Angelica’s POV
My father of course shut the party down, and locked the estate up like a fortress, not allowing anyone in or out, until every single guest had been interrogated and accounted for. The guests that once had smiles on their faces from all the riches at the party now stood there in a single line, with either a sober or a confused look now on their faces, as they waited to see if they passed the exam that Selena was giving them all, as I sat there watching them from afar.
My parents had insisted that I head upstairs to my room, but I wasn’t going anywhere if the person truly was inside our home. Since I was the only one that had seen or sensed his presence, my argument to stay won, but of course with stipulations, I was made to agree too.
As my eyes looked at each guest in the line, not a single one of them stood out at me, and I knew that this was a waste of time, as it was clear that the person that I had seen was gone. My power that had been siphoned was now completely replenished thanks to tonight’s full moon, and I found myself on edge now knowing that someone had the ability to incapacitate me, so easily.
I had worked with Selena since the day my powers began to show themselves, and I was more than capable of defending myself in combat, but she had never worked with me in a situation like this. Hell, I honestly didn’t even know that it was even possible for a creature of this world to be able to siphon my goddess’ powers like that, without a drop of my blood being involved. But it was now clear that it was possible, and I had to find a way to protect myself from ever allowing this to happen to me again. Vulnerable was never a word in my vocabulary until now, and I hated the way it was making me feel, especially sitting here with my father’s men on guard waiting to protect me.
My eyes moved to the front of the line, where Joffrey and his parents were now being scanned by Selena, and my heart sank in my chest, as I worried that he might be somehow involved, seeming how kind he was to me. But something inside of me washed that worry away, as if I knew that this wasn’t possible, especially since he was the one that had saved me, by calling out for my father.
Unfortunately, in the light of what had happened, I didn’t blame him if he never wanted to talk to me again, but to be honest, I felt an emptiness in my heart thinking about it. Joffrey was the first person outside of the walls of this house, that I had actually talked to and made a connection with, and thinking about that connection with him being lost was painful, but I was used to being alone in this world.
Thankfully, Selena waved him and his parents through, clearing them of any involvement, and I couldn’t help but feel relief knowing that the kindness he showed me tonight was genuine. I watched as his parents and him were ushered out of the room, but unlike his parents who moved swiftly to leave, he began to show resistance, as he turned in my direction.
“I wish to bid Angelica good night.” He said to my father’s men, as he refused to leave the room, making his parents stop to plea with him, to leave at once, but Joffrey stood his ground against them.
Standing from my seat, just about to demand they leave him through, my father steps in and says, “Let him pass.” Shocking not only me, but Joffrey too, as both our heads turn to look at my father. “Wish her goodnight, but then you must leave.” He then tells Joffrey, who quickly makes haste, crossing the once dance floor to me.
My father’s men that were guarding me stepped to the side allowing him passage, and to my surprise when Joffrey reached me, he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into an embrace, as he whispers in my ear, “I am so thankful that you’re okay, but I can’t shake the feeling that this is all my fault.”
“No.” I said to him, pulling from his embrace, not wanting him to think that he had anything to do with this attack on me, but also wondering why he was blaming himself. “Why do you say that?” I now ask him, as I stared at him confused, but he just shook his head at me, like he was not at ease to say.
Unfortunately, I too was not able to tell him the truth, but I was thankful that he wasn’t looking at me with the look of distaste in his eyes, as I was sure after what he had just witnessed, he would run for the hills.
Finally, he broke his silence, and says to me, “Angelica, I truly enjoyed my evening with you, and I pray to our Moon Goddess to watch over you and to keep you safe. I wish our night hadn’t ended like this.”
He then leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on my forehead, before he went to turn away from me, but I caught his hand with mine stopping him, as I said, “Wait.” Turning back to me, I asked him, “Can we still be friends?”
A soft smile formed on Joffrey’s face, as he nodded his head to me, but our time was up, as my father’s men moved towards us, choking out what little space they had given us. Joffrey turned not wanting to cause anymore problems tonight, and made his way back to his parents, before he turned around and waved goodbye to me. Even though it was a small gesture, it meant something so big to me, as it was a sign that the friendship that we had formed tonight remained intact, and that I had a friend outside these walls of what I called my prison.
Angelica’s POV Relief washed over me that we were no longer in the heir’s game, but it was clear by the night sky that time had passed while we were in it. At first, I had no clue how Ambrogio had helped us out of it, but then my eyes landed on a woman in a cloak, and I didn’t have to see her face fully to know who it was. “Carla, what are you doing here?” I asked her, as Joffrey’s attention turned to her too. But Carla wasn’t the one to answer me, as Ambrogio says, “You aren’t the only one that has a witch as a longtime friend.” I knew that Carla was old, but I would have never imagined her to be that old, making me wonder now if she was just a witch or if Ambrogio had gifted her with immortality. “I thought you didn’t care for witches?” My father asks him as he moves to my side, staring at Carla, as if he was wondering if he could trust her. “I didn’t say that. I just have trust issues. P
Joffrey’s POV I could feel Angelica’s powers coursing through my veins like a ravage storm at sea, as I tried to control my thirst for more of her blood, but seeing her body so frail in her father’s arms right now, simmered the thirst within me. Alpha Bishop cautiously moved towards me, now knowing that my vampire side was showing itself, as he asks me, “Are you under control?” Shaking my head, I told him I was, as my eyes remained on Angelica, making sure that she was okay, because I would never forgive myself if she wasn’t. Just like myself, it was clear that she wasn’t worried about herself, as she tried to stand on her own, asking her father, “Is Joffrey, okay? I need to see him.” Alpha Jaxson’s eyes moved to look at me, before he says to her, “Joffrey is fine.” But that didn’t stop her from wanting to come to me, as she once again tried to break free from her father’s hold to get to me. Taking a deep
Angelica’s POV My Uncle Bishop and my father began to move around the ballroom trying each of the doors for themselves, but none of them would open, making me wonder if it was my turn again in this game the heir was playing with us. How many trials of fear was the heir going to make us face, and was this game he was playing with us ever going to end? Fear began to sink into me, that this was our hell, and that we were going to be trapped in it for the rest of eternity, as I stood in the middle of the ballroom floor, deciding on which door to pick. Letting go of Joffrey’s hand, I moved to the back of the ballroom to the door that led outside, hoping that it was the door that would lead us out of this hell of a game. But as I took a deep breath, and placed my hand on the handle, I realized quickly that the handle wasn’t moving, making me wonder what game the heir was playing with us now. I wanted to scream out in frustration, but I held it
Angelica’s POV I knew by the look on Joffrey’s face that he was scared to see what lay on the other side of the door, but we had no other choice, as the debris continued to fall through the hole, pushing us to face it. This time my father grabbed a hold of my arm, pulling me in front of him, as Joffrey finally opened the door and stepped inside. Stepping through the door to join Joffrey, I wondered what his worst fear could have been, but as my eyes focused on the room around me, I was stunned to see where I was standing. Joffrey stood in silence with his head down in the middle of the ballroom at my parents’ house, as if he was ashamed to look at anyone, making me wonder why or how the night of my ball could have been his biggest fear. It was definitely one of my own, because it was the night that the heir had first violated me by siphoning my powers, but I didn’t understand how it was his. “Well, isn’t this interesting.” My father says
Angelica’s POV As my father opened the front door, a white light beamed into the cabin, before my father stepped into the light, without a second of hesitation, knowing with what I had just said, that the door would lead him to my mother. But as we stepped through the door, unfortunately my mother was nowhere in sight, and we stood in what looked like a basement, with a huge hole in the floor above our heads. A growl instantly radiated from my father, and my Uncle Bishop quickly moved to his side to comfort him, knowing that my father failed to take us to my mother, even though I know he tried. It was clear his darkest fear still lay there the night he thought he had lost my mother to Tyler, and that was where the heir had taken us with the little game he was playing. “There is still hope. We are now inside the house. Maybe the heir is somewhere inside the house with them.” My Uncle Bishop tells my father with hope, but I knew that was a
Angelica’s POV “What the bloody hell?” Joffrey asks, as he quickly moves to my side, while my father says, “This is impossible.” As he races towards the window, peering outside. “I don’t understand. How are we in my cabin?” My Uncle Bishop asks, while he begins to look around, moving from room to room, as if he was looking for something. Moving away from the window, my father begins to shake his head, and I can see the dread in his eyes, thinking that we were hundreds of miles away from my mother, but in reality, I knew we weren’t, or at least I prayed we weren’t. A loud click came from behind us, making us all turn to see my Uncle Bishop coming out of his bedroom with a shotgun in his hand, while he says, “This mother fucker wants to play games, then games are what we will play.” Just as those words came from his lips, there was a knock on the front door, making us all turn to now look at it, as a voice e
Angelica’s POV The brighter light that we had seen at the end of the tunnel we were in only proved itself to be a mouth that opened to three new tunnels and a choice that needed to be made. My father and my Uncle Bishop stood before the three tunnels arguing with each other on which tunnel they should take, knowing that time was precious, and my mother was somewhere here on the grounds, or even beneath the ground like we were. Stepping away from Joffrey, I moved in front of the first tunnel, closing my eyes, as I opened my senses, trying to sense the heir’s powers, as I focused down that particular tunnel, but felt nothing. Slowly, I moved to the next tunnel doing the same thing as they continued to contemplate which tunnel to take, but I still felt nothing, making me think that I was stupid to think that I could figure this out for them. I was about to give up, as my father was insisting on taking the first tunnel, when I felt a slight
Angelica’s POV Stepping through the front door, it didn’t take me long to realize that we had just stepped through a portal, and we were no longer above the earth’s surface, but in what looked like a caving system, deep beneath the ground. “What the hell?” Joffrey said, as he held my hand tightly in his, pulling me back towards him, while the two of us took in our dimly lit new surroundings. Just up ahead of us, I faintly could make out the silhouettes of my father and my Uncle Bishop, as the two of them move towards a more predominant light at the end of the tunnel we were now standing in. Taking a deep breath, I began to slightly cough, as the air seemed stale to me, like it had no ventilation to the fresh air on the earth’s surface, making me wonder how deep beneath the surface we were. Knowing that we needed to keep up with my father and my uncle, I went to take a step forward but found myself reaching for the wall of
Angelica’s POV “Let’s keep going.” My father said turning as he began to walk towards the front gates, with my Uncle Bishop by his side, as Joffrey stood there waiting for me along with Ambrogio. I knew I couldn’t keep this revelation to myself, as I was now sure that the telus the heir had still was working at full capacity. If I let all of them walk in there without this knowledge, I was possibly leading them all to their deaths, and I couldn’t do that. “Wait!” I called out, stopping my father and my uncle from taking another step, as they both turned and looked in my direction. Now that everyone was staring at me, I had to find a way to tell them that the telus was still working, without telling them everything that I now knew, which was going to be hard to do. “Something isn’t right.” I finally said, making Joffrey move closer to my side, as if he was trying to protect me from what I was about to say.
