Punishment For Breaking Rules

Knight’s hands started trembling and Bright tightened his grip on his hand before following Victor to the basement.

The basement was nothing but a hall with pillars in it. Victor underlings were stationed inside while a man in forties to fifties sat kneeling on the floor. He was badly beaten with bluish bruises all over his face. His skin was raptured and his white shirt underneath black coat was covered in blood.

Knight hugged bright arm as they walked closer to the table set beside a pair of sofas.

Victor grabbed a gun placed in the table's drawer and loaded it before handing it to Bright. “You just need to point this at him and pull the trigger.” Victor gestured to the injured man.

“Please spare me, please don’t kill me,” the man started begging.

Bright didn’t grab the gun and just stood there while Knight hid behind him.

Victor placed the gun onto the table and slid it towards Bright. "Do it.”

Bright looked down and clasped his hands in front of him. “Father we won’t make another mistake.”

Victor approached them and grabbed Knight’s hair violently dragging him away. He slapped Knight hard across the face twice that he started screaming.

Bright lapped at them trying to snatch him out of Victor’s grip, but he was no match for Victor's strength.

Victor threw Knight onto the floor and Bright hurriedly took him in his arms. Knight was trembling and whimpering.

“ I never said that you can touch him,” Victor’s voice was sharp. "Grab the gun. Or want me to make you grab it?”

Bright glanced at Knight’s reddened and swollen face and stood up. He grabbed the gun with his shaking hands and slowly pointed it at the man who was sitting at two metres distance. The men started begging once again.

“Father please let it slide this time,” Bright’s voice cracked as he looked at Victor. "We will never make any mistakes please.”

Victor grabbed Knight’s hair once again and Knight started screaming out of fear. Tears started streaming out of Bright’s eyes, his hands trembled, the gun pointed towards the man but his eyes were fixed at the Knight getting beaten.

He was sobbing at this point and hysterical screams of Knight that filled the hall tore his heart. He closed his eyes and pulled the trigger.

The gunshot that resonated inside the basement swapped man’s pleas with a grunt before he fell to the ground with a thud.

Victor let go of Knight and he crawled away from Victor.

The gun fell down from Bright's hands as he looked at the man lying on the floor, blood seeping out of his body. He was breathing shakily. For a moment he couldn’t get a grip of himself. Knight’s cries soon made him turn to him and he ran towards Knight taking him in his arms. Bright could feel his body trembling.

“Go up.” Victor settled down on the sofa. “Clean this up,” he instructed his underlings.

“Yes Boss.”

Bright supported Knight to get up and climb the stairs. Their room was side by side upstairs.

 Bright cupped his face. "Go to your room, I will be there in a moment.”

Knight hugged him tightly. "Please don’t go, I am scared.” He could feel Bright’s body going numb slowly.

Bright patted his back. "I am going to grab a first aid kit, your face is injured. I will be back in a moment.” He pushed Knight away and disappeared behind his room’s door.

He collapsed onto the floor as soon as he entered his room gasping for air and the scene played in his head. He hugged his knees hiding his face into his legs. His muffled sobs couldn’t be heard outside.

Knight leaned against the bed on the floor in his own room, his eyes fixed at the door for too long now but bright hadn’t come yet.

Click! Clack!

The door opened and shut behind Bright who was holding onto the first aid kit. He noticed that Knight bruises had turned blueish and his face was much more swollen than earlier.

“Are you feeling any pain?” He settled down in front of Knight.

“My ears hurt.” Knight looked into his eyes.

His eyes had changed, whether it was eyes colour or brightness that had disappeared, something about his eyes had changed.

“What about your head?” Bright’s voice was stiff.

“It hurts.”

“Take these pills. We can’t ask Father to take you to the hospital." He grabbed the water from the table and gave it to him.

“Now let me treat your wounds.” Bright took a cotton swab and pressed it gently against his face.

“Brother, do you think that man is dead?”

“He is.” bright expressions remained the same.

“Does that make you a murderer?”

Bright froze at his words, breath trapped in his chest before he let out a sigh, “yeah.”

“Why do you think father did that?”

“Because he is a mafia. Gangsters are just like that.” Bright grabbed his shoulders. “That’s why you shouldn’t make any mistakes.”
