Chapter 6 - Raver

"Are you serious? She never told me!" Myra exclaimed.

"I can't imagine she would. The leader of the coven is supposed to be the most powerful, the one who will take care of the coven's affairs and be first in line to protect it. She must have so many people relying on her and expecting her to be something great, she wouldn't want to add to that list," I said before pinching the bridge of his nose with a sigh, "It probably wasn't a good idea for me to tell you if she hadn't." I pondered, realizing my mistake. They seemed so close, I assumed she would've told her already

Then again, she's only been here a day.

"I'll act surprised when she tells me." She let out a cute giggle. "What about the others?"

"Well, there's the royal family of the faes. Their son is one of the people I grew up with. The princess of Lamia is Hayley, I was supposed to get married to her if I hadn't found my mate before I assumed the crown. But now that I have, the contract has been nullified and Hayley's pissed about it."

"And lastly there's the royal family of half-caste. Their traditions are different from the other realms, they don't have a fixed royal family but people are elected every 5 years. This is so that different opinions are viewed so that the best possible route of the way the kingdom should be run could be found to live in a safe, peaceful environment. They've been doing this for centuries and everyone they elected has been removed for being corrupt, for laundering money, or for discriminating against a certain type of hybrid."

"Which type is that?" She asked.

"The faes and seers. They are believed to be the abominations of all creatures because of a stereotype going around about how they are a combination of the two most evil creatures." I replied.

I checked my watch, getting slightly startled by the time as I was supposed to have finished dinner by now, and sent these orders to the guards at the Lykanthop rift.

"I have some things to deliver to Lykanthop, so I must leave. But it's been nice talking to you. I could take you around half caste sometime if you want to go site seeing before school starts on Monday." I offered, unwilling to leave but eager to take her on a date somewhere, anywhere.

"Can I bring Remmi as well?" She asked.

I forced a smile onto my face as I agreed. I would've liked it to be just us, but if she's more comfortable with there being another one of our friends then I'll have to put aside my feelings. For her.

I excused myself and made my way out of the dining hall and out of the school, bag in hand.

It didn't take long for me to get to the rift to Lykanthop as the school was also in the north. I nodded to the guards who didn't hesitate to allow me to pass through.

Once I was on the other side, I came face to face with Saber and his twin brother.

"Raves, how's it been? I haven't seen you in a bit son." He hugged me as I came closer to him.

I patted his back before a chuckle escaped my lips, "I passed through here earlier, old man. It hasn't been that long."

"Technicalities." He brushed the comment off before his eyebrows scrunched together, "Aren't you supposed to be in school?"

"I am, but I had a personal request for you." He nodded to show that he was listening.

"I need any news of a missing girl with these features to be sent directly to my room at Saint view. Are we clear?"

He fidgeted with the hilt of his sword as he looked at me hesitantly, "With all due respect, Raver, I can't do that. Orders from the king state that the reports are to be sent to the royal family so that they could be placed on the royal notice board at the entrance of their castle and then distributed to the rest of the kingdom." He narrowed his eyes at me.

"Well, now you have orders from me that say this specific report is not to reach the royal family." I took the paper I was writing on in the dining hall out of my bag and handed it to him.

"Raver, you know the King's orders hold more authority than yours." He read the features I had written down, "This is the girl Hunter came with." He narrowed his eyes suspiciously, "What did you do to her."

I brushed off his suspicious look and decided that negotiation was the only way I could get his assistance.

"Her name's Myra. She's my mate," he raised his eyebrows, "I can't have her going back home when I'm not even sure where that is. I can't and won't lose my mate after only just meeting her. Please, would you consider my request at least?"

" I could lose my job over this..."

"You are under the protection of the prince of Lykanthop, King of the alphas. No harm will come to you, your job or anything, and anyone relating to you." I reassured him."

"You're like family. I'd never let anything happen to you." I finished.

He pursed his lips as his eyebrows furrowed in contemplation. He sighed as he folded the page neatly and placed it in the pocket of his uniform.

"Alright. But only because I'm a sucker for young love. So you better treat her real good because I put my job on the line for this relationship." I smiled as I thanked him before making my way back through the rift and to Saint view.

Once I was within the walls of the school, I quicken my pace to my room, desperately needing the comfort of my sheets after the day I'd had.

Only, I was stopped by my ex-fiance right outside the entrance of the main building.

"What is going on here? I leave you alone for one minute and you fall for some... whore!" Hayley yelled as she folded her arms in front of her, stopping right in front of me and successfully blocking my path.

"Part of the deal was that if I found my mate I had the option to carry out with the marriage or be with my mate. You knew this."

"But I didn't think you'd actually choose someone else over me. You've known me since we were children, we've been together for so long. I love you! And still, you chose some girl that you met today over me. How could you?" Tears began to well up in her eyes as she stared into my own.

I rolled my eyes as I saw right through her act, "You're not fooling anyone with your act. I know you, you don't cry...at all."

I know all her family wants is the power we could give them if this marriage happened. They were the ones who set up all our playdates growing up.

She scowled as her initial plan had gone down the drain. "Still, what does she have that I don't. I'm much better looking than she is, probably smarter as well. I don't see the appeal-"

"You don't speak of her in that manner, you superficial bitch. What you lack is a personality. All you care about is power and fame, nothing less. What you lack, she has that could supply you both with more than enough so don't you ever compare yourself to her ever again, understood." I tried my best to remain calm as my wolf fought its way out. I'm only holding back since I could not lay a hand on a woman, something my mom had embedded in me in the years that lead to her death.

The least I could do is honor her.

"You. Don't. Even. Fucking. Know. Her!" She spat the words back in my face, eyes glowing with anger as she bared her fangs.

"You don't get to treat me like this, I've known you longer. I should be the one you chose." She growled, her red eyes darkening to a burgundy color.

"Yet you aren't, and you could accept it and live with it, or not. Either way, I don't give a shit. Just stay away." I brushed past her as I made my way to the blue house dorms.

"You're going to regret this. Mark my words." She yelled as I walked away.

"I'm sure I will," came my sarcastic remark.

I rolled my eyes as I walked up the stairs leading to the level my dorm was on. It was a quiet, still night with nothing but the sound of the birds and the crickets to keep me company as I opened my room door and threw myself onto my bed in exhaustion.

Sleep overtook my senses the second my head hit the pillow and just as fast as it came, it was gone when I felt the rays of sunshine hit my closed eyelids.

I turned my head in the other direction only to feel breathing on my nose and the scent of a dense forest.

"I told you to stop waking me up like this, you fucking creep," I said without opening my eyes.

"I know but it used to be so much fun when we were younger, you would jump out of the bed and scream that someone had broken in. Now you don't even bat an eyelash." Hunter sighed as he went over to the small kitchen in the corner of my room.

I let out a breath of frustration as I got out of bed and looked through my closet for some suitable clothes to wear to the outing I was going on with Myra.

Does she like black? I wouldn't want to wear it if she doesn't like it. Maybe she likes blue. She seems like a blue-loving girl to me. But then again she might love pink but just doesn't show it and-

"Just pick either one. It won't matter." I was brought out of my inner turmoil by Hunter as he placed the slices of toast on a platter and brought it over to me.

I chose to ignore him as I decided on the black. You can't go wrong with black.

"Look at what she's doing to you, man. All of a sudden you're smiling, you have a sense of humor and now you're putting thought into your outfit, like a love-sick high school girl. And she doesn't even know she's your mate!" He threw his arms up after putting the plate on my bed, sitting down next to it.

I rolled my eyes, "This reaction is common to those who haven't yet found their mate and are taking it out on the rest of the world."

He sent me a glare as he stood up to leave, stopping at the door only to tell me, "We leave in a few minutes. The girls are already waiting downstairs"

I was about to ask him how he knew of the outing when he slammed the door in my face, leaving me to assume that Myra invited him. I almost feel bad for pissing him off with my comment, all he's ever wanted was a mate. But he hasn't found her yet and he fears that he never will. Something he told me during one of our late night deep conversations.

I sighed, quickly showered, and changed my clothes, leaving my hair to air dry as I made my way to the main building where I found Myra, Remmi, and a calmed Hunter all waiting for me.

"I was trying to convince them to leave you but they insisted that we wait for you," Hunter mumbled.

I chuckled softly to which he glared as I walked over to Myra.

"Good morning," I said.

"Good morning! I hope you had a good night's rest because we're going shopping." She bounced excitedly.

"That I'm paying for, mind you," Remmi said.

"Why is that?" I couldn't help but ask.

"I'm not from here, so I don't have any money. At least none that would be acceptable in this realm." She replied.

I nodded as I mind-linked Remmi asking her if I could pay for Myra's findings.

"Okay, no problem" she responded.

"What are we talking about?" Hunter asked before we both rolled our eyes in response.

I turned on my heels and made my way to the school gates, waiting for them to open before walking out of the school compound. I make sure to remain on high alert as I know the way people feel about my father, they may take their hatred out on me.

Myra came to a steady pace beside me as we walked into the crowded city.

"I didn't want to third wheel Remmi and Hunter anymore. They're actually flirting with each other and it doesn't seem like either of them notice." She shivered as she looked back.

Only then did I see Hunter carrying Remmi's backpack, her facing turning a deep red as she laughed at something he said.

And he had the audacity to tell me all those things this morning when here he is, blushing like a little boy on a playground slide with a girl.
