LOGINAlistair gave the woman he had never met before, yet found strangely captivating, his phone number. Without saying a word, he quietly typed the digits into her phone and received her promise that she would call him.
His car was too badly damaged to be driven safely through the city, so David called a tow truck. A company car soon arrived to pick them up, and they headed toward the office.
But for some reason, Alistair’s heart was pounding. It was as if an inexplicable, mesmerizing fog had settled over his eyes, and all he could see was her deep, dark eyes.
The sudden ring of his phone broke Alistair’s thoughts. His heart jumped with hope, and he quickly reached for the phone, staring at the screen with excitement. But it was not an unknown Georgian number.
Instead, the words “Bonnie Assistant” flashed back at him.
Alistair felt a heavy, cold wave of disappointment sink into his stomach. He rubbed his temples, trying to force his voice to sound normal as he slid the screen to answer.
“Yes, Bonnie?”
“Mr. MacLean, good morning,” Bonnie’s crisp, perfectly organized voice echoed through the line.
"Just a reminder that the Board of Directors is assembling in precisely thirty minutes. The local corporate partners have already arrived at the headquarters, and they are setting up in the main conference room. Your presence is required to open the introductory remarks. And the new legal advisor will be arriving as well.”
“Right. The board meeting...” Alistair muttered, staring blankly out the taxi window at Tbilisi's historic, winding streets. In the chaos of towing his broken car and scrambling to find a cab, the matter had completely slipped his mind.
“I’m on my way, Bonnie. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
He hung up and tossed the phone onto the seat beside him, feeling strangely lost. He was a man who was used to clear thinking, control, and complete focus at work. Yet now, he hardly recognized himself.
He had just spent the last half-hour standing on a busy street, completely fascinated by a woman whose name he did not even know.
"Will she really call?"
The cynical, business-minded side of his brain tried to warn him.
He had given her his number, but she hadn't given him hers. To any outsider, she could easily be a clever fraudster who had whispered sweet promises of reimbursement just to escape massive financial liability and police questioning.
Yet, as Alistair recalled the sharp intensity of her dark eyes, the fierce way she had protected that child, and the genuine, breathless worry in her voice when she asked if he was hurt, he knew it wasn't an act. She wasn't a liar. He didn't care about the damaged car, the insurance paperwork, or the paycheck. The only thing that mattered was hearing her voice again.
“Hey, we're here.” David, his friend said, nudging Alistair's shoulder as the taxi pulled up to a towering, ultra-modern glass skyscraper in the commercial heart of Tbilisi.
“You still look like you've seen a ghost, Alistair. Are you absolutely sure you didn't hit your head on the steering wheel?”
“I’m fine, truly,” Alistair said, smoothing the front of his charcoal suit and straightening his tie. He forced himself to put on his usual unreadable expression, the one he always wore in the boardroom.
“Just a bit distracted. Let's go take care of business.”
They took the sleek glass elevator up to the penthouse floor, where the company headquarters offered a wide view of the Mtkvari River. Alistair took a deep breath, trying to put his confused emotions aside. He needed to become the sharp, serious Scottish businessman everyone at the company expected him to be.
Then he walked into the large boardroom.
The atmosphere was tense. Members of his own board were already seated along one side of the long rectangular table, going through thick legal files.
“Ah, Alistair! Excellent timing!” the Managing Director stood up, smiling warmly.
“Our potential Georgian partners and their legal representation just arrived a few moments ago. This international merger depends entirely on their local compliance review, so today is crucial.”
Alistair took his place at the head of the table, nodding politely to his colleagues.
“My apologies for arriving right on the line, gentlemen. There was a minor traffic incident on the avenue. Let us begin the introductions.”
“Perfect,” the Managing Director said, turning toward the heavy frosted-glass doors at the back of the room.
“Allow me to introduce the Chief Legal Counsel who’ll potentially be representing our company. She is the one who will be advocating our local operations.”
The boardroom doors clicked open. Alistair looked up carelessly, preparing to offer a standard, polite corporate nod. But the breath was instantly dragged right out of his lungs, and the silver pen in his hand froze entirely mid-air.
Walking into the room, carrying a sleek leather briefcase, was the very same woman who had been driving the silver sedan. The wild, dark hair she had worn loose during the accident was now neatly pinned back in a flawless, elegant business style.
She wore an elegant, well-fitted blazer that gave her a confident, powerful look—a sharp contrast to the frightened woman he had seen by the roadside just half-an-hour earlier.
As she stepped forward, her eyes moved across the table and suddenly stopped on Alistair. Her confident step faltered for a moment. Her dark eyes widened in shock, and her lips parted slightly as she recognized the blond-haired man with the striking green eyes—the same man she had crashed into only minutes earlier.
The Managing Director, completely unaware of the shock that had just swept through the room, smiled proudly.
“Alistair, please meet the head of the legal team, Miss Melano Baratashvili.”
My love has no limits. It stands above everything and everyone. It is the most important emotion for me, in this whole world. But what I feel for you… I still don’t know if it is love or something even greater, Melano.”The couple escaped the hot summer night and stayed at a hotel outside the city. They enjoyed being alone, simply looking at each other. They forgot about everyone else and needed nothing more. In fact, whenever they heard someone walking nearby, they would immediately become uncomfortable and look at each other as if to say, "What is this person doing here?"Despite their incredible happiness, Alistair had something important to discuss with Melano.“You know, we need to talk…” he said quietly. They were sitting outside in a comfortable chair in a small gazebo, while Melano was almost asleep with her head resting on his shoulder. He gently moved her hair away from her eyes.“Not now… please.” Melano had a good idea what he wanted to talk about.“We have to talk now. Pl
Alistair was not dead. He had been taken to the hospital and undergone surgery, but thankfully, his wound was no longer life-threatening. Melano could not see him for several days because there were guards outside his room, and only close family members were allowed to enter.Noah was arrested, but he had a video of Melano in which she said that she had gone with him willingly. This made the case more complicated. Proving that Melano had recorded the video under pressure would take time, so Noah was released on bail while the investigation continued.A few days later, Melano finally managed to enter Alistair’s room. Amanda was standing over him in a white hospital gown and gently ran her hand across his forehead. When she saw Melano, she quietly gave her the chair.“How is he?” Melano asked carefully, not wanting to wake him.“He’s better now. He had a fever, but it’s gone. He’s strong. The bullet didn’t go too deep, but it damaged some tissue and tendons. We’ll have to see how well h
Friends could not convince Alistair to wait until morning, so there was no other choice. All four of them, David and three security officers, went with him. Nino begged them to take her along too, but they firmly refused. However, David asked her to stay on the line and said they would call her so she could guide them more precisely to the location and make sure they didn’t get lost. Nino had actually been to this ancient village in eastern Georgia before and was able to give them an approximate location, but it was impossible to drop an exact pin.It was almost dawn when Alistair’s car entered the narrow lane in the village that was marked on the map. As soon as they entered, David warned him, “Turn off the headlights and drive very slowly.”All five of them were armed, but going into an unfamiliar place against an unknown threat was risky and dangerous.Slowly, the narrow lane came to an end, and they reached a small gray gate, beyond which it was already difficult to make anything
Melano’s apartment, the building yard, and security room were completely crowded with police officers. From the footage of the outside cameras, the investigators determined that a man dressed in black, whose appearance matched the man captured on the security cameras, Noah, had climbed from the roof of Melano’s house directly onto her balcony, broken the glass, and entered the apartment that way.Alistair had gone pale with anxiety and could barely breathe, but at the same time, he felt some relief because it had been confirmed that Melano had not abandoned him, as she had a year ago."I’ll find you. I’ll find you soon, my love," he thought, speaking to the woman he loved more than the universe, in his mind.Just then, a message arrived on his phone from Melano’s number.“How are you, dear Alistair? You’re wasting your time. Melano is with me, yes, and I took her with the intention of starting a family. Do you know what that means? According to Georgian tradition, she is already my wi
Alistair woke up early in the morning. When he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Melano's bare shoulders and incredibly beautiful back. She was wrapped in a thin sheet and sleeping peacefully. It was the first time Alistair had woken up in the morning beside the woman he loved. A sweet shiver ran through his body, and his heart filled with love. He gently kissed Melano on the shoulder and got out of bed.Light was coming through the window, so he quickly drew the curtains to keep it from waking her. Alistair wasn't in a hurry to leave, but he had something to deal with concerning Bonnie, so he had to go. He called David and asked him to come pick him up by car. He would leave his motorcycle outside Melano's building so it would look as though he had never gone anywhere. It was a clever plan, but Alistair had no idea that Noah had a direct source feeding him information.David poured himself a cup of coffee, and around the same time, Melano woke up too. She went straight to t
Melano lay in a scented bath while soft, soothing music played in the background.Ever since Alistair's visit to her office, her mind had been in absolute turmoil. Grief tore at her heart, while her pragmatic half bitterly scolded her: "How could you ever fall in love with him?" But her heart told her something else. Deep down, she knew Alistair was the man meant for her, and she would never, ever be able to forget him.Alistair briefly explained to the building's security that he was heading to Melano's apartment, and they quickly understood there was no need to announce him. He approached her door with cautious steps, paused to listen for anything suspicious inside, and then pressed the doorbell in one long, continuous ring.Melano didn't hear it at first, which sent a wave of anxiety through Alistair, he knew she was home, and why she wasn't getting the door? He began ringing more frantically, pounding with aggressive urgency; a moment more, and he would have broken down the door.
