Chapter Twenty-eight

Catherine's POV:

After dinner, everyone was left to mingle with one another. I remained in my seat for a long time, bracing for socialization and watching Michael do it so flawlessly. Well, he knew a lot of people here and I did not. Not at all.

"You're lucky, you know?"

I whipped my head to the side. A woman who I hadn't seen was seated right beside me, a beautiful but caustic smile on her face. She had the most beautiful shade of blond hair and her eyes were as blue as the seas. None of that did justice to her beauty. She was an epitome of perfection.

"Hello to you too." I replied, feeling slightly awkward that I was being directly spoken to. "And what do you mean?"

Her eyes fleeted over to Michael who stood before two men with a glass of wine in his hand. I turned back to look at her. "You're so smitten."

Smitten? What the hell was she talking about? I would have asked her to mind her business if I didn't have to pretend like I really was. From the looks of
