RHEA

Signing the contract made it feel like a burden had been lifted off me. For unknown reasons, it felt like it came with a sort of inexplicable protection. I didn’t know who he was or what this decision would bear, but for a fact, I knew I hadn’t made a wrong decision for the baby.

It had been more than twenty-four hours since I signed the contract, and he hadn’t been in my room ever since. The only people who came into my room were the maids, and they only came to drop off meals each time. At this point, I was afraid I would lose my shape before giving birth.

Then a knock came on the door, making me raise my head. “Come in!” I said.

The door opened, and a man walked in. Behind him was a maid whose head was bowed, with both hands folded in front of her.

“Good morning, Rhea,” he greeted, unsmiling.

My eyes wandered over him. I hadn’t seen him since I got into this house. Who was he?

As though he could tell what I was thinking, he said, “My name is Darian. I’m the Alpha’s… sorry… I’m Travis’s friend and assistant,” he mumbled, still expressionless.

“Oh,” I simply muttered, unsure of what I was supposed to respond to the introduction.

“He asked me to bring your personal maid to you.” He pointed at the maid behind him. “She will be at your beck and call henceforth. He said you cannot trust anybody else except her.”

The maid stepped forward and raised her head for the first time. Well, it only lasted for a brief second because she didn’t waste much time lowering her head again.

“Good morning, ma’am. My name is Irene, your personal maid. I will be at your service 24/7,” she introduced, and I nodded.

“Well, I don’t think I need a personal maid. I can do everything myself,” I said, diverting my attention to Darian.

“I’m sorry. I have no intention of taking orders from you, and you have no choice but to keep a maid with you because that’s what Travis wants. Do not forget you are with his baby.”

“Of course, Darian. I know I’m with his baby, but that doesn’t mean I have no thoughts of my own. I don’t think I’ll be comfortable having a maid to myself,” I countered almost immediately. “I know he’s trying to protect his baby, but that doesn’t give him the right to make me feel uncomfortable in the process. That could even hurt the baby more.”

He stared at me cautiously for a few seconds. Then he blinked and tilted his gaze to Irene. “You have to convince her to take you as her maid. Remember Travis’s condition,” he said emotionlessly, then turned and strolled out of the room without taking her along.

I was shocked. What were they doing—making Irene stay in my room until I had a change of mind?

“Darian! Why is she still here? Take her with you!” I shouted, but it all fell on deaf ears.

As soon as the door closed, Irene went down on her knees. “Please, don’t reject me. Save me, ma’am. Please, accept me as your maid,” she pleaded, her voice shaky.

My eyes widened, and my mouth opened, but I couldn’t say a word. This was more of a call for help than an attempt to change my mind. There was more behind her plea, but I couldn’t find that out from her. That much was certain.

“Okay, Irene. Be my maid,” I agreed and smiled.

Her dead eyes regained life when I said those words. Her orbs lit up, and her lips curved into a smile. “Thank you, ma’am. I owe you my life,” she said.

I paid little attention to her statement about owing me her life. I thought she said it out of gratitude.

At the same time, a knock came on the door, followed by Darian’s voice. “Come down for breakfast after accepting her as your maid. Travis is waiting.”

He had been waiting by the door all along and was definitely spying on us. One thing I had noticed about the people around here was their inconsistency. I had a feeling that something wasn’t right about everything happening, but I couldn’t yet say, “This is what it is.”

RHEAGosh! I think this particular man would be the reason I will keep having dirty thoughts.I opened my eyes when I heard the creaking sound of the door, followed by footsteps. I saw him walking toward me with his hands in his pockets—face carved from stone and abs refined. He was the perfect example of a perfect gentleman, except that he didn’t look gentle but vicious.“What’s your decision? Do you want us to do it peacefully, or do you prefer the hard way?” he asked, indifferent. His eyes towered over me, unreadable and dark. My throat burned with uneasiness. I could die under that gaze.Squeezing my grip on the document, I swallowed the trepidation in my throat and lifted my head. “I’ve read the contract, and it’s better in a way,” I muttered. “But I have my own conditions to add.”Something flickered in his eyes at my statement, but it vanished before I could name it. Was it pride? Danger? Admiration? Shock? He folded his arms. “Hmmm… bargaining with me?” he asked, resting his b

GENERAL“Mr. Daniel… I… I don’t think this is for me,” Phoebe stretched a white envelope forward with a smile. Her eyes flickered with fear and anxiety. The man didn’t raise his head from the keyboard and monitor. “I’m sorry, Miss Phoebe. It’s for you. The management is surprised that you could make such silly mistakes. You almost cost the hospital everything they’d ever worked for,” Mr. Daniel responded.Phoebe’s hands shook, her lashes quivered, and she scoffed in disbelief. Her eyes glistened with tears—the ones she wouldn’t let out in front of others. “But… it’s just a mistake. I can apologize to the client. We… we can always try the insemination one more time,” she stuttered, her smile growing thin.Mr. Daniel raised his head for the first time. When Phoebe saw his expression, she knew at that moment that everything had slipped from her. She had lost her job, and it wouldn’t be restored no matter what. “Miss Phoebe, do you know who you messed with?”Hesitantly, she bit her bottom

TRAVISShe stared at me as if she’d never seen a wolf standing on two legs. This was one of the reasons I didn’t really like humans. They were not as smart as we, werewolves. We’d hidden among them for centuries — our laws were clear: no interference, no exposure. Yes, we cohabited, but ninety percent of them didn’t believe werewolves really existed. She was with my pup, and that made her mine until the child drew its first breath. She dared to say to my face that she could abort my child? The words hit like iron. She had no idea she’d just challenged a wolf to his face. She didn’t know where she was, yet she dared to speak without control. If she were one of us, she’d already be on her knees begging for mercy. After leaving her room, I went straight to my study, slumped onto the couch, boots thudding against the table. I brought out a cigarette and lit it. Smoke curled into the lamplight, sharp and bitter. It helped me think — or at least, forget. Just as I put it between my lips, th

  • Surrogate By Accident, Bond By Fate   Chapter 3

~RHEA~It was tough and terrifying. I kept having scary dreams and seeing scary pictures.I was drifting in and out of my sleep, gasping whenever those scary dreams or pictures appeared again. After struggling with the imaginary force that was holding me down, I jerked from my sleep and sat up. My breath was unsteady and heavy. My eyes wandered over the room while I was still fighting with my unstable breaths. For a moment, I paused when I discovered that there was something wrong.Yes! Something was wrong. This didn’t look like my place or my father’s place. Where was I?My heart began to race fast when the reality hit me. The last scenario before I passed out rewound in my head. I saw a male silhouette. The vision was blurry, but I could tell he was masculine because of his sturdy build and muscles. Was he a bad man? Had I been kidnapped by him?I clutched my body tightly and squeezed every part of me just to be certain I hadn’t been groped or injured in my sleep. If he wasn’t a kid

~RHEA~Phoebe’s statement was a shock to me. It dropped like a bomb, scattering my senses. I couldn’t form a logical utterance in my head.“Wh… What do you mean by that, Phoebe? You mistakenly inseminated me? Is that your new way of joking with me?”My heart thumped faster. A part of me wanted to believe her statement, but it would be dangerous—dangerous to know that I was really pregnant with an unknown child.“Listen to me, Phoebe. I know you want to brighten up my mood, but this is not the time to joke. The joke you just pulled is expensive. If I didn’t know how professional you are, I would have believed you…” A few bubbles of chuckles escaped my mouth. I was trying to suppress the surging fear within me.She must be joking, right? The Phoebe I knew wouldn’t make such an expensive mistake. She had never made such a mistake. Even when half-asleep, she would perform her duties without loopholes.“I am sorry, Rhea. I am really sorry. How it happened remains a mystery to me. You know
