Serena’s POV

The small brown prescription bottle was tucked under a stack of folded linen at the back of my nightstand drawer, exactly where I had left it the night before.

I sat on the edge of the bed with the curtains only half open, letting rays of morning light fall across the room.

The bottle felt almost weightless in my palm. Elena’s name was printed neatly across the label, along with instructions I had already read so many times I no longer needed to look at them.

I turned it over once

  • Sweet Revenge, Mr. CEO   Chapter 106: Against all odds

Serena's POVWhen Killian originally told me "let's get to work," a ridiculous, fleeting part of my mind hadn't expected him to mean literal work. But I quickly reminded myself who he was. Even back then, Killian Rhodes was a man consumed by his own ambition, and today was no different. We sank into standard compliance revisions and distribution spreadsheets for hours, grinding through data until he had to step out for a series of back-to-back executive meetings, leaving me to wrap up the remaining strategy integration with Louisa.By the time Louisa and I were putting the final touches on the quarterly projections, the high arched windows of the office had turned completely dark, reflecting the harsh fluorescent lights above us. I casually reached for my phone on the desk, my thumb flicking across the blank screen. Around this hour, Dominic used to call to check in, to ask how the day had gone or tell me he was heading home. But after the sharp, snapped exchange we had earlier—when I

Serena’s POVThe small brown prescription bottle was tucked under a stack of folded linen at the back of my nightstand drawer, exactly where I had left it the night before.I sat on the edge of the bed with the curtains only half open, letting rays of morning light fall across the room. The bottle felt almost weightless in my palm. Elena’s name was printed neatly across the label, along with instructions I had already read so many times I no longer needed to look at them.I turned it over once between my fingers. Then the bedroom door flew open.“Mommy!”My hand moved before I even thought about it. I pushed the bottle under the duvet and shifted my thigh over it just as Annika came racing across the rug.Her school uniform tie was slightly crooked, one sock sat lower than the other, and the ribbon in her hair had already begun to loosen. She launched herself at me with enough force to make me rock backward on the mattress.“Mommy, hi!”Her arms squeezed around my waist. She smelled

  • Sweet Revenge, Mr. CEO   Chapter 104: When you know

Serena’s POVFor one ridiculous second, I became painfully aware of the faint scent clinging to the chair; something unmistakably Killian. I pushed the thought aside and pulled open the top-right drawer.Pens, notebooks, files. Nothing.I closed it and opened the bottom-left drawer. My breath stopped.A small navy box sat in the middle of the drawer against the dark velvet lining.I knew that box.My fingers tightened around the edge of the drawer.I knew the worn silver latch. I knew the tiny crease along one corner of the velvet. I knew exactly how heavy that box felt because I had held it so many times before. My hand moved before I could think better of it.I lifted the box from the drawer. For a moment, I simply stared at it.Then I opened the latch. The lid clicked softly.Morning sunlight spilled across the velvet. And there it was.My engagement ring. The cushion-cut diamond caught the light, throwing a sharp flash across the inside of the box.I stopped breathing.I knew eve

Serena's POVIt didn’t take long to find Vivian. She sat alone in a booth toward the back of the lounge, a wine glass resting beside her hand. A few loose strands of blonde hair had escaped the bun she usually wore, and although she was sitting perfectly upright, there was an unmistakable sense of sadness that clung to her like a second skin. The sound of our entrance drew her attention. She looked up.The moment she saw Killian, the tension seemed to leave her all at once. Relief softened every line of her face as she tried to move out of the booth.“Killian.” She smiled, “You came.”Then her gaze shifted and settled on me.And everything changed so quickly that it almost seemed unreal. The relief disappeared. Her smile faded before it had fully formed, and the warmth drained from her expression with such startling speed that even the air around us seemed to cool. She didn’t say anything.Neither did Killian.Standing beside me, I could feel the slightest change in him. His shoulders

  • Sweet Revenge, Mr. CEO   Chapter 102: We just might

Serena's POVKillian drove too fast on his way back to the office, so agitated he almost missed the entrance to the underground executive garage. The tires screeched against the concrete as he parked, and when he finally stepped out of the private elevator and into the top-floor suite, he looked like a man battling a storm inside his own head.My back was turned to the door. I was casually gathering my files, the heavy mahogany desk scattered with standard compliance drafts and quarterly reports. He pulled out the leather chair across from me and sat down, staring at me for three long, heavy seconds."How can you sit there acting like nothing happened?" he asked, his voice low and tight."What?" I said, keeping my tone light as I smoothed a page without looking up from my portfolio."How..." He sighed, dragging a heavy hand over his face, looking up at the ceiling before his dark eyes snapped back to mine. "Put the documents down and look at me, Elena.""Oh." I let a faint, unbothered

Chapter 87Serena’s POVKillian’s car rolled to a stop along the curb outside our destination. And for several seconds after the engine went quiet, neither of us reached for the door.Killian remained behind the wheel, one hand resting loosely against it while the other tapped once, then twice, against his thigh before falling still again. He drew in a breath, as though rehearsing something in his mind.“Elena.”His voice was more restrained than before, almost swallowed by the sound of the rain.I turned toward him.He didn’t meet my eyes immediately. Instead, he looked through the rain-streaked windshield toward the entrance of the lounge before finally glancing in my direction.“You don’t have to come inside,” he said. “You can stay here. I’ll only be a few minutes.”There was nothing unusual about the words themselves. It was everything around them. The hesitation before he spoke. The careful way he chose each sentence. The fact that he sounded as though he was trying to solve a

Killian’s POVThe gala was still going. That was the part that didn’t make sense. Three hundred people still laughing, still drinking, still moving through a room that felt completely different to me now, like a house after a fire where everything looks the same but nothing is. The music was still

Serena’s POV“You really outdid yourself this time, Serena. I have attended every Rhodes event for the past three years and this is by far the best one yet.”I smiled at David Chen, Rhodes CFO and head of partnerships, and raised my glass. “Three months of planning. Every detail matters.”“Three mo

Serena’s POV“I just want to say for the record,” Chloe said from the bed, watching me step into my heels, “that the Elena I know would rather eat glass than attend a work gala.”“People change.”“You keep saying that.” She sat up and crossed her legs. “Before the accident you wouldn’t even work at

  • Sweet Revenge, Mr. CEO   Chapter 3: The girl in the mirror

Serena’s POVThe first thing I noticed was the ceiling.White. Smooth. A water stain in the far left corner shaped like nothing in particular. I stared at it for a long time before I understood that I was staring at it, that my eyes were open, that I was somewhere.I turned my head.Machines. Tubes
