Chapter 3

He grinned smugly. "Now I own exactly the same number of shares as you.

"As long as more than half the shareholders support me today, I'll become the new CEO of Setford Group.

"Oh, I've already decided the first thing I'll do after taking office. I hate the name Setford. How about changing it to Nolan Group instead?"

Seeing his arrogant face, I was once again shocked by Julie's ruthlessness.

On her 18th birthday, I had given her half of my shares.

It was my gift to her. It carried all my love for her and all the hopes I had for her future.

Yet today, all of that had become the weapon she used against me.

When Julie met my shocked and furious gaze, guilt flashed across her face.

For a brief moment, she looked like she wanted to say something. But when she looked at Timothy sitting beside her, the guilt disappeared instantly.

She opened her purse and took out a check.

"Uncle Liam, I'll buy your shares for twice the market price. Don't be greedy.

"This money is more than enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life."

I was so angry that I laughed.

She had handed the company I spent my whole life building to the man who destroyed her mother's life, and now she was telling me to be grateful.

How ridiculous.

"A former bar escort who never even finished elementary school wants to be CEO of Setford Group? Does he honestly think he's qualified?"

Timothy's face instantly turned red. A vicious look flashed through his eyes.

He turned toward the security guards. "Can't you tell he's here to cause trouble? Throw him out! Or do none of you want your jobs anymore?"

The guards exchanged helpless looks. Finally, one of them stepped forward.

"Mr. Setford, please leave on your own. We really don't want to force you."

Another guard sighed. "Yeah, Mr. Setford. This is a conflict between upper management. Please don't drag us into it. We rely on this paycheck to feed our families."

Hearing their pleas, I clenched my fists so hard my knuckles turned white. I was furious.

But Timothy only became more arrogant.

"Mr. Setford, if you refuse to leave, these guards will be fired for neglecting their duties. And I guarantee they won't find another job anywhere in Jesselton."

That was the last straw. I lunged forward and grabbed Timothy by the collar.

But before I could do anything else, the two huge bodyguards behind him rushed over. One kick sent me flying backward. I crashed onto the ground.

Timothy shouted angrily. "Beat him! If we don't teach him a lesson today, he'll still think I'm the same Timothy from 15 years ago. The same man he could bully whenever he wanted!"

The two bodyguards immediately surrounded me. Their fists and kicks rained down on me without mercy.

I was beaten until I collapsed on the ground in front of all the employees in the company.

I couldn't even crawl back to my feet.

Meanwhile, Julie stood behind Timothy the entire time, watching everything unfold with indifferent eyes.

Julie brought me back to the CEO's office.

She took out the first-aid kit and gently dabbed medicine onto the cuts on my face.

At the same time, she said softly, "You're not young anymore, so why are you still this stubborn? Wouldn't it be better to take the money and retire peacefully?

"Uncle Liam, don't you understand yet? The one who isn't loved is the extra person. So what if you and Mom were legally married? She never loved you."

Not even Julie. She just stood there blankly, staring at me.Timothy lay sprawled on the ground in humiliation. He glared at me viciously."Liam! You're shameless! You're despicable! I'll never let you get away with this!"I sneered. "You should worry about your own problems first."As soon as I finished speaking, two police officers walked into the conference room."Mr. Timothy Nolan. We suspect you were involved in the car accident that caused the death of Ms. Sophie Langdale 15 years ago. You need to come with us for questioning."Timothy's face instantly lost all color. He began struggling frantically."That's nonsense! I was a victim too! How could I possibly be involved?"He pointed at me and shouted. "This is all Liam's doing! That hypocrite bribed you! I'm going to file a complaint!"The officers ignored his yelling. They calmly lifted him back into his wheelchair."You have every right to file a complaint. We won't interfere. But you need to come with us right now."Realizing

But I was faster. I turned on the projector in the meeting room. The adoption papers appeared on the big screen."I adopted Terrance 20 years ago. Everything was done legally. If anyone has doubts, feel free to verify it."Julie suddenly broke down. She pointed at Terrance and shouted."So you adopted him 20 years ago! So from the very beginning, you never really wanted me to be your successor!"Dad was right! You’re fake! You never truly loved me!"My gaze turned cold."You think I didn't love you?"Julie, Terrance was originally someone I prepared for you. He was meant to be your future husband."You were my most precious daughter. I didn’t trust anyone else to protect you. So I planned everything from the beginning."But now it seems I didn't need to. And you don't even deserve Terrance."Julie's emotions slowly calmed down. Her eyes were filled with pain and regret."Dad..."She whispered. But I cut her off immediately."Don't call me Dad anymore. I am not your father. Your father

"I’ll give you three more minutes. If you don’t leave, I’m calling the hospital."She thought I would panic and back down. Instead, I simply made a polite “go ahead” gesture.Thinking I was bluffing, she picked up her phone and called the hospital."Hello, Dr. Lambert. This is Julie. I want all treatment for Jacob Setford to stop immediately."There was a pause."What? Jacob has already been transferred? Why wasn’t I informed?"She hung up, her face turning ugly as she looked at me."So what if you moved Grandpa? You already signed and stamped the share transfer agreement. It’s too late to regret anything now!""Stamped?" I calmly placed the document on the table in front of them."This has my signature. But the stamp on it is yours. So this agreement is invalid."Julie froze. She grabbed the document and looked closely.Only then did she realize the company seal on it was hers. She had purposely made a personal stamp that looked very similar to mine. She used it to show everyone how c

"That wasn’t our agreement. We said you’d be CEO and hold the shares, but I would still run the company."You don’t understand business at all. How could you possibly manage a company this big?"Timothy ignored her completely. He looked around the room with a sneer."I knew it. You people are just like Liam. All of you look down on me."But it doesn’t matter. I own the most shares now. That means I have absolute control."From this moment on, Setford Group belongs to me."Anyone who wants to stay can follow my orders. Anyone who doesn’t agree can get out right now."Just then, the conference room door was pushed open."Timothy, you’re really full of yourself."But are you sure you actually own the most shares in Setford Group?"The moment I appeared at the conference room door, both Julie and Timothy’s faces changed instantly.Timothy’s expression darkened as he shouted at me."Liam, you have no shame! You’re still here?"Setford Group has nothing to do with you anymore. This isn’t a p

Julie and Timothy sat proudly in the main seats of the conference room. They looked confident, like they had already won.A secretary came forward and poured drinks for them.Timothy took a sip, then immediately frowned in disgust."What is this trash?" he snapped."How can you serve something this bad at a Setford Group shareholders meeting?"Did someone in the secretary department take bribes and switch the drinks?"The secretary quickly shook her head. "No! We didn’t do anything like that!"This is high-quality coffee! We’ve always served this at meetings, and no one has ever complained before!"Timothy’s face darkened."So you're saying I can't tell good coffee from bad coffee?"What's your name? Do you even want to keep your job?"The secretary turned pale. She looked helplessly at Julie for support.Julie waved her hand slightly, signaling the secretary to leave.Truth was, even Julie felt annoyed by Timothy’s attitude. She could clearly see the gap between him and Liam. And it m

Julie walked to the desk, took out another agreement, and placed it in front of me again. This time, her voice was calm."I suggest you sign it."If you won't think about yourself, then think about Grandpa."He's still lying in the hospital."The medical team treating him was hired by me. Since I can spend money to bring them here, I can also make them leave immediately."And with Grandpa's condition, I'm afraid he won't survive long enough for you to find another medical team."I was furious when I heard that."Julie, Grandpa saved your life! If it weren't for him, you wouldn't have lived to grow up!"But Julie had already been completely brainwashed by Timothy. Her sense of right and wrong had been twisted beyond repair."Liam, don't try to take the moral high ground and lecture me. You raised me yourself. I'm just as ruthless as you are."Back then, you built Setford Group with Grandpa and Grandma's help. But didn't you still kill Mom in the end? So you have no right to criticize me
