Chapter 1

Author: Anonymous
When Morgan Sweeney came back, I had just finished clearing out every last thing in the house that had anything to do with our wedding.

Our wedding had been two days ago, but she had left me standing at the altar in front of everyone.

After spending the past two days with her first love, she had finally remembered that she had a fiancé.

Morgan placed a watch on the table. It was the one I'd once loved most.

She bit her lip, a trace of guilt in her eyes. "Anthony, you've had a rough few days. Take this watch as my apology. I know I was being too selfish. Are you still mad at me?"

She lowered her gaze. Her dark eyes glistened with tears and brimmed with unease and remorse.

In the past, whenever she looked at me like that, even my greatest anger would have melted away.

But now, I felt completely calm. Not even the slightest ripple stirred in my heart.

I had loved her, so everything she did and said had mattered to me. I cared when she ignored me. I cared when she treated me coldly. But now, I'd completely given up on her.

I flipped through the book in my hands without looking up. "Yeah, it's fine."

Morgan froze for a moment. The explanation she'd been about to give died in her throat.

She stared at me in surprise, and something strange flickered in her eyes. She probably thought I'd react the way I used to. She expected me to stay up all night demanding answers, then desperately and pathetically beg her to stay. Or maybe she expected me to lose control and make a scene.

Truthfully, when she dropped the ring and ran toward Leonardo Bloom, even I thought I'd react like a character in a TV drama and rush forward to fight for my place beside her. When the moment actually came, though, I was unbelievably calm.

On our wedding day...

Just as Morgan picked up the ring and was about to slip it onto my finger, the church doors opened.

It was Leonardo, her first love and the man she'd never been able to forget.

Five years ago, Leonardo had broken up with Morgan because he'd chosen practicality over their relationship. She had desperately tried to win him back, but nothing worked.

On the day Leonardo left the country, Morgan rushed to the airport as soon as she heard the news. She chased after him, crying and begging him not to leave her. Every word carried desperation. Every sentence came through tears. None of it mattered. Leonardo never even looked back.

After he left, Morgan lost her appetite and barely ate. She couldn't even hold her liquor, yet she drank so much that she ended up in the hospital.

Back then, I was the one who stayed by her side. I was the one who helped her through that heartbreak with nothing but sincerity.

And yet, the moment Morgan saw Leonardo again, she still wavered, even after everything he'd done to hurt her.

"Morgan, when we were 18, you told me that if we ever broke up, all I had to do was show up at your wedding and you'd leave with me," Leonardo said in a gentle, tender voice. "So now I want to know. Does that promise still stand?"

Morgan didn't say a word, but I could feel her body trembling.

I turned to her, my voice unsteady with uncertainty. "Morgan, don't go. If you leave, I'll forget you. I'll never be able to love you again."

The moment I finished speaking, Morgan answered through her actions. She didn't even spare me a glance. Right in front of every guest, she dropped the ring, gathered the skirt of her wedding dress, and ran straight toward Leonardo.

She threw herself into his arms and wrapped both arms tightly around his waist, as if he were a precious treasure she'd lost and finally found again.

Later, the two of them walked away hand in hand. Their silhouettes looked light and carefree.

Of course they did. They were the ones who truly belonged together. I had only entered Morgan's life because Leonardo had left. I was nothing more than someone who had stepped into the space he'd left behind and stayed by her side for a brief while.

I laughed at her words. "Morgan, who do you think you are? Do you really think I'm going to waste my whole life on you?"You've always had Leonardo in your heart. The only reason you agreed to be with me was because you needed someone to fill that emotional void. You knew exactly how much I loved you and how much that wedding meant to me, yet you destroyed it without a second thought."You think I didn't know you only agreed to marry me because he said he wouldn't marry you? You were just trying to force his hand."Even though I didn't love her anymore, I still wanted justice for the man I used to be.After Morgan left me at the altar, Leonardo sent me a video. In it, Morgan was straddling his lap with tears in her eyes. "You won't marry me? Leonardo, I'll make you regret it. In one week, I'm marrying Anthony. If you don't show up at my wedding, I swear you'll never see me again."All the color drained from Morgan's face. Her lips moved, but she couldn't utter a single word. She

Later, I heard from some friends what happened after the engagement party.Leonardo and Morgan had a huge fight, and she demanded that they break up.He still loved her, so he refused to let her go. He even brought her parents and younger brother over, then dragged her to the courthouse and legally married her.I didn't pay them any more attention. When our company expanded its business into Roseford, I volunteered to go abroad and gain some experience.Once I arrived in Roseford, everything at work went almost absurdly smoothly.Later, Sophie started coming to see me often, always claiming that her family's company had clients here.Whenever she said it, the tips of her ears would turn slightly red.I wasn't some clueless kid. I knew exactly what Sophie meant. She was a wealthy heiress. Did she really need to fly to Roseford every few days for business? And somehow, she always had time to ask me out for meals.Hence, Sophie and I gradually grew closer.…Six months later,

I didn't move. The guests who had been watching the spectacle gathered around us and eagerly joined in."Exactly. Mr. Gilbert and Miss Henderson make such a gorgeous couple. You two have to kiss.""Come on, let us single people have some fun too."At that moment, Morgan released Leonardo and casually glanced in my direction."Anthony, isn't Miss Henderson your girlfriend?" Her tone sounded almost casual as she tested the waters, but confidence filled her eyes. She knew how much the old me had loved her. How could I possibly have fallen for someone else in just two short months?I frowned and was about to pull Sophie away. We had only known each other for a little over a month. Although we got along well, I still needed to respect her boundaries, especially when it came to kissing. Before anyone could react, Sophie suddenly turned her back to the crowd, rose onto her toes, and gently wrapped her arms around my neck. She stopped when her lips were barely an inch from mine.I lowe

Morgan wanted to throw a lavish engagement party with Leonardo.Whether she wanted to get under my skin or not, she made a point of sending me an invitation. She even included a note reminding me to bring a date.I rubbed my temples as I stared at the gold lettering embossed on the invitation, then tossed it into the trash.Even though I no longer had feelings for her, I instinctively wanted to avoid getting tangled up with her again. For years, I'd devoted myself entirely to her. Even all the secretaries and assistants at my company were men.For the life of me, I couldn't think of anyone suitable to bring."What happened, handsome? Why'd you throw away a perfectly good invitation?"I followed the voice and looked up.A woman stepped through the door, her long hair falling over her shoulders and her red lips striking against her complexion. It was Sophie Henderson. After Morgan and I broke up, my parents worried that I'd let one failed relationship ruin my life. Hence, they

I closed the file in my hands, looked up at Morgan, and smiled. "Give me one reason why I should understand you."Morgan, you know exactly how I've treated you all these years. Don't think I don't know what you're really thinking."You can't get into the Blooms, and you're afraid people will call you ungrateful and heartless, so you came back to me."However, I'm not a garbage collector. I don't want someone like you."In the five years I'd known Morgan, those were the cruelest words I'd ever said to her.She clearly couldn't take them. Her face went pale, then flushed red before it darkened with anger. She bit her lip and glared at me viciously. "Fine, Anthony. Then let's break up. Don't you dare come crawling back to me later!"Morgan gritted her teeth as she spoke. She acted as though she were about to leave, but her feet remained firmly planted in place."I won't. I told you, I'll never fall in love with you again for the rest of my life. Because you don't deserve it."The

If Morgan hadn't brought it up, I wouldn't have remembered just how foolish I'd been back then. The last time she'd gone to a college reunion, she hadn't come home all night. She ignored my calls and messages, then eventually turned off her phone.I drove from club to club, checking every place she'd been to until I finally found her at a bar.She was leaning against Leonardo's chest as she drank. In that moment, I finally understood why Morgan, who never attended college reunions, had insisted on going to this one.Leonardo was back. Our eyes met. Morgan eventually looked away, but she made no move to leave his arms.Fury surged through me. I didn't care who was watching. I stormed over and pulled Morgan out of Leonardo's embrace.I couldn't contain myself, and we started arguing. Morgan merely said in a casual tone, "I was drunk. I was just leaning against Leo for a while. You're reading too much into it."Her classmates immediately chimed in."Yeah, Morgan was drunk, and Le
