MasukCrystal's POV
Shock spread throughout the hall. People gasped, murmured and exclaimed. This had to be impossible! She was the best the pack had to offer. And she still wasn't enough?
I was both shocked and confused. How? Why? What was he looking for that he didn't see in Rachel? She was beautiful, strong and the pride of the pack. Wasn't that every alpha's dream?
Rachel didn't accept it either. "You didn't understand me. I am the best my pack has to offer. If you didn't come here for me, you're in the wrong place because you wouldn't find anyone better than me! I am the best here! How dare you refuse me? I am specially blessed by the Moon Goddess. I only accepted you becau-"
"YOU..? ACCEPTED...ME?" He asked in a thunderous tone.
Everybody fell silent. He was infuriated.
"You think I can be accepted? You think I'm an offer? I'm the one who chooses. I'm the one who accepts. And everybody else is an option to me. You are not worthy of me. My wolf doesn't even acknowledge you and you think you can accept me?" He bellowed, walking menacingly towards her as he climbed down the steps.
Fear gripped everybody. No one dared speak or move. I shook in my insignificant spot. My little sister had unknowingly triggered the devil and now she was in danger.
Luna Cersera knew she had to act fast.
"Apologies for her insolence, Alpha Adrian. She doesn't know who you are. Please forgive her ignorance" she pleaded from her seat.
But Adrian was already enraged. He turned to her with his eyes burning red with rage.
"I came to your pack for a mate, requested for your best offers and you made me go through the lowest you had to offer and after wasting my time and energy, you brought your daughter to insult and infuriate me and now you beg on her behalf? If she groveled at my feet I might have considered leaving her with a slight punishment but she couldn't even apologise for herself. She has to die for defying me" he bellowed and turned back to Rachel.
Die? Just because she disrespected you a little? What kind of devil was this? My little sister was about to be killed and the guards and warriors present couldn't even do anything. None of them moved!
Even the so-called Luna just stood from her seat and stared like she was powerless. Your daughter was about to be killed!
I couldn't get it. Who was this guy? Who did he think he was and why were they all scared of him? He was just one man. Why couldn't they all rush him and immobilize him?
I kept watching as he took steps towards Rachel who walked backwards slowly. She was petrified, staring at Luna Cersera who was too scared to do anything.
My brain refused to accept this. Flashes of me and Rachel playing when we were still little passed through my mind. She was still my baby sister. Nothing changed about that.
I stopped thinking and my body dashed forward without me even moving it. I guess I loved my sister more than my own life.
I stepped in-between them just as he was about to raise his hand on her.
"Stay away from my sister!" I yelled at him, my teeth clenching in hatred. If no one would stand up to him, I would.
He stopped, sized me up and squinted his eyes.
"What do you think you're doing, Crystal? You imbecile!" Luna Cersera yelled from the throne.
"I'm doing what you're too weak to do, protecting my family!" I yelled back at her.
In this moment, I was in the spotlight. Everybody had their eyes on me. I could see their shock and surprise. Some of them had even forgotten I existed.
"And who are you?" I heard the devil ask.
His eyes were no longer burning for whatever reason. He looked as if his madness was gone and now that I was up close to him, I saw his face properly. Black messy hair and dark deep eyes that were void of emotions.
"I'm her elder sister. And her guardian. You're not allowed to touch her" I said fiercely, not appearing intimidated by him at all. I didn't care what was going to happen but he wasn't touching Rachel.
Then he chuckled. Huh? The devil had a humourous side? Except I wasn't seeing what was funny.
"What's funny?" I asked, obviously offended.
"Of everybody here in this hall, you're the least person to be afraid of. You don't have anything of interest or even a whiff of power in you. I can't even sense a wolf in you. You're literally the weakest here and you're the one stopping me?" He smirked.
What a sadistic bastard! He was finding joy in my weakness and the fact that I was the one who stood up to him? Talk about a psycho.
"I may be the weakest but I won't let you anywhere near Rachel. You'll have to tear me to pieces before you go anywhere near her. And even after you do, my ghost will still protect her. Trust me, you don't want the ghost of a cursed girl haunting you" I threatened.
I saw Luna Cersera staring at me like I was some lunatic or I had gone crazy. Everybody in the crowd looked at me the same. But it didn't matter to me. He wasn't touching my sister.
"Tear you to pieces? Heh, I would never do that. As a matter of fact, you just saved your entire pack from being destroyed" he said and turned around.
What? He wasn't bloodthirsty anymore? I was confused.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
He stopped and looked over his shoulder. "What I mean is I've found my mate. Nothing about you interests me whatsoever but somehow my wolf howled for you inside me. That makes you my mate" he said and began walking out of the hall.
"Meet me in my quarters" he ordered before exiting.
Third Person POVElder Marwen’s old and wrinkled eyes flickered in surprise.“Denounce her? Even if she proves her worth?” it sounded blasphemous to him.“She has no worth,” Talia said coldly, her tone cutting through his doubt like a blade.“She is a distraction. A danger. The Moon Goddess herself may have made her Adrian’s mate, but that does not mean we must accept her. This council decides the direction of the pack. Or haven't you seen how chaotic everything has been since she came?” she edged into them.Elder Cassian shifted, his thick hands clasped tightly. “And what of the other girl, Sylvia? I believe her to be a much more worthy mare. But she is still missing, and until she is returned, this entire matter remains… incomplete” he replied. At the mention of Sylvia, Talia’s smile sharpened. She allowed a second’s pause before answering. “Sylvia will return. And when she does, you will denounce her as well” she responded gently. The council room immediately erupted in confusion.
Third Person POVTalia observed herself carefully in the mirror."Perfect" she told her chief maid who stood behind her. After dressing up and making sure she looked and felt like the Queen Mother the pack knew, she immediately left her chambers to meet with the council. The long, dim corridor that led to the council chamber echoed with the deliberate click of her heels. She had taken her time to dress appropriately, every design on her gown was well calculated, every ornament on her body was chosen with intent. She was wearing a deep crimson dress embroidered with silver threads, a reminder of her position and a deliberate statement of her power and bloodline. Just in case any of those elders forgot. The soft rustle of the silk filled her ears as she walked, her lips pressing into a thin line of confidence. Her mind, however, was anything but calm. She was still having flashbacks to what Adrian has said. She scoffed. He has lost his mind… sending word to Blood Moon Fangs? Is he so ea
Crystal's POVI paced about inside the room. Inside this Goddess forsaken lonely, boring and secluded room.It had been a whole day! A whole day since he left me inside here!Maybe not technically whole day of twenty four hours but he had left me in here all alone since morning. Now under normal circumstances, I wouldn't even be bothered or worked up. I shouldn't be normally. But he had raised my hopes up the minute he brought me inside here."This is where you will be spending the next two nights with me"Those were his words, not mine. So don't blame me for feeling abandoned when he wasn't here all day with me.But he said two nights. My inner voice tried to reason with me. But I refused."He didn't say only nights!" I muttered in disagreement. Then I scoffed and stopped pacing about, slumping into the sofa. What was I even being worked up about? He was an Alpha and he definitely had other things to attend to beside me. Maybe I was becoming what I said I wouldn't be...Dependent on
Third Person POVTalia remained frozen in her chambers long after the echo of the slamming door had died. Her son’s words still rang in her ears, repeating and relentless:“If Sylvia isn’t found by morning, I will send word to her father at Blood Moon Fangs"Some seconds after the door slammed, her lips parted as if to say something to his last statement but then she came to the realization that he was long gone.Slowly, her hand curled into the towel knotted at her chest, her fingers digging into the fabric as disbelief settled like ice in her veins. For a long moment, she sat utterly still, the golden glow of the chamber’s lamps washing over her features, making the tight line of her jaw and the storm in her eyes all the more visible.“That foolish boy…” she hissed under her breath, her voice trembling between fury and bewilderment. "He will be the undoing of this pack and his father's legacy" she added, exhaling.Adrian was her son, her proud creation. And here he was ready to risk
Adrian's POVIt was already late in the evening.I stormed through the corridors of the mansion, each heavy step echoing like the pounding in my skull. Fury coursed through me as I headed towards her chambers.I had searched the entire mansion for her usual public places and she was nowhere to be found. I was about to be really mad if I walked in on her lying down or gossiping with those Goddess-awful maids of hers. The guards stationed outside straightened the moment they caught sight of me. Their eyes flickered with unease but none dared stop me. They knew better. When I was in this kind of mood, it was best not to get in my way or body parts got dismembered. They parted immediately, giving me access. My hand shoved the door open without hesitation, and I barged inside. The sight that greeted me only fueled my rage further. She lay sprawled across a velvet lined massage bed, her golden hair spilling over the sides like liquid sunlight, her expression one of perfect indulgence. Two h
Adrian's POVI looked at all their faces. The forest’s silence was louder than ever as they all held their breaths waiting for my words. That gnawing suspicion, the possibility of betrayal festering inside Gravepine’s walls, still twisted in my chest, but I swallowed it down.I couldn’t afford to let it spill, not even as a whisper to my men. These were men who had fought countless battles beside me. Men who had spilled blood for and with me.My men were loyal, I knew this. Each of them would die before turning against me. To voice that suspicion aloud would not only insult them. It would also fracture the very spine of my command. And fractured spines crumbled before you even knew it.No, I wasn't going to tell them my conjecture..So I masked it. A firm, unreadable expression locked into place as I gave my final order.“Keep searching. I don’t care if you have to tear every tree root out of this soil. Report anything unusual directly to Maddox. No mistakes. Understand?”"Yes, Lord A
