Chapter 5 - Myra

I shuffled off of the stage as I made my way over to Raver, only to find that he'd disappeared. I search the dining hall until my eyes landed on two figures hurriedly brushing over to me.

I met them halfway, needing to be around some people I'm familiar with after the eerie feeling I'd gotten from that devil book. I could still feel the tingle of electricity that lingered at the tips of my fingers.

"Are you alright?" Remmi was the first to speak when they stopped in front of me, "That was crazy! I don't think anything like that has ever happened before. A white aura!?! The teachers must be freaking out by now."

I shrugged my shoulders as I allowed myself to be freed from the eyes of the prying crowd and into the safety of a deserted hallway.

"What do you think that was?" I asked as I leaned against the lockers behind me.

"I'm not sure. The school has a lot of secrets they keep hidden from the public. Rooms, books, passageways. You name it, they got it." Hunter rubbed at the stubble on his chin as he got deep in thought.

"Maybe this is a world-changing event that could alter the very fabric of the universe, changing the world as we know it."

A moment passed in silence.

"Or maybe they should be throwing that dusty-ass book away. For fucks sake." His charming smile was on full display as he waited for a reaction to his attempt at lightening the mood.

I shook my head as I dismissed his attempt at a joke. Nothing about this situation is funny. I'm not even one of them, I can't shift into a wolf, conjure spells, or any magic of the sort. I'm human, have been for my 17, almost 18 years of living.

Now I'm meant to believe that I'm not as human as I might seem. All because a glow-in-the-dark book with missing pages and spider webs said so?

"Where do they keep it?"

"The Tome? It's kept in the restricted area of the library." My eyebrows furrowed as I racked my brain for any indication of a library when I was roaming the halls early, "You aren't planning to go after it are you?" Remmi narrowed her eyes at me.

I remained quiet.

"Cause you just got here, and if you're caught in the restricted section that's immediate expulsion."

I remained quiet.

"If it's a stealth operation then I'm in." Hunter piped in.

I looked to Remmi, waiting for her response. She pursed her lips, looking between the both of us as she got deep in thought. She hesitated first before she gave out a huff, throwing a 'whatever' over her shoulder as she walked away.

I rushed over to her, smiling as I knew I could count on her to have my back in future situations. Hunter threw his arm over her shoulder which she quickly shrugged off.

"If we get caught, I'm throwing you guys under the bus. I'm not going down with you. Its ride and live with me." She informed us to which we both laughed.

We decided to call it a day and regroup at dinner to discuss a plan. Remmi and I went back to our dorm, us both unpacking her clothes seeing as I had none and was getting a little bored.

Once we were finished, we both lay on our respective beds, talking about anything and everything.

"So earth, is there anything about it that's different to this realm?" Remmi asked.

"Well for starters," I got my cell phone out of my pocket, "Something like this would actually work."

I threw the useless device onto my bed beside me.

"Ooh, can I see?" She said and got off her bed, not even waiting for my response.

She examined the device in her hand with pursed lips and eyebrows furrowed, "How does it work?"

"Electricity? A battery? I don't know," I said, to which she hummed in reply.

She opened her palm, showing tiny bolts of lightning bouncing between her fingers. A gasp escaped my mouth as I jumped up to my feet to get a closer look.

"Holy shit..." That was all I manage.

The phone lifted from her hand and hovered over to the other with the lightning, instantaneously reacting with the electricity, making the phone beep with the little battery icon appearing on the black screen.

"How do you use it?"

"You hold it up to your ear and talk, something about sound waves and the person on the other end hears what you say. Virtual conversation, one that doesn't happen face to face." I tried my best to explain.

"Interesting."

A thought suddenly came to mind," Do you think you could do that spell again? Possibly on a person this time? The floaty one."

"I don't know," came her hesitant response, "I haven't had much practice with that particular spell. I can only lift little things. I would hate for it to go wrong somehow."

"Is there something I could do to help you become more confident in your abilities?"

"Not something you could do, but what I could do. All I need is a couple of hours to really study the spell and then I'll be able to perform it on a larger scale, ie. You." She said all the while taking books out of her bag.

"Now I feel like I just gave you homework." I felt a little guilty.

"No no, don't feel bad. I was meant to perfect this spell seeing as it's one of the more basic ones. I just haven't had a reason to until now." She gave me a smile she went to work.

"Alright, dinner is in a half an hour. So just take a break and come join us to plan the operation." I reached for the doorknob.

"Okay! See you in a bit."

I left the room and attempted to make my way to the dining hall. I left the half-caste dormitory and entered the main building, accidentally walking into empty classrooms on my way before finally arriving at the hall. I reminded myself to remember the route I'd just taken to get here and found the table I was sat at earlier today.

I found Raver sitting there, writing some things down on a paper silently.

Before I even reached the table, his head snapped up to meet my eyes as he smiled at me.

"Hello, Myra." he breathed.

"Hey, Raver, what're you up to?" I asked taking a seat beside him and peering into the pages over his shoulder.

"That's lykan business, and as far as I remember, you're not a lykan." He playfully said, hindering the paper from my view.

I pursed my lips as I examined his features. He had brown, fluffy hair, eyes the color of two emeralds, and lips pinker than any rose I've seen.

He stared back at me, analyzing my features the same way he did the last time we were sat here.

I watched as his green eyes slowly turned to a mixture of emerald and hazel.

He shook his head before organizing the pages in front of him and sliding them to the side.

"What are you up to?" He asked.

"That's confidential to my small group of three people that you missed the opportunity to be a part of," A smile grew on my face before I realized something, "Where did you go earlier?"

"I had some urgent business I had to take care of, you needn't worry about that. What group are you talking about?"

"Well, I-" a silky voice interrupted me.

"Hey babe, How's it going?" Small arms slid around his shoulders as an equally small girl sat in the seat beside him.

She had dark brown hair which stopped just before her shoulders, her piercing red eyes glared at me as her red-colored lips turn up in disgust.

"I haven't seen you in so long, I thought you'd forgotten about me." She slowly inched closer to him.

A strange feeling swirled through me at their closeness, confusing me since I have nothing to be jealous of.

I don't even know this guy.

At all.

Yet here I am wishing this girl would fall off the face of the earth and land dead center in the sun, only to die a slow, fiery, painful death. I could only hope her ashes would incinerate themselves as well.

Weird.

"Hayley, you know we can't do this anymore," He quickly glanced towards me and smiled apologetically, or what I think is apologetic," I have my mate now."

Hayley scoffed before turning her attention to me, her scowl deepening.

"What makes her so appealing? She looks like every other girl here!"

My eyebrows furrowed as I realized she was talking to me.

"I'm not his mate," I said.

She looked me up and down before standing up abruptly. "Maybe not, but you're still the competition." She sent Raver a wink as she fixed her top, "And I never lose a competition."

She whipped her hair as she turned and walked in the direction from which she came. I watched as she sat at a table occupied by other red-eyed beings.

I turned my attention back to Raver who was already looking at me. My head tilts when I noticed the small smile playing on his lips.

"You should introduce your mate to your friends, or past flings. You're confusing a lot of people." His eyes flickered to me before turning them to the table.

"I will, once I tell her. I haven't got the courage to approach her like that as yet." His expression turned blank as he said this, gathering his pages and putting them away.

"Wouldn't she know already? I mean, if you could tell, shouldn't she be able to as well?" I pondered.

"That would've been the case if she was a lykan." He leaned forward in his chair, arms crossed in front of him as he stared back at me.

I mimicked his posture, "What is she then?"

"I can't tell you, it's-"

"Lykan business?" He chuckled while shaking his head.

"I was going to say it's a secret. If I told you then you'd know right away."

"I don't know anyone here, how would I know?" My eyebrows furrowed.

"She could stand out in any crowd. Her beauty is unmatched by any that I've seen and her personality is greater than any girl in this school, as far as I know. I don't know much about her or this school but I could tell she's amazing, and I honestly can't wait to know everything about her."

I smiled softly at that. He seemed like the short-tempered type, so for him to have someone to make him feel like the way he does right now, it's comforting somehow.

I almost feel happy for him.

Almost.

"So, tell me something about yourself," I said.

His eyebrows raised in surprise at my sudden change in the subject before returning his features to their relaxed state.

"What do you want to know?" He asked.

"Well... Where did you grow up?"

"Lykanthop, in the northern part of the kingdom," He answered.

"On the richer part of the kingdom? What was that like?" I rested my head in my palms as I propped my elbows on the table.

"It wasn't the best, I'm not going to lie. The people there are all pompous and ingenuine. They live on a high horse as the rest of the lykans suffer immensely living off the bare minimum. This changes once I become king."

My eyes widen as I hear this. "You're going to be king?"

He nodded, "I'm actually the king of the Alphas, this means that there are alphas for the individual 7 packs in lykanthop, but those alphas must answer to me. My father was the King of the Alphas up until last year but I took over. But the way the hierarchy works, I must have the blessing of the elders of the packs to fully become the King of Alphas and take on the role of the King. The king has more power than me, he can influence the pack members directly, and he doesn't have to send messages through the alphas, so he can overrule any changes I make. That being said, there's nothing I can do for Lykanthop other than put up with my father for a bit longer before I take over."

"I didn't realize that the life of a prince was so complex."

"Did you not have a royal family where you're from?" He questioned.

"We did, but I never really paid them much attention. I was never interested in what they had to do until now. Are there Royal families for other realms as well?"

"The first person you befriended in this school is like royalty, she's going to be the leader of her coven."
