Drake stirred in his cave, his immense silhouette framed against the fiery hues of the setting sun.
His onyx-black scales shimmered faintly, as though embers smoldered beneath them. Though his breathing was slow and steady, his molten gold eyes betrayed the storm churning within. A deep growl rumbled from his chest, resonating through the stone around him. His claws dug into the rocky ground, carving furrows as restless energy surged through his powerful frame. Shaking his mane of spines, he exhaled sharply. The fire of estrus burned in his veins, making it impossible to focus. He paced near the entrance, his obsidian scales catching the faint light of the setting sun. "This is ridiculous," he muttered, his deep voice echoing through the stone walls. "All this energy, and for what? Nature’s cruel joke, that’s what." He huffed, shaking his massive head. "I need to get out of here." As he stepped into the open air, the cool mountain breeze did little to calm him. His nostrils flared as he inhaled deeply, trying to catch the scent of the world beyond. The estrus period was a time of great powers and great vulnerability, a time to be feared because the strongest dragons could be taken during this period. And he, a matured and experienced dragon, knew the risks. He had seen dragons who had lost themselves completely during the estrus period, who had become mindless beasts driven solely by their desires. He shuddered as he recalled memories of his first estrus period. He had to look for a young female dragon who had strayed from home to ease himself. He could not let that happen to him. He had to find a way to control his desires, to master the fire that burned within him, or at least get a mate. Though it wasn't easy to find a true mate. His kind were very loyal, only having one mate in their lifetime. That was what he desired, but his first estrus period made him do otherwise. Now he was ready to right his wrongs. But he knew he couldn't get it here. He had to leave the cave. Besides, he wasn't used to staying in a place for long. With a snarl, he moved towards the edge of the cave. He stepped into the open air, the cool mountain breeze washing over him. It offered little comfort, only teasing him with scents of distant lands and life. He sniffed the air, pausing for a moment, but then a faint, acrid tang caught his attention. "Magic," he growled, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the treeline below. "Humans." Before he could react, a streak of blue light shot from the trees, slamming into his side. The impact sent him staggering, and a net of crackling energy spread across his body. He roared in fury, thrashing against the spell. "You’ve got to be kidding me!" he growled, his tail whipping around to strike the ground with a thunderous crash. "Attacking me now? Do you have a death wish?" From the forest below, a group of robed magicians emerged, their staff glowing with runes. The leader stepped forward, his voice loud and confident. "You’re weakened, dragon! We know that—" Drake laughed, his voice a deep, rumbling sound. "Weakened? What makes you think so?" "For centuries we have studied your kind. Strong and fearsome creatures you are, but a time comes when you lose that vigor. We know what you are going through. We have been waiting patiently for it. Estrus has drained your strength," The leader mocked, a grin playing at the corners of his lips. "Surrender now, and this doesn’t have to get ugly." The dragon was furious. "We'll see about that," He snarled. He lunged forward, his claws raking the earth as he fought against the magical net. The magicians began chanting in unison, their spells weaving together into chains of golden light that wrapped around his wings and legs. Drake roared, flames erupting from his mouth and scorching the air. "You think your little tricks will stop me?!" he bellowed, straining against the bindings. "I am a fire incarnate! You don’t stand a chance!" But the fire of estrus sapped his strength. His movements became sluggish, his roars less fierce. A chain lashed around his neck, forcing his head low. He struggled, smoke pouring from his nostrils, but his body betrayed him. "You’re fighting a losing battle, dragon," the leader taunted. "This heat makes you vulnerable. You can’t even control your form." Drake’s eyes widened at the words, and for a moment, panic flickered across his face. "No," he growled. "I will not—" Before he could finish, his body convulsed. The golden chains tightened, their magic reacting with the instability in his form. His massive frame began to shift, the obsidian scales melting away to reveal pale, human skin. His claws retracted, his wings vanished, and in moments, he was no longer a towering beast but a man, collapsed and gasping on the ground. The magicians approached cautiously, their staff still glowing. The leader smirked, looking down at the disoriented figure. "Well, well. Looks like we were right. You’re not so fearsome now, are you?" Drake glared up at them, his golden eyes still burning with defiance. "Don’t mistake this for defeat," he spat, his voice hoarse but filled with venom. "You’ll regret this." "Maybe," the leader said, his tone smug. "But for now, you’re coming with us." The magicians encircled him, their spells forming a containment field. He tried to rise, his body trembling with exhaustion, but it was no use. The magic was too strong, and his weakened state left him powerless. "I’ll get out of this," he muttered under his breath, his voice barely audible over the hum of magic. "And when I do, you’ll all pay." "Now, now, little creature, you seem to have misunderstood us," The leader said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "We do not want to hurt you in any way. We only want to help you." "Humans!" Drake retorted as he spat on the floor. "Your kind have no heart—" "—Ah, but I do. It may be black, but it still beats, pumping blood into my body." He added, cutting Drake off. "Just like yours is beating to the rhythm of your desires." He took a few steps towards him, but far enough from his reach. Though in his human form, he knew Drake was still dangerous. He smiled at the dragon. "But don't worry, I'll help you quench the raging fire burning inside of you."Elaina stepped out of the small cabin, brushing her hair back as her eyes adjusted to the morning light. Then she saw Drake standing a few steps away, looking already dressed and prepared. She could tell there was something different about him so she approached him. “I noticed you didn’t sleep much last night.”“You are right, I didn't” he replied while avoiding her gaze. She frowned and asked, “Is everything alright, Drake?.”A brief silence followed before Drake spoke again. “I’m leaving.”She paused brushing her hair, clearly surprised, “Leaving to where?”“For Cradle of Flames today,” he added as he finally turned to look her in the eye. The determination in his eyes made her still.“Today?” she repeated, her brows drawing together. “But why the sudden rush?”Drake sighed “Because waiting is costing us more than we realize.” he answered. Elaina shook her head in disagreement, “But we’ve been waiting for the right moment…”“And what if that moment never comes?” Drake cut in, his t
Elaina hesitated, unsure of if it was appropriate to tell him what Ryker wanted a secret. Then she thought that it probably didn't matter anymore, she had already seen it. So she answered, “Drake…”“What is it?”“It’s Ryker… During our training, I found a huge weight of sadness in his mind, it was twice as huge compared to other emotions and worse still, he had built a wall around it to hide it”“Sadness? Wall? I don't understand, what does that mean?” Drake asked, more concerned now. Elaina sighed, “I tried to ask him about it but he was reluctant to answer and then I lost control and unintentionally forced him to tell me… he's been struggling badly with his farm…” She then proceeded to tell him everything in detail and the more she went on, the more Drake's frown deepened. “Your power… You can control memories and cause temporary hypnosis? Fearsome!” he commented, finding it hard to choose between being impressed or worried. Then he paused and looked in the direction that Ryker ha
Days passed too quietly, waiting had never been easy, but this kind that came before war felt heavier than most. So instead of letting it get to her, Elaina chose not to sit still. If she could not fight yet then she would prepare. The clearing behind the hideout had become their training ground, it was secluded and shielded by tall trees that kept wandering eyes away. So on that day, Elaina stood facing Ryker for training.Drake leaned against a nearby tree with his arms folded, watching quietly.“Again,” Ryker said, stepping back.Elaina nodded and she closed her eyes briefly, centering herself the way Drake had taught her and focusing on the energy around her. She had been using her free time to learn more about her dragon powers from Drake and Ryker, and it was during the early stages that she discovered that she had the power to delve into any dragon’s soul. She used a deep connection like she did with dragons at the tower back then, to enter into their consciousness and feel a
Skyrend Citadel no longer felt like home. It still stood tall, just as it always had, with it's towering walls that surrounded the city like Drake remembered. The walls did not change, not the buildings too or the street paths… but everything else was wrong.Drake stood at a distance cloaked in Aurora’s disguise and watched the day to say activity of the city. He did that everyday and he could tell, something was off. There was a darkness clinging to it now. Not the natural kind that came with the stormy night but something more sinister and it felt like it had seeped into its very foundation. He off course knew it had to be Vaerik's doing. How cruel could he be?Even from where he stood, he could feel it the tension and fear in the air. The people moved around while watching their backs and guards walked around like they were mini gods. They had become too aggressive and was ever ready to draw out their weapon against anyone who tried to oppose them. This was not the kingdom he had o
In the throne room of Vytharion, Vaerik leaned back against the his seat with one arm placed lazily over the armrest and his fingers tapping slowly against it. He was restless and trying so hard to contain it, he didn't want to lose himself over a small matter or let people see him so affected. The room was silent and yet it did nothing to quiet the anger and hatred inside him. But how could he stay still when his sworn enemy might be returning?Drake. The name alone felt like a thorn lodged deep beneath his skin.At first, he had dismissed the rumours of his return flying around. He thought it was just whispers carried by weak villagers clinging to hope like it could save them. He had heard foolish stories of fallen kings returning or saviors rising from nothing so he paid no heed and calculated that it would die soon. But he was wrong, the news kept spreading like wild fire. His name was everywhere, from the streets, to the guards and even his council. It irritated him greatly to
The kingdom had not seen celebration in a long while so everyone basked in it. Music played in the halls and candles were lit in every corner. Tonight was a different kind of celebration, it was for their heroes. Elaina stood at the edge of the hall as her eyes looked over the gathered crowd. There were Nobles, warriors and servants in attendance, everyone had come together out of gratitude to appreciate what Elaina and the others had done to bring back peace and equality to the kingdom and to send them off for their journey to Vytharion. “For someone who doesn’t like attention, you’re handling this quite well.” Drake commented as he stared at her with amusement in his eyes. They had walked in together and stopped to take the crowd in. Elaina glanced at him and rolled her eyes, “I’m enduring it,” she corrected. Drake smirked. “Same thing.” She shook her head though the corner of her lips lifted just a bit. Across the hall, Sachin had already made himself comfortable, a goblet i
Elaina arrived at the dungeon and the wardens greeted her as usual and opened the gate to Drake's cell for her.Drake was glad to see her, he pulled her in for a hug but noticed she reacted stiffly to it. He could tell something was wrong in an instant.“I went to the market to make more herbal pot
Drake couldn't hold it back anymore, he grunted and released into her. Although he didn't like that it was that quick; he wanted to pleasure her more, but he consoled himself that he would continue till she climaxed too.But to his surprise, Elaina suddenly pulled away and began getting dressed. It
The bright sun rays and chirping birds woke Elaina up. She yawned noisily and stretched tiredly on the bed as she opened her sleepy eyes.‘How long did I sleep to feel this tired?’ she wondered as she stepped down from the bed.She usually woke up at intervals but this time she slept all through th
