Lisa POV

The surrogacy contract lay sprawled across the duvet. I hadn't left this bed since last night. My eyes burned, dry from a total lack of sleep. Alpha Kieran’s words from yesterday played on a loop in my head.

I flipped through the pages, searching the fine print as if a secret exit would appear if I stared long enough. My mind raced through every disaster scenario. Every clause and bold line shouted what I owed them. It told me what I couldn't do. It listed the punishments if I failed.

This is the most frustrating story. We have an alpha who it’s so stupid he won’t listen to the people he trust most. How long are you gonna drag this out author

Cameron POV The pack run reminded me that I was still an Alpha. Wolves spread across the training grounds before disappearing into the forest, where dominant ones tested each other through races and tactical maneuvers while younger wolves struggled to control their speed. I stayed close enough to guide them without running at my full speed. An Alpha did not need to prove he was the fastest every morning; the forest already knew who led it, and my howl rolled through the trees only when the pack needed direction.By the time we returned to the pack house, Franklin stayed nearby, watching for another episode. None came. I felt useful instead of broken, meaning the fools who had started whispering after my recent absences had nothing to criticize this morning.Inside, I stood beneath a hot shower until the scent of damp earth and sweat disappeared down the drain. Washing the forest away meant leaving the Alpha outside, and by the time I pulled on a T-shirt and sweatpants, I had become j

Lisa POVMom laughed as I dropped my backpack on the bed, then stepped forward and wrapped me in a warm hug."All I want is a hot bath to wash away the chapter house and everything I saw inside it," I said. She pulled back to look at me, then knelt to help me slide off my sandals. My feet were swollen, leaving deep red marks across my skin. I let out a long sigh the moment they were free. The bathroom filled with steam while I soaked until the heat reached my bones. When I finally climbed out, the heavy weight of the past few days felt smaller. I changed into an oversized shirt and loose shorts before climbing onto the bed. The mattress dipped under my weight, and I let out a soft groan."I missed this," I murmured as Mom lifted my legs onto her lap and started rubbing my tired feet."I figured you would," Mom said, keeping her strokes steady. "Pregnancy and narrow beds don't mix well."I closed my eyes and smiled, breathing in the familiar scent of home. My eyelids grew heavy as I cu

Lisa POVJoanna had asked for my expected delivery date. She explained that over the next few months, I would spend designated nights at the chapter house. The closer I got to giving birth, the more often they would ask me to stay because they were watching for opportunities.Over the next few days, the chapter house slowly revealed itself to me.It wasn't only a shelter. It was evidence. Preparation. The Daughters didn't treat every case the same because the Meridian didn't destroy every life the same way. They studied the damage, adapted to it, and built their response around it.The house ran on routines that felt ordinary until I looked closer.A board near the entrance listed rules instead of welcomes.Never reveal another sister's location. No visitors after curfew. No private contact with a partner still under Meridian influence while staying in the house.Older women who didn't bother greeting newcomers claimed the front porch every evening. They watched me come and go with di

Cameron POV My fists stayed clenched as Nadia blocked the shortest path to the door without making it obvious, while Franklin seized the overnight bag I'd packed to leave."Cameron, nobody's asking you to stay with her forever," Nadia said. "We're asking you not to make a permanent decision while you're furious."I threw the stack of reports onto the desk."I've never been more certain of anything." My voice shook with anger. "She was filing reports and progress updates on me while I was carrying her to doctors because I thought she was dying."Every panic Evangeline had caused us was a lie. They had taken something as sacred as trust and reduced it to measurable progress inside an operation."There's nothing left to fix. She made it clear that I'm just livestock. Stop standing in my way.""We're trying to keep you alive," Franklin said. "If dissolving the bond were as simple as doing the rejection ritual, I'd drive you there myself. But we don't know enough. Every person we've spoke

A strange reluctance settled over me as I followed Victoria out. Cassidy was the only familiar person in this place. Victoria was already halfway to the door by the time I caught up."How far along are you?" she asked as we headed down the hallway."Almost six months."She glanced at my stomach with a faraway smile. "You'll probably get tired of everyone asking you that.""I doubt it." I smiled. "You must be one of the older members."Victoria let out a scoff."Not even close. I've been here a month."I wondered what her story was. Every woman I'd met here seemed to carry one, but asking would be rude.We continued walking."So..." she said. "Which Alpha is your case tied to?""Alpha Cameron. Wild Fangs."She stopped. I didn't miss the flash of surprise that crossed her face before it disappeared. Then she whispered, "Evangeline.""You know her?""Sort of," she said.Questions rushed through my mind. Was she close to Evangeline? She didn't seem to want to say more, so I let the silenc

Cassidy still sounded strained over the phone, like I was interrupting her. Before, that would have made me anxious. Now I knew better."I wanted to confirm tomorrow.""It's still tomorrow.""I know. I mean... should Alpha Kieran's guard drop me at your place?"A short silence followed."Yes. Eight-thirty. One second late and you're on your own.""I'll be there."The call ended before I could say anything else. For someone who claimed she didn't want company, she seemed to be getting more bearable to my presence, even though nothing had changed between us, but she no longer felt like a stranger. My mom looked up from the couch."Everything settled?"I nodded, and she grew quiet."I still think you shouldn't become too attached."The words caught me off guard, and she explained herself."We don't want to get our hopes crushed because we still don't know their decision. If they say no, we walk away."I understood what she meant. If the daughters decided I wasn't worth the cost, Cassidy

Lisa POV“This is so fucked up, Lisa.” Sasha dragged a breath through the phone. “You’re supposed to sleep with this guy while his mate’s portrait watches? Who even does that? The house felt empty when we returned to pack our things. My mother paced the length of the living room, her hands twisting the fabric of her sweater."If Kade’s proposal is real, maybe you should think about it, Lisa. It would be a safe path. You would stay here, in the pack."I shook my head and c
