Penulis: Crimson Delay

Chapter 1

Penulis: Crimson Delay
Firecrackers exploded outside as a crowd pushed into my sister’s room, then froze.

Two naked bodies lay on the wedding bed.

After the shock hit, everyone turned to look at me.

Because one of them was today’s bride, my sister Lily Baker, and the other was my fiancé, Jackson Young.

The first to react was my mom.

She screamed, waking them both, then grabbed Lily by the ear and shouted furiously, “Lily, are you out of your mind? Today is your wedding day, and you do something this disgraceful? Do you have no shame?”

She slapped Lily a few times, forcing her awake.

However, there wasn’t a trace of shame on Lily’s face. Instead, a flash of satisfaction flickered in her eyes.

She suddenly dropped to her knees.

“Mom, stop hitting me. Jackson and I truly love each other. I don’t want to marry Mark. Let me marry Jackson!”

I noticed Jackson’s ears had turned red.

I knew he was awake, too, but he cared about his reputation. He kept pretending to sleep, pulling the blanket higher when no one was looking.

My mom was furious. “Lily, what nonsense are you talking about? Jackson is your sister’s man!”

“I’ve already slept with him, anyway. Everyone saw. If you don’t let me marry Jackson, I’ll jump into the river.”

Lily looked completely reckless, like she had nothing to lose.

Just then, someone rushed in. “The groom is only two streets away. The bride needs to get ready!”

My mom was on the verge of collapse. “Why didn’t you say anything earlier? Why do something this humiliating on the wedding day? How am I supposed to explain this to Mark?”

Lily pointed at me. “Just let Emma marry him.”

The moment I heard that, I realized my sister had been reborn, too.

We were twins. Because of our looks, matchmakers had been coming to our house nonstop since we turned eighteen.

To pay for our younger brother’s education and future marriage, our mother betrothed us to two families.

One was Jackson, the mayor’s son.

The other was Mark Hollander, the richest man in town.

In my previous life, although Jackson was the mayor’s son, he was unattractive, and his father was so honest that their family was even poorer than ours. Even the bride price had been borrowed.

So my sister chose Mark without hesitation.

However, her ending was miserable.

They divorced in less than two years. After that, Mark’s business kept growing until he became the richest man in the country.

Meanwhile, my sister’s life fell apart.

As for me, I married Jackson. He was a college graduate who entered a government position after graduation. In just five years, he rose from the bottom to the top.

I became someone everyone in the city envied.

So in this life, my sister chose Jackson without hesitation.

After hearing her words, my mom sighed and turned to me. “Emma, Lily has wronged you. But the Hollanders’ bride price already paid for your brother’s tuition. And with their background, we can’t afford to offend them.”

The Hollanders didn’t have a good reputation in town.

Mark’s father had killed someone and gone to prison. Mark dropped out after middle school and ran with a group of thugs. His mother rarely spoke and never went out, and his younger sister had a bad temper, nothing lady-like at all.

So despite their wealth, they could only secure the engagement with a high bride price.

Everyone was watching me.

They all knew I loved Jackson deeply and wanted to see how I would react.

Unexpectedly, I didn’t hesitate one bit.

I picked up the bridal veil and dress and walked into the inner room.

“Fine. I’ll marry him.”

When Lily came to find me, I already felt something was off. So I had Madeline go to Mark and call the police, and I told him about the secret under the Youngs’ persimmon tree.Mark had connections and a wide network. After asking around, he found out someone had seen me get into a car that headed toward the back hills. So he followed and came to save me.However, he still couldn’t understand why I knew the Youngs’ secret, and why Lily had said such strange things. With how sharp Mark was, I knew I couldn’t fool him.So I told him everything.By the end, even I felt a little uneasy. “Believe it or not, I really have lived two lives. It’s like a dream.”As soon as I finished speaking, I was pulled into a tight embrace again.I could feel his body trembling. I patted his back. “What’s wrong?”“How could she do that? How could she hurt you twice?”I realized he was angry because of what Lily had done to me.“I don’t understand why she became like this either.”When we were lit

Two days later, Lily came to me in a rush, saying our mom was sick and asking me to go to the hospital with her.I got into the car with her, but before long, I realized we had left the main road.I frowned. “Aren’t we going to the hospital? Where are you taking me?”“I’m sorry,” Lily said softly. My heart skipped. “What do you mean?”The car stopped in the middle of nowhere, in front of a small shack. When I saw Jackson walk out, I understood everything.I stared at Lily in disbelief. “You didn’t call the police.”She curled her lips. “If I did, wouldn’t he get arrested? I don’t want to lose him. I just want him to stop hitting me.”A lunatic.I never thought Lily could be so crazy as to do something like this just for status.Anger surged through me. “So you sold me out?”She looked innocent. “You were the one who told me about it. Don’t worry, Jackson said he just wants to talk.”I snapped, “You believe that? He’s killed someone before.”Lily shrugged, completely unconc

I steadied myself. “Reborn? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”However, Lily refused to let go of my hand. She dropped straight to her knees. “I know you are. If you weren’t, you wouldn’t have agreed to marry Mark so easily, and you wouldn’t have given him so many ideas. Em, please save me, help me.”Lily would only call me “Em” when she begged. We were twins, but because I was born a few minutes earlier, I became the older one.Our parents favored boys, so growing up, the two of us relied on each other.I truly saw myself as her older sister. I looked out for her in everything and always gave in to her.Even in my previous life, when Jackson had beaten me half to death, I still dragged my injured body out of the hospital and begged Mark for her when she wanted a divorce.Otherwise, with Mark’s temper, how could he have let her off with just a warning?I never expected that after everything I did to save Lily, she would end up resenting me and wanting me dead. All becaus

Lily immediately fell silent. Her memories of Mark weren’t good, and she clearly looked a little afraid.I knew that in our previous life, when they divorced, Mark had used certain methods to intimidate her. It was why, even after she fell into poverty, she never dared to trouble her ex-husband, who had become the richest man.Mark walked straight up to Lily and said something coldly in her ear.The color drained from Lily’s face. She clenched her fists tightly. “Mark, you b*st*rd!”Then she stormed out of the kitchen.I stood there, stunned, looking at him. “What did you say to her?”Mark shrugged. “I told her if she keeps talking nonsense, I’ll cut out her tongue.”For a moment, I was speechless until my mom called from outside, “Emma, stop cooking. Mark said we’re going to a restaurant.”I responded and started walking out.Mark strode over and grabbed my hand. “You believed her?”“What?”“The things she said.”I shook my head. “No.”“Then why do you look like that?”

Madeline’s eyes widened. “Really?”I nodded.First, I took her to the bathhouse for a proper wash. Then we bought her two new outfits to replace the dirty ones she’d been wearing. After that, we went to a hair salon and got her a neat bob haircut.Madeline stared at her reflection. It was as if she had become a completely different person. “Will he like me now?”I shook my head. “This is just the first step.”“What’s the second step?”“Go back to school. I asked around. He’s ranked first in his grade. If you want him to like you, you’ll have to rank first, too.”Madeline immediately deflated. “I can’t do that.”I smiled slightly. “I’ll help you.”From that day on, a new kind of harmony formed between me, Donna, and Madeline. On weekdays, I bought books for Donna, and she helped with housework and cooking. After meals, the three of us would sit in the living room. I tutored Madeline, going over problems with her, while Donna read quietly beside us.When Mark came home, t

  • Switch of Fate   Chapter 2

Mark ran a clothing business and often traveled south to source goods, so he was rarely home on weekdays. He got married mainly to find someone to take care of his mother and younger sister. He didn’t really care who he married. So when he lifted the veil and saw it was me, he didn’t react much. That night, he came into the room reeking of alcohol. I clenched my hands, about to speak, when I saw him pull ‌a large bag from the cabinet.“I’m leaving tonight for the South,” Mark said as he packed. Then he took out five one-hundred-dollar bills and handed them to me. “This is for the next month. Take care of my mom and sister.”I stared at the money, eyes wide.Back home, the living expenses for my whole family of six didn’t even reach twenty dollars a month.Seeing my reaction, Mark let out a short laugh and started walking out.I snapped out of it and called, “Mark.”He turned back, frowning. “Not enough?”Maybe it was because of his past running with rough crowds. Though he wa
