Adrian's POV

I didn’t bother knocking. The guards outside my mother’s chambers shifted uneasily when they saw me striding toward them, but neither dared to step in my way. They knew better. My wolf was restless, pacing beneath my skin, and every muscle in my body was tight.

I shoved the heavy double doors open, letting them slam against the walls. The sound echoed through the chamber like a war drum.

I saw her seated near the window, the evening sun casting a golden rim around her hair. The perfect picture of calm. My mother never flinched, not even when chaos was raging inches away from her.

If she was startled, she didn’t show it. She sat at her own leisure, the soft gold light from the chandeliers painting her profile like she belonged in some delicate portrait. But I wasn’t here to admire her composure. I wasn’t here to pretend.

I was raging inside me. Why would she try to pull this act?

She caught my reflection in the mirror, one brow arching in that way that somehow managed to c

Crystal's POVI remained frozen long after Adrian had left, my knees weak and my breath shuddering in uneven waves. The water rippled quietly against my skin, but my mind was filled with chaos. His voice still echoed in my ears, deep and sure, claiming I was attractive as I was, as though he had read my mind and looked right into my insecurities, crushing them with one calm statement. The water had gone lukewarm, but I hadn’t noticed until goosebumps began crawling all over my skin. I stayed there, slouched against the edge of the tub, Adrian’s voice still echoing in my head like a broken record i couldn't turn off."You’re attractive the way you are"It should have been just simple words. But the way his gaze had devoured me through the glass, the way his tone had carried a command woven into desire, it clung to me like heat that wouldn’t cool off. My stomach twisted, torn between a ridiculous bloom of satisfaction and the a slight ache of anger. Why had he come in here? Why had he s

  • TAMING THE RUTHLESS ALPHA   Chapter 39 - Perfect Too

Crystal's POVThe bathwater was warm, almost too warm, but it still wasn’t enough to melt the cold knot that had settled in my chest.Lyra had drawn it for me with meticulous care, several rose petals drifting lazily on the surface. The steam was rising in soft vapor toward the high ceiling. I should have been relaxed. I should have been able to let the tension seep out of my bones. Instead, every time I closed my eyes, she was there.Sylvia.That smug smirk. That effortless poise. The way she had walked past me without so much as a flicker of acknowledgment, as though I were nothing more than furniture in the hall. My mind kept replaying it, the image of her with wet hair, freshly wet, looking every inch the kind of woman men didn’t just look at. They chased. The kind of woman Adrian would chase.I sank lower into the bath, letting the water cover my shoulders, my collarbone and my neck.It didn’t help. My thoughts painted pictures I didn’t want to see. Adrian leaning toward her, his

  • TAMING THE RUTHLESS ALPHA   Chapter 38 - Unwanted Intruder

Crystal's POVThe moment Maddox vanished, literally vanished, out of thin air, I was still trying to decide if my mind had imagined it when the library door burst open.Lyra was the first one that came through, her eyes darting around like she expected to find the shelves on fire. The guards filed in after her, their hands already on their weapons.“My lady, are you alright?” one of them asked. It felt like he was genuinely concerned. I didn't know if it was just me wanting some support that made it sound like that to me.I blinked at them, then smiled faintly. “Well, I'm feeling much more better this time than the last time you came running in. You actually managed to match the intruder’s exit this rime” I replied.Lyra’s lips pressed together, either in irritation or relief, I couldn’t tell which it was. Maybe it was regret that she wasn't prompt last time. Maybe she felt inadequate because of that. Or maybe it was relief that I was actually safe and sound.“I’m perfectly fine,” I a

  • TAMING THE RUTHLESS ALPHA   Chapter 37 - Adrian's Best Friend

Crystal's POVThe library was quieter than the rest of the mansion. Even the faint sound of distant footsteps moving about outside seemed muted in here, swallowed by the towering shelves and the heavy scent of old paper.I didn't even know how I ended up in here. I had walked around the mansion, Lyra and a pair of guards following me. I looked outside at the different areas of the pack I could see. Finally, I found myself in front of a strange door and opened it. It turned out to be a library.I trailed my fingers across the covers of the books, some cracked with age, others polished and new. My eyes looked over the golden ink titles, histories of the Gravepine Pack, volumes of recorded battles, and the chronicles of Adrian’s father. That one caught my attention. For some reason, I wanted to know the man who gave birth to this unpredictable monster. The accounts painted him like a myth, like a warrior, strategist and king. He was the founder of the modern Gravepine. There was no page

  • TAMING THE RUTHLESS ALPHA   Chapter 35 - Sylvia

Adrian's POVThe walk to the private pool was supposed to have been calming. But it wasn’t.Every step felt heavier, my boots grinding into the sandy ground on the path to the pool. The air was warm, the scent of fresh rain hanging over the forest. It was a little forest behind the mansion that led to the pool. On any other circumstances, I would have felt refreshed. But right now, none of it mattered. All I could see, over and over again, was the way Crystal had looked at me from that balcony. The brief flicker of her eyes as they fell on me.And then the clean, effortless dismissal, like I was just another face in the crowd. It shouldn’t have mattered.I told myself it didn’t matter. But for some reason, I felt irritated. But my chest still ached with that small, sharp sting, like she had reached in and twisted something inside me before walking away.My wolf paced restlessly under my skin, his claws itching. Kratos continued growling and grunting inside me, constantly reminding me
