Drake stirred in his cave, his immense silhouette framed against the fiery hues of the setting sun.
His onyx-black scales shimmered faintly, as though embers smoldered beneath them. Though his breathing was slow and steady, his molten gold eyes betrayed the storm churning within. A deep growl rumbled from his chest, resonating through the stone around him. His claws dug into the rocky ground, carving furrows as restless energy surged through his powerful frame. Shaking his mane of spines, he exhaled sharply. The fire of estrus burned in his veins, making it impossible to focus. He paced near the entrance, his obsidian scales catching the faint light of the setting sun. "This is ridiculous," he muttered, his deep voice echoing through the stone walls. "All this energy, and for what? Nature’s cruel joke, that’s what." He huffed, shaking his massive head. "I need to get out of here." As he stepped into the open air, the cool mountain breeze did little to calm him. His nostrils flared as he inhaled deeply, trying to catch the scent of the world beyond. The estrus period was a time of great powers and great vulnerability, a time to be feared because the strongest dragons could be taken during this period. And he, a matured and experienced dragon, knew the risks. He had seen dragons who had lost themselves completely during the estrus period, who had become mindless beasts driven solely by their desires. He shuddered as he recalled memories of his first estrus period. He had to look for a young female dragon who had strayed from home to ease himself. He could not let that happen to him. He had to find a way to control his desires, to master the fire that burned within him, or at least get a mate. Though it wasn't easy to find a true mate. His kind were very loyal, only having one mate in their lifetime. That was what he desired, but his first estrus period made him do otherwise. Now he was ready to right his wrongs. But he knew he couldn't get it here. He had to leave the cave. Besides, he wasn't used to staying in a place for long. With a snarl, he moved towards the edge of the cave. He stepped into the open air, the cool mountain breeze washing over him. It offered little comfort, only teasing him with scents of distant lands and life. He sniffed the air, pausing for a moment, but then a faint, acrid tang caught his attention. "Magic," he growled, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the treeline below. "Humans." Before he could react, a streak of blue light shot from the trees, slamming into his side. The impact sent him staggering, and a net of crackling energy spread across his body. He roared in fury, thrashing against the spell. "You’ve got to be kidding me!" he growled, his tail whipping around to strike the ground with a thunderous crash. "Attacking me now? Do you have a death wish?" From the forest below, a group of robed magicians emerged, their staff glowing with runes. The leader stepped forward, his voice loud and confident. "You’re weakened, dragon! We know that—" Drake laughed, his voice a deep, rumbling sound. "Weakened? What makes you think so?" "For centuries we have studied your kind. Strong and fearsome creatures you are, but a time comes when you lose that vigor. We know what you are going through. We have been waiting patiently for it. Estrus has drained your strength," The leader mocked, a grin playing at the corners of his lips. "Surrender now, and this doesn’t have to get ugly." The dragon was furious. "We'll see about that," He snarled. He lunged forward, his claws raking the earth as he fought against the magical net. The magicians began chanting in unison, their spells weaving together into chains of golden light that wrapped around his wings and legs. Drake roared, flames erupting from his mouth and scorching the air. "You think your little tricks will stop me?!" he bellowed, straining against the bindings. "I am a fire incarnate! You don’t stand a chance!" But the fire of estrus sapped his strength. His movements became sluggish, his roars less fierce. A chain lashed around his neck, forcing his head low. He struggled, smoke pouring from his nostrils, but his body betrayed him. "You’re fighting a losing battle, dragon," the leader taunted. "This heat makes you vulnerable. You can’t even control your form." Drake’s eyes widened at the words, and for a moment, panic flickered across his face. "No," he growled. "I will not—" Before he could finish, his body convulsed. The golden chains tightened, their magic reacting with the instability in his form. His massive frame began to shift, the obsidian scales melting away to reveal pale, human skin. His claws retracted, his wings vanished, and in moments, he was no longer a towering beast but a man, collapsed and gasping on the ground. The magicians approached cautiously, their staff still glowing. The leader smirked, looking down at the disoriented figure. "Well, well. Looks like we were right. You’re not so fearsome now, are you?" Drake glared up at them, his golden eyes still burning with defiance. "Don’t mistake this for defeat," he spat, his voice hoarse but filled with venom. "You’ll regret this." "Maybe," the leader said, his tone smug. "But for now, you’re coming with us." The magicians encircled him, their spells forming a containment field. He tried to rise, his body trembling with exhaustion, but it was no use. The magic was too strong, and his weakened state left him powerless. "I’ll get out of this," he muttered under his breath, his voice barely audible over the hum of magic. "And when I do, you’ll all pay." "Now, now, little creature, you seem to have misunderstood us," The leader said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "We do not want to hurt you in any way. We only want to help you." "Humans!" Drake retorted as he spat on the floor. "Your kind have no heart—" "—Ah, but I do. It may be black, but it still beats, pumping blood into my body." He added, cutting Drake off. "Just like yours is beating to the rhythm of your desires." He took a few steps towards him, but far enough from his reach. Though in his human form, he knew Drake was still dangerous. He smiled at the dragon. "But don't worry, I'll help you quench the raging fire burning inside of you."Elaina singlehandedly ransacked the entire house in desperation to find anything relevant. She purposely didn't tell Drake about it because of the tension between them, plus she didn't want to give him hope unnecessarily. She checked everywhere and everything; the furniture, cupboards, shelves and the bottom of everything. The cottage wasn't that big so it didn't take too much of her time although it felt like painful hours had passed.“Oh great heavens! Why can't I find anything?” she muttered to herself when she found nothing of importance. She slumped to the ground and her eyes watered with unshed tears. She was devastated, even more than she was when she hadn't gotten the idea. ‘How silly of me!” She thought as her last shred of hope faded into nothing. Perhaps this was how her life was meant to be… like her mother; always in hiding. Xavier's would soon take over the world and would definitely come for her and Drake first. The road ahead was treacherous and maybe it was time t
Lord Xavier exchanged goodbyes with Lord Elliot before stepping into his carriage and heading to the palace. As his closest advisor, council member and great magician, he was obligated to check up on the wounded king. Asides that he wanted to see the satisfactory scene of King Alfred paying for his foolishness. Drake and Elaina had helped him scratch an itch and they were the ones affected… even better. When he arrived at the palace, he was led to the infirmary where king Alfred was undergoing treatment. He kept his face sad and full of sympathy that was sincerely just for show. Not even the king dying moved him.The king's chamber for treatment was like a luxurious room, popular physicians troped in and out trying to expend all their knowledge and resources to save Alfred's life.Once Xavier walked in they bowed in respect and stepped out one by one to give them some privacy. Except the royal physician who sat by his side to actively tend to him.Xavier got closer and observed his co
Elaina pulled away from Drake's arms and straightened. She was utterly terrified by the realization they just had and she struggled to process it. Drake was left out either, he immediately got up to his feet and began pacing back and forth with dread on his face. As if they were not already struggling enough, their situation just got way worse.“Maybe we are getting worked up over nothing, Drake. We can't be completely sure he has the essence just because he missed fortifying the cell securely… right?” Elaina spoke up with desperation while looking at Drake's form with hopeful eyes. They still had so much to do even though Drake's escape was a big milestone for them. It wasn't exactly an escape either if they were both wanted fugitives and with a beaten up king by the side. They still had to play the musical call, find out the imposter who took Drake's essence, save both kingdoms and find her mother.Xavier with the essence would definitely not give them time to do all that, his fi
While all that was happening, Elaina turned restlessly in her sleep. She was definitely exhausted after the events of that day and her body was begging to rest but her mind was restless. Their current situation worried her, she felt stuck on what to do next. The couldn't be the end of all their hopes and dreams.Aside from that, king Alfred tormented her. She would see him everytime she closed her eyes. He had traumatized her with his actions deeply and she wasn't sure she would be able to recover from it anytime soon. She kept seeing the sick expression on his face, his naked body hovering over her and his disgusting phallus touching her entrance. A shiver would ran over her repeatedly and no matter how much she tried to distract herself, it kept replaying over and over again. How did everything get to this point? She wondered. No matter how much Alfred had claimed to want her for himself, she never thought he would be that desperate to force himself to that extent. Her naivety ha
Xavier almost couldn't believe his ears, he stood frozen to a spot as he processed what Elliot just told him.He finally regained himself a few seconds later and his next action surprised Elliot. “Let’s talk in my private study, Lord Elliot… I'm afraid the walls has ears and we cannot discuss matters concerning the king so openly”Elliot nodded unsurely and followed him to his study. He had expected Xavier to be sad with the news because he was the king's closest advisor but he wasn't. He wasn't exactly the catch any type of gossip outside kingdom duties so he was unaware of how broken the king and Xavier's relationship was.He was beginning to see why Xavier could brazenly attempt to dethrone Alfred. They were sworn enemies just tolerating each other's presence. As if to confirm Elliot's thoughts, Xavier burst into laughter as soon as he closed the door of his study. He had been holding it in since at the foyer and now he could release the joy in his heart at the king's pain.“Lord X
A knock came from the door and a voice followed, “My Lord, a letter have arrived from the palace” A guard announced.Xavier paused what he was doing and his face fell into a frown. A letter from the palace could only mean it was from the king but what could he possibly want? What the king had done was still fresh in his mind, he had humiliated him for the sake of a peasant and disregarded his position as his closest advisor. Xavier had vowed to take his revenge and had resolved to staying away from anything related to the king. He thought they wouldn't have any reason to discuss anymore so he was confused by the announced letter.Xavier contemplated within himself and finally replied the guard, “Keep the letter till I'm done. I do not want to be disturb right now”After he said that, he returned his attention to what was in front of him and pushed the thought of the king and the letter to back of his mind. Xavier was busy with making his special weapon and was very meticulous so as
