet and read it while smiling as she does so.

Well, what a lovely way to end the night.
