Chapter 6: Tracking me down

last update Last Updated: 2025-12-08 20:05:28

Riley Pov

Before I can answer, he’s out of the Jeep, rounding the front. My door opens and he reaches in, unbuckles me, and hauls me out like I weigh nothing.

ā€œNoahā€”ā€

He backs me against the warm hood, his hands caging me in. The metal is still hot from the engine.

He rests his forehead against mine. ā€œNever again, Riley don’t get in cars with him. You don’t let him touch you. You don’t even look at him.ā€

I should fight. I should scream. Instead I nod, small and broken.

He opens the passenger door again. ā€œGet inside, I'm going out.ā€

I took my purse and ran inside, my heart hammering against my chest. I don’t stop until I’m in my room, door shut, back pressed against it. I strip out of the cropped sweater and jeans, kick them into the corner like they’re contaminated, and storm into the bathroom. The shower is scalding. I stand under it until my skin is pink and the mirror is completely fogged, trying to wash the night off me.

When I finally step out, I'm already in my oversized T-shirt and shorts, but I stop dead in my tracks when I see Noah in my room.

He’s sitting on the edge of my bed, elbows on his knees, playing on his phone. The tattoos that I’ve only seen a little, now are on full display. He has black ink crawling over his shoulders, chest and ribs. A bird flying across his collarbone.

He doesn’t even look phased to see me.

ā€œWhat are you doing in my room Noah?" I huffed. I am so fed up with his antics, ever since I came to this house,he has always been on my business. I've always wanted a sibling but now I know it isn't always great having a step brother, I'd rather be by myself like I used to.

He raised his head and motioned to my phone. ā€œI was passing by when I heard your phone buzzing,so I decided to come in to tell you to shut your annoying phone but turns out you were having your beauty shower".

My mouth hangs open, the audacity of this guy. ā€œSo? That doesn't give you permission to invade my privacy. What is wrong with you?"

For a second he just looks at me,his blue eyes piercing through mine like he wants to figure out what am thinking, then he shrugs ā€œI thought I was doing you a favor"

ā€œGet out Noah! I'm done arguing with you."

He stands up and starts walking towards me slowly and I backs myself until I reach the wall,he places his hands on the wall cornering me. ā€œI was expecting a simple thank you from you but you're a really ungrateful princess. Should I go tell your mom about what you have been up to tonight?"

My heart skipped a beat, I don't want my mom to think that I'm busy parting out and not studying, so instead of deflating his huge ego that doesn't match his penis, I shook my head.

ā€œI don't think it's your business telling my mom about what I'm doing.ā€

He smirked" oh! It's my business princess. I'm your brother, have you forgotten about that?ā€

" Noahā€”ā€

My phone ringing interrupted me, and Noah decided to leave my room but not before

winking at me.

Disgusting!

I take my phone and see it's Lila calling me.

ā€œHi Lila—"

ā€œGirl! First of all,you left the party in a hurry and now you don't reply to our messages! Are you okay?" Lila shouted over the phone.

I remove my phone away from my ear for a moment because of her loud voice then place it back.

ā€œI'm okay Lila, thank you for checking on me."

Lila sighed ā€œOkay,so are you coming tomorrow?"

I raised my brows confused, going where?

ā€œUm–what are you saying? What are you talking about?"

ā€œDidn't you see the messages? Ethan sent you a message. We're inviting you to come study with us tomorrow at Ethan's apartment. So are you coming?ā€

That explains everything. Noah deleted Ethan's message when he was in here. Who does he think he is? Going through my phone like that? That is too much.

"Hello–hello? Riley are you there?ā€

" Yes! I will come over tomorrow. Thank you Lila, I've to go deal with something,I will call you backā€

" Okay then. See you tomorrow" Lila cheered over the phone then hung up.

Now I have to deal with an excuse a brother. I march down the hallway before I can talk myself out of it. When I reach his room, the door is closed, but there’s a light coming underneath.

I push it open without knocking and come face to face with him. He’s laying shirtless on his bed, still playing with his phone.

He sat up straight and looked at me bored ā€œWhat do you want Riley? I'm busy now"

ā€œYou deleted it,ā€ I say, my voice shaking with fury.

He doesn’t even blink. ā€œDeleted what?ā€

ā€œ You deleted Ethan’s message. The one about study group. Don’t lie to me.ā€

he shrugs. ā€œI was holding your phone while you were in the shower then a message came in and I didn’t like what I read.ā€

ā€œYou had no rightā€”ā€

ā€œI have every right.ā€ His voice is quiet. ā€œYou live in my house. You’re myā€”ā€ He stops himself, clenching his jaw.

ā€œI’m your what, Noah?ā€ I step closer, balling my fists ā€œYour stepsister? Your problem? Or your property?ā€

He stands up slowly, towering over me. ā€œPick one. I don't mind any of thatā€

I step back a little trying to create enough space between us . ā€œYou…you–you’re unbelievable.ā€

I look up at Noah, his eyes flick to the screen, then back to me. Something dark flashes across his face and gone as fast as it came.

ā€œI will go,ā€ I say.

ā€œNo,ā€ he says, just as calm. ā€œYou’re not going anywhere.ā€

ā€œWatch me.ā€

I turn to leave, his hand shoots out, fingers closing around my wrist firmly enough that I stop.

ā€œI’m free tomorrow afternoon,ā€ he hisses ā€œI’ll tutor you here. So you don’t need to go anywhere.ā€

I yank my arm free. ā€œYou don’t have to decide my schedule because of your jealousy.ā€

His eyes narrow. ā€œI’m not jealous.ā€

ā€œThen why did you delete the message?ā€

He doesn’t answer, just stares at me like he’s trying to figure out how to make me disappear without touching me.

I step closer so that I have to crane my neck to hold his gaze. ā€œ I know my mom begged you to tutor me, it's fine. But I’m still going to Ethan’s. And you will not try stop me.ā€

For a second I think he’s going to snap and slap me from the way his jaw ticks, his hand flexes at his side like he wants to grab me again. But instead he steps back, his facade masking his feelings.

ā€œDo whatever you want, Riley,ā€ he says. ā€œJust don’t come crying to me when he tries something you’re not ready for.ā€

He turns away, dismissing me.

I storm out, slamming his door so hard the frame shakes the wall. When I get back to my room, I text Lila before I can second-guess myself and bail my friends again. They have been nothing but helpful and sweet to me, especially Ethan.

I’m in. I will come at 3 and bring snacks.

I toss the phone on my bed and collapse face-first into the pillows and scream so loud trying to erase the anger that I have inside.

The next morning I woke up earlier than anyone in order to avoid everyone, specifically Noah. I skip breakfast and slip out before Mom can ask questions, and spend the day on campus hiding in the library until it’s time to meet Lila and Ethan.

When the group time arrive I’m walking across the campus when my phone buzzes and see unknown number

Change of plans.Tutoring starts at 4.

Be home.

I stare at the screen, rage boiling in my chest. I type back before I can stop myself.

Me: I’m busy.

The reply came instant.

4:15 then.

Don’t make me come get you again.

I turn my phone off, because I don't want to deal with him now. I don't know why; I have met a lot of people, a lot of guys but none of them gets on my nerves like Noah does.

Ethan’s apartment is a third-floor walk above a coffee shop. Lila lets me in with a squeal and hugs me tightly.

ā€œTook you long enough!ā€ she says, dragging me inside.

Ethan is on the couch, with a statistics book open on his lap. His hair is messy like he’s been running his hands through it.

He looks up and smiles genuine, nothing like the storm I left at home.

ā€œHey,ā€ he says. ā€œGlad you made it.ā€

We begin to study,in the middle of the session we laugh, tease each other while we wait for pizza delivery. For three hours I felt happier than normal.

A few minutes later, there’s a knock on the door. The person knocking doesn't know anything about the patience, because he keeps pounding on the door like a madman.

Lila frowns. ā€œPizza guy already came, that was so fast.ā€

Ethan gets up to answer it, when he opens it, it is Noah who stands in the doorway, filling the frame with his massive body, black hoodie pulled up, hands in his pockets. His eyes scan the room and land on me.

Ethan blinks. ā€œUh… can we help you?ā€

Noah doesn’t even glance at him and continues to glare at me. ā€œRiley. Let’s go.ā€

Lila’s mouth drops open. ā€œDo you seriously track her phone or something?ā€

Noah’s gaze doesn’t leave me. ā€œShe knows why I’m here.ā€

I stand slowly, my heart hammering. ā€œI turned my phone off.ā€

ā€œI can see that.ā€ His voice is calm which means it's about to go down. ā€œGet your stuff.ā€

Ethan steps forward to square him, I don't know if it is him being brave or stupid. ā€œDude, she’s studying. She’ll leave when she’s ready.ā€

Noah finally looks at him. Just a flick of eyes, but Ethan takes an actual step back, probably from fear because Noah isn't small like the majority of guys I know,he is huge.

I grab my bag before this gets worse. ā€œIt’s fine. I have to go.ā€

Lila grabs my arm. ā€œRiley, you don’t have toā€”ā€

ā€œI do,ā€ I say quietly. ā€œI will call you"

I walk past Noah and he follows without a word. The second the door closes behind us, he speaks.

ā€œNext time you decide to turn your phone off to avoid me, just remember that I will tear this campus apart until I find you. Understand?ā€

Riley POVComing back to university again feels like a different planet after the last few days. Everything is noisy in that quiet way like pages turning, laptops clicking and people whispering. I’m supposed to be focusing on my statistics notes as I'm way below average grade, but every time I try, I still feel Noah's fingers between my legs.Lila slides into the seat across from me, dumping her bag with a sigh.ā€œYou look like you got hit by a truck. In a sexy way of course.ā€I groan, dropping my head to the table.ā€œPlease don’t ask.ā€Ethan arrives a minute later, carrying three coffees. He sets one in front of me and drops into the chair right beside me. He sits so close to me that his thigh brushes mine under the table as he leans in to see my notes.ā€œYou missed the review session yesterday,ā€ he says, his voice soft and concerned. ā€œI saved you my notes. Here, lookā€”ā€He angles his laptop toward me, his arm draping at the back of my chair. His fingers toying with a strand of my hair

  • TANGLED WITH MY MAFIA STEPBROTHER Ā Ā Ā Chapter 20: Already Lost

Noah POVI lasted exactly thirty seconds after the door shut.Thirty seconds of staring at her in the middle of my room, with notebook clutched to her chest like a shield, eyes wide with defiance and that lingering hurt from how I left her last time.Thirty seconds before I broke.Every time I imagine what it would feel like to stop holding back and then remember exactly why I have to.She doesn’t know how many times I’ve stood right here, staring at the door, convincing myself that wanting her is the same as endangering her. That if David were to find out about this then none of us will be able to survive his wrath. And wanting her has never been the problem.I wanted her since the first day I saw her and no, not at the frat party. I saw Riley way before when David ordered me to look after her in shadows. she was with her best friend at a fair—She was and still is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. Drowning everything out, I kiss her until she’s gasping, back pressed to the wal

Riley POVI practically run down the hallway, my notebook clutched to my chest like a shield. My heart is still hammering so hard I can feel it in my throat, and everywhere.Noah’s words keep repeating in my head.ā€œBecause if I stayed, I would’ve ruined you completely.ā€And then my stupid, reckless response ā€œMaybe I wanted that.ā€How stupid I can get?! I can’t believe I said it out loud. I’ve never been that bold in my life not with anyone. But with him, it’s like every filter I have just dissolves like my mouth decides to betray me the second he looks at me with those dark, guarded eyes.I reach the kitchen and force myself to slow down, sucking in a deep breath before I step inside.Mom’s already at the counter, setting out sandwiches and salad while David is already at the table, scrolling on his phone, looking relaxed in a way that somehow makes the room feel smaller.ā€œHey, sweetie,ā€ Mom says, smiling over her shoulder. ā€œHow’s the studying going?ā€ā€œGood,ā€ I lie, sliding into a ch

Noah POVI knew it was coming. When David mentioned it at breakfast, casually—that Riley’s grades were slipping and that a responsible older figure should help her.In his words he mean he wants to see what I do under pressure. Wants to see if I break. And putting Riley in my room? That’s not a coincidence. That’s a test.I’ve spent the last hour cleaning my desk even though it was already clean. Busy organizing pencils I don’t use and rearranging books I’ve already memorized.Trying not to breathe too deeply because her scent is still in my head from last night, too damn addictive.Trying not to think about how her legs shook around my shoulders or the sound she made when she came.I drag a hand over my face.I should’ve said no.But I can’t deny David anything.I’m staring at the textbook when I hear footsteps outside my door. My heart kicks once—hard. I Know she's Infront of the door probably hesitating. I can feel it the way she probably bites her lip debating running back to

Riley POVI’ve managed to avoid everyone all morning.I lingered in my room until I heard the front door close David leaving for whatever ominous business he handles before breakfast and then I bolted downstairs for water before anyone could catch me.My legs are still trembling and my mind is still replaying last night on a loop.Noah’s mouth on me the way he looked at me right before he walked out, like he was choosing to drown instead of pulling me under with him.I should be thinking about school, or homework, or literally anything else, but all I can think is:He left. And he meant it.I’m halfway through a glass of water when Mom calls from the dining room.ā€œRiley? Come here, sweetheart.ā€I freeze.Sweetheart is never good, it means she’s about to say something I won’t like.I walk in slowly, trying not to look guilty even though I haven’t done anything wrong unless melting under Noah counts. She’s flipping through my school portal on her tablet, with glasses perched on her nose

Noah POVDavid is already sitting in the leather chair by the fireplace, one leg crossed over the other, with a glass of whiskey warming between his fingers like he has all the time in the world.I hate when he looks relaxed. It always means he’s two steps ahead of everyone else.I take the seat across from him—the one he expects me to take leaning back like I’m calm, like my pulse isn’t still hammering from what happened upstairs. He gestures with the glass.ā€œRough night?ā€I keep my face blank.ā€œI didn’t sleep.ā€ā€œMm.ā€ He takes a sip. ā€œYou’ve been restless lately.ā€Restless.If he knew why…If he knew I spent the night between Riley’s legs, with her voice cracking in my mouth…I swallow hard, jaw flexing once and I'm thankful he doesn’t notice.Or he pretends not to.ā€œLet’s talk,ā€ he says, setting the glass down with a soft click. ā€œAbout your gang.ā€My shoulders tense but not visibly.
