“What?” Her eyelids dropped, and I could sense the disappointment in her voice.

“I remember saying I love you,” I chuckled, my heart swelling with affection.

“Do you mean that?” There was a glimmer of hope in her eyes.

My heart skipped a beat at her words, and for a moment, I considered the weight of my emotions. But I couldn't deny the truth any longer. "I didn't just say it, Anya," I admitted, my voice softening. "I meant it. More than I ever thought was possible." Despite my reluctance to open myself up to love, she had managed to find her way into my heart.

Her eyes widened, and a smile began to curve on her lips. It was a smile that held both vulnerability and hope, a reflection of the fragile connection between us. “I desperately want to believe that. No one has ever loved me and stayed. It is either they betray me or leave,” she said sadly, her vulnerability laid bare.
