LOGINDrake growled, trying to break the iron bars that blocked his escape. The humans had put him in a prison so small it would hurt if he ever transformed into his dragon self.
"Let me out of here!" He snarled, glaring at the head magician who had imprisoned him. He stood a few feet away from the iron bars. For days he had been coming over, studying the dragon man, but he was at a loss. Though in his estrus stage, he still refused to budge and take the bait. "Where the heck are you going?!" Drake growled as the head magician took a few steps back. "Come back here, human!" But he didn't listen. He just climbed up the stairs leading to the entrance of the dungeon. The moment the guards saw him, they opened the gate for him to exit. He stepped out of the gate. He was about to walk away when he stopped in front of the guard in charge of securing the dragon. "Remember, no one goes in without my permission, and—" He turned towards the gate. "There's no way he's getting out of there." "Understood, my Lord," The guard replied. Just as the head magician was about to leave, the guard continued. "Besides, he is weak and in his human form, so there's no way he is getting out of there." He halted in his steps. "Just so you know, estrus or not, dragon form or human form, a dragon is still a dragon." He tilted his head slightly towards them. "Worse, when he is as small as you and you can't see him coming." With those words said, he walked away, not looking back. He climbed onto his horse, clucking, making the creature gallop. In a few hours, he was in front of the castle. "Welcome, Lord Xavier," A Knight greeted. "Looking grim as always." "Well, I have no choice, Sir Gregory. The situation calls for it," he said as he dismounted the horse, landing on the ground. A stable boy ran towards him. Xavier handed him the horse's reins. "Keep it clean and fed," He instructed. He walked towards Gregory. "Tell me, where is the King?" "In his room," He replied. "Doing what?" Gregory leaned in, whispering into his ear. Xavier's brows creased. Without saying anything else, he headed into the castle. He took a few turns through different hallways, climbed a flight of stairs, and stopped in front of a huge door with four Knights outside. A Knight moved forward, blocking his path with a sheathed sword. "You can't go in, the King is...busy." "I know that, Sir Arnold, I can hear it. But I do not have time to waste; the matter is rather—urgent if you understand me." "I'm sorry my Lord, I still can't allow it. The King hates to be disturbed." Xavier shook his head. He took a few steps towards Arnold, but he unsheathed his sword. Before he could point the tip toward Xavier, a beam of blue light flickered, and all of a sudden, his sword turned into a large carrot. "What in god's name!" The other guards unsheathed their swords, and the same thing happened. Arnold looked from Xavier to the carrot in his hand, fear radiating in his eyes. Xavier leaned in, whispering into his ears. "I know you do not want to be punished for interrupting the King, Sir Arnold, but I don't think you have a better option. You either let me in and be flogged or beheaded by the King, or you end up living the rest of your life as a rat, or maybe an ant. The choice is yours." Arnold felt a chill run down his spine. He turned towards the door, knocked, opened it slightly, and walked in. In less than a minute he was out. "You may go in," He said to Xavier as he opened the door. "Thank you," Xavier said with a smile on his face. But the smile vanished when he entered the King's chambers. "Huff... huff... haah... huff... haah..." A girl moaned as the King repeatedly went into her crouched-over frame from behind. "More Your Majesty! Please! More!" The King chuckled. "As you wish, my Lady." He pulled her waist towards him, slapping her butt cheek. She winced, biting her lower lip, trembling. "Good day, Your Majesty," Xavier greeted, pulling his attention. Sighing, the King tilted his head towards him, but he didn't stop. "You've got guts barging in here, Xavier, I hope this is important." "Very important, Your Majesty." "More important than this?" The King grabbed the girl's dangling breasts with both hands, seizing and squeezing them before taking hold of her nipples. Her moans filled the room as he played with her hardened tits. "It's about the dragon. We finally caught it." The King paused. He pulled himself out of the girl and slapped her butt cheek. "Leave, Lisa," He instructed. "But, Your Majesty, it was starting to get—" She stopped when she saw the glare on his face. Without saying anything else, she picked up her clothes that were littered on the floor and ran out of the room. The King picked up his robe and put it on. He snapped his fingers and his Chamberlain emerged from a corner. She poured wine and handed it to the King. "So tell me, Xavier, what do you need me to do?" He took a sip of his wine as he sat on his bed. "You already convinced me to let you keep it alive. What more do you want from me?" Xavier looked at the young Chamberlain. She was just a few years younger than the King. She caught Xavier staring at her and looked away. "Well, Your Majesty, like I said, we can keep it alive and get something from it," He looked at the young King. "But to do that we need to get it to mate." The King emptied his cup and handed it to the Chamberlain. He picked up a sheathed sword that was beside his bed. "Do you need me to do that for you?" "No, Your Majesty, I—" Without warning, the King unsheathed the sword and pushed the tip into the nape of Xavier, drawing blood. "Then what gives you the right to interrupt your King when he said no one should?" The King's darkened gaze glared at Xavier. Xavier swallowed hard as he folded his knuckles into a fist. All of a sudden he knelt. "I am sorry, Your Majesty!" He cried out. "Just that we need to get the dragon to fall for a woman and mate with her. I asked some of the Court ladies, but they refused, saying they were scared." The King sheathed the sword. "Then what do you want me to do for you: force them into the dragon's dungeon?" Xavier raised his head slowly, a smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Not really, Your Majesty, but if I could send a word in your name, maybe they would obey, you know, since it is coming from you, our King." The King remained silent for a while, thinking, before finally speaking up. "You may go, Xavier, do as you please." He handed the sword to his Chamberlain. "You have my permission."While all these were happening in Elaina's mind, only 30 seconds had passed in real time. Drake felt something was off even before he understood it. Since he could feel her emotions through the bond, he found it strange that the anxiousness she felt before had suddenly stopped. He felt her emotions had gone completely calm and it was not because she had become fearless because he would have still felt some fluctuations.Someone was wrong and so he narrowed to look at her keenly. Elaina had gone still, her body was upright and in a position to fight, but her eyes were unfocused and it looked like she was struggling to her breath. While Charlotte was standing a few distance away with that quiet, knowing smile on her face.Dread filled his stomach and his senses were tingling. Something was happening and he could not see it.“Elaina,” he called in a firm voice. But second ticked by and there was no response. He looked down at her hand and noticed it was trembling, then he glanced at C
Elaina stepped forward knowing deep down that fighting Charlotte was a death sentence. Not because she was weak or lacked power. But because Charlotte did not fight like ordinary enemies. She did not charge blindly, she calculated and unwrapped you with her eyes. And Elaina understood now that stepping into this confrontation meant walking directly into a web that had likely been spun long before she realized she was caught in it.But she could not allow anyone else to stand in her place.Definitely not Drake or the warriors waiting for her to give orders. She was already feeling guilty about the innocent families Charlotte had already punished because of her obsession. If Charlotte wanted her, then she would have her.Elaina forced her breathing to slow down as she tapped into her dragon bloodline just like Drake had taught her. She could not rush in with anger or she might make a fatal mistake she would regret.Or she might even die without realizing it.Charlotte watched her approa
Days rolled by quickly and three days later, the palace doors were opened again for outsiders. It was the final stage where the decision that would determine the kingdom’s future was madeFresh banners hung along the pillars and the throne room was beautifully decorated to fit the occasion. The council members were already present and Elaina stood at the head of the table, composed and ready. They were waiting for the five candidates and their families to walk through those doors but after over one hour, no one came.Whispers and confusion brewed among them as they could not understand what was going on. Drake had already sent some warriors to find out what had happened and soon one burst through the door to report.“My lady and my lord's, there had been a great disruption,” he said under his breath. His face looked pale and his hands were trembling around a sealed parchment.Elaina’s stomach dropped, she could sense something was wrong. “Calm yourself and speak clearly.” she said.“T
When Elaina returned to the council chamber, she was alone. The strange woman did not come with her. The council member were still muttering with arguments of if the Alfred's father ever had another child, but they died down the moment the doors shut behind her. Every pair of eyes turned in expectation. Some were relieved, others were curious and eager for her report and command. But upon seeing that she had returned alone, they assumed she had handled it.She must have discovered that the strange woman was just attention seeking and had probably ordered guards to throw her out or arrest her.Elaina walked back to her seat on the table, she looked a little distracted and an unreasonable expression was etched in her face. Drake eyebrows furrowed in suspicion upon seeing her, she looked too lost and something felt off. But then if there was a fluctuation in her emotions then he would have felt it, but everything seemed normal since she left. “Well? Is she gone?” Glynn who was one of
The visions did not stop when Elaina tore Charlotte’s hand away, instead they deepened. Her body remained standing in that same position but her mind was no longer hers. She felt like she was sinking, like she was falling backward into moments she had lived but never truly seen. The first image cleared up and she saw her room, the same one Alfred had given her to stay. Charlotte was there in a cloak, she came to drop a letter carefully on the bed. It was the anonymous tip about what Xavier was up to, Elaina remembered it very clearly. To think that it was Charlotte that sent that tip. She and Drake had tried to figure out who but had given up when there were no leads.Elaina felt her memory shift to another image. It was in Xavier's manor now, in the familiar storage room she had gone to a few times.Charlotte was there as well. She had placed a book strategically in an old pouch bag. That book was the ancient dragon book. The very book Elaina had “discovered” in Xavier’s manor, th
The others had not yet recovered from the first shock when Elaina cleared her throat. She had to think calmly and approach the matter as hand professionally. Her patience had limits and the same applied to her mercy too. The cloaked woman who had dared to call herself the heir was waiting calmly for their questions like she had all the time in the world.“Enough now, you will either fully explain yourself or you will leave this hall before I have you arrested for treason.” Elaina said in a calm but firm voice to show she was not to be messed with. The woman’s gaze did not waver, instead she slowly reached up and unclasped the cloak, letting it fall to the floor. What remained beneath was a court dress. It looked regal to be easily bought by a commoner. It carried the royal colors of deep crimson and gold threading. She bowed royally and repeated. “Like I said before. My name is Charlotte Lorik. I am the Chamberlain to the late king.”The room stilled and relief washed over their fac
