LOGINMarina had spent her life clawing against poverty, illness, and desperation. With her mother and brother gravely unwell and her family barely surviving, she makes a dangerous choice. To become a royal consort. Trading her body and freedom for the power to save the people she loves. It is not romance she seeks, but leverage. King Xanthanius was murdered by betrayal and brought back from the dead by a single, fatal error made during his killing. Immortal but incomplete, half of his life force was stolen, leaving his resurrection imperfect and his existence unstable. Determined to reclaim what was taken, he rules with calculated cruelty and a singular obsession. Restoring his immortality at any cost. When Marina enters his court as a consort, Xanthanius initially sees her as nothing more than a crowd to his space then a disposable pawn, useful for navigating political traps and accomplishing delicate tasks beneath a King’s notice. But Marina is not as expendable as he assumes. Her presence is an untold key to the missing half of his immortality. She is tied to the very power Xanthanius needs to survive. Bound by mutual exploitation, desire, and distrust, Marina and Xanthanius use each other to pursue their own ends until ambition blurs into intimacy and manipulation gives way to something far more dangerous. Because falling in love with Marina may cost Xanthanius the immortality he’s willing to kill for and Marina must decide whether saving her family is worth destroying the man she’s come to care for. #romantasy #darkromance #mistress #ruthlessking #steamy

Third person POV
They came too soon. Sooner than she had expected.
Than she had hoped.
Her home was no longer the safe haven as she always knew it. No longer impenetrable by her fortifications.
Soon, it would be the last thing she would see before crossing over to the land of the faithfuls. And that was because the pillars she had trusted, granted the leaks to the hands that wanted her head on a platter.
Now her desires were far from what you would think. She was not aiming to avoid this death anymore, it was inevitable. She only desired the gods made it quick and painless lest she suffer twice.
Her nature was given to her by the gods and if they wanted her soul back in return for her gift then she was more than willing to oblige.
She increased her pace as she ran to the kitchen. Unlike the ambience she was familiar with, there were no aromas of delicacies sweeping through the air today. Her home had been known to make the best dishes in the whole of Aspena.
Now it was a ghost town.
Surprise was very far from her. In fact, it would be a greater shock if she found someone doing the dishes or dicing some onions. She would swear the person had a quest for the afterlife more than she did.
The predictions had been foretold weeks ago, she knew it was only a matter of time before her family would be abandoned.
Some tried to stay to prove their loyalty, she in particular doubled her efforts to convince them that it would be of their better cheer if they left. What she did not expect was the people she tried saving, being the ones to submit.
There had been only one person trusted, and he was given a clear instruction.
“The day of my demise, they are in your hands”
It was a solemn agreement that she hoped he would keep even in her absence. Particularly in her absence because his loyalty was only to her husband.
A charming man who was no more. Dragged into this fracas by the offense of getting married to her. He was the easiest and the first to be exterminated. Barely being used to this life and having the stubborn courage of a mountain owl from the North, they ended him.
Crashing sounds from outside reminded her that they were close. Inside her home now.
She ran to the drawers and shelves, looking for the sharpest knife she could find and came across one that glistened against the ceiling lights.
Achieving her goal, she ran back out and up the stairs to where her daughters lay. One, barely a decade old; the other half of a dozen, but in the middle of an unavoidable horror.
The sound of the door being pushed open caused her older to jerk from her bed. These last few days had taught her to be at extreme alert.
“Mama?” She said, there was a crack to her voice, showing her sleep had been interrupted. Her little sister still snored away, oblivious to the ruckus.
“Baby open your eyes and give me your hand”
Her obedience was something worth emulating. She extended her full arm to her mother who wasted no time in slicing open her palm and that of her daughter’s.
A wince from the little girl’s mouth let her know that she might have cut too deep but there was no longer time to dwell on that.
She clasped her bleeding palm against her child’s own the blood mixing like a light coat of honey but rather a crimson color.
“Of my desire I give you my soul. Of my will I give you my blood. Of my choice I give you my life, take this part of me and be whole. May the gods approve of this trade”
She held it there for a few minutes, having what might be the last feel of her daughter and then she went towards the bathroom.
The sound of running water filled the room. She was washing down her hands and the sharp tool that had just seared layers of her skin.
When she was done, she came back and met with the confused and yet sleepy eyes of her beautiful offspring.
“Make sure you wash your hands and go back to sleep. Boron would come get you soon” after which, she placed a kiss on her forehead and pulled her into a hug.
“What about you mama?” Her confusion was still clear but she knew her daughter was smart enough to understand what was happening, she probably just did not believe it yet.
“Boron will let you know when he comes for you and your sister. Make sure you look after her” a weak smile danced on her face in stark contrast to her rapidly beating heart and she turned away.
It was time to face reality and surrender.
She walked out the door and surely, to her death.
PROLOGUE B
He held a dagger against his father’s chest, against the shouts of his mother and every other person who watched in dismay.
He saw how they stared at him like a ghost from Lerida had returned. There was disgust mixed with fear but none of them dared approach because they presumed they would be next in line for such treatment.
The tip of the dagger had already pierced the skin slightly. The white coat his father wore was soaking up with blood slowly.
“You will say it” he commanded his father whom he had cornered and had disarmed moments ago after a treacherous fight which the King had ordered the guards to not intervene.
Regardless, resurrected or possessed, he was still the prince.
“And you will spare me” the king said in return, silently pleading for another chance at life.
But Xanthanius’s blood rushed with a certain amount of adrenaline that he was scared his flesh would melt right off his bones.
He had waited for this moment and he would do whatever it takes to seal it.
“So be it” he whispered, because he did not want the implications that would follow from saying such words out in the open.
His father began to recite the rites which he was too enraged to hear. He saw blood and blood he would see.
“… May the gods approve of this trade of the crown” the final words of the rite left his father’s mouth and he grinned, a devilish kind of expression that made his father realize he had been played.
“I lied” was all he said before jabbing the dagger deeper into the King’s chest. The sounds of the bones crushing as the blade speared through to his heart filled him with satisfaction.
Soon enough, the king was dead with wide eyes of shock.
No one said a word about the scene that unfolded before them.
Xanthanius picked the blood stained crown from his father’s head and placed it on his.
“Welcome to a new reign of Aspena” he said proudly. The years of training paid off.

Now the story begins
”You think you have found the answer? Or has the answer found you?”Marina “I have barely gotten to know you. Trust is a far fetched concept” he said. Not saying no, but giving a reason it was not a yes.“You know my name is Marina Revlasor. You know I am the daughter of a haymaker, Koltko Revlasor. You know my family is poor and that is why I am here. You know my loyalty lies in the contract I have with your authority and I am under an agreement to not divulge anything from within this castle perimeters”“I also know you have green eyes, black hair, an attitude around me most of the time and an ability to disguise fear as unconcern” he added, the last part seemed too weird for him to have noticed.“I did try my best to withhold my attitude but I hate being commanded”He lifted a brow in slight amusement “The point is, this information is still not enough”“What else would you want to know?” I gave him some time to answer but when he did not, I carried on “If I share what I have with
”Hecates, Wreath and Diamond have aligned in the stars”Xanthanius Frankelis walked out feeling elated. Things were going well for her role. That was at least some good news in this country.I began last night to draft the response to Xialara. It was an invitation to her country which I duly accepted. The letter in front of me required finishing touches which I had been thinking of when the door to the meeting hall opened. It was Marina. Pushing the paper aside, I stood to my feet and watched her approach. “Your highness” she said with a curtsy and I was almost tempted to tell her to skip her pretense.“How are you feeling today?” “Better. May I have a seat?” “Definitely”She takes the chair which Frankelis had just left empty less than ten minutes ago and she turned to me.“Hope you are well too?” If it was a display of manners because I had asked her first or if she was truly concerned, I had no idea.I still remained standing.“Yes.” There was a reason she came here and I need
“To be or not to be, you have no choice in it”MarinaThe woman sat on a big rock that looked entirely out of place in the pine tree forest that we were in.“Here to show me more weird children in the middle of nowhere?” I asked. I knew these dreams meant something, but I am too tired of unanswered questions and puzzles.Every one had a mystery that I somehow had to take part in but no one was explaining it to me.“You went looking for something today. It would have cost you your life” she said as she stood from her rock of comfort and walked in my direction.“You can see into my reality?” The last time I had a hint she could was when we had the conversation where I called the castle my home and she reiterated the statement with sarcasm.A conversation I did not dwell upon.“No. Let’s go quickly, it’s about to start” and she led the way.I had a strong gut feeling that she was lying about her answer but I was exhausted. So I just followed her instead. We did not walk for long before w
”Materials, Methods, Men and Money, are all you need”MarinaThe smell of sweat, malt and barley struck my nose so heavily because I was unprepared. Subconsciously, my left hand flew to my nostrils to act as a filter. It did nothing to help by the way.Millions of conversations were taking place at the same time. The boisterous crowd was early deafening. Sometimes I wondered if they even heard themselves speak or if it was just a display where someone’s mouth moved and the rest laughed in unison just to get another bottle of beer paid for.I clutched the sack of coins in my right hand tighter, lest anyone dragged it away after noticing what it contained and I went straight for the bar.Usually, the stools directly in front of the bar were occupied by lone rangers. People who came to drink away their sorrows and soliloquize in semi-solitude.Colliding with a few half drunk men was normal when walking through Eclaris. I just had to make sure I did not trip and fall over from the moment
“Time goes by, even if you decide to work or play”Xanthanius I fixed the last button of my outfit and looked myself in the mirror. The words ‘a man’ and ‘a pub’ flooded my mind again and I gritted my teeth in annoyance. Those clues were leading me nowhere except getting frustrated.I considered
“The more you seek, the less you know”XanthaniusI was at the bottom of Farlick tower again. The bag of raw meat in my hand was beginning to soak through and anyone who looked close enough could see it was not moisture. Hopefully no one tried to.The salt of the sea was heavier now. The rains were
“A mated pair, a fated pair, a sated pair, makes the greatest pair”Marina“Are we going to the library now?” I asked Quala, after the suspicious healer had made her way back to the inner rooms with her balm jar and gave a little bow indicating we were done with the session.I slipped my sleeve bac
“Stealing becomes a skill when the victim is yet to train. When the victim is ready, stealing becomes a mission”Xanthanius I woke up quite late today and I knew so because what had woken me was the knocking on my door and not the rays of sunlight dancing into my room from the curtains. The thick
