Chapter 22: The Witch and The Alpha

DAMIEN’S POV

Anya’s body felt too light in my arms—too soft, too still—like if I tightened my grip even slightly, she would slip straight through my fingers and disappear. Her hair brushed my forearm, streaked with dust and streaks of smoke, and beneath the grime her skin glowed faintly. Not from the firelight, not from lanterns, but from her.

My witch.

The word punched through my skull for the hundredth time in the last ten minutes. My witch. I’d always known she carried it—something old, something rare, something the rest of the world would destroy or exploit if they ever sensed it. I thought I had more tune before it awakened, I’d prepared for slow shifts, small bursts, subtle flares.

Not this. Not the ground cracking open beneath her feet, not the purple blaze swallowing rogues whole, not the wind she summoned with a flick of her fingers that sent warriors—full-grown wolves—sliding backward across stone like feathers.

And sure as hell, not

Chapter 34: Broken Crown DAMIEN’S POV Her words hit me harder than any blade ever could:“I love you, Damien, I really do. But my heart still beats for him. I can’t help it.”I stood there in that doorway staring at her tear-streaked face and felt something inside me crack wide open. The room tilted as Valek roared so loudly that my ears rang. I wanted to grab her, to shake her, to scream at her and ask how dare she stand there and choose the bastard who rejected her. But I didn’t. Because if I stayed one more second the curse would rise and I would wrap my hands around her throat and finish what I didn’t accomplish two years ago. So I turned and walked out. The hallway blurred as I moved. My boots carried me to the study on pure instinct, I needed to be away from people. I slammed the door so hard the hinges groaned and the lock clicked like a gunshot. Then the rage came. “Ahgggh—Nngh!!” I screamed. Not words, just raw sound torn from my chest loud enough to rattle the window

Chapter 33: My Heart Beats For Him ANYA’S POV Damien had been strange all day, it felt like he was trying to avoid me. I saw him only in flashes between doors as he spoke in low tone with Gavin and stared at maps like the borders were on fire. Whenever I tried to get his attention he would touch my cheek and tell me that he would join me soon. But he never came. Now the moon hung full and shiny outside his bedroom window as I stood under the shower letting hot water pound my shoulders. Steam filled the bathroom and blurred the mirror as I closed my eyes and tried to wash the worry away but it clung to my skin like damp silk. Something was wrong, I felt it in my bones. When I finally stepped out, I wrapped a towel around myself and dried slowly. Iris had left a soft black slip nightdress that slid over my body like water on the counter. I brushed my hair until it fell smooth down my back before I padded barefoot into the bedroom. The bed looked huge and empty as I crawled under the

Chapter 31: Poison ROWAN’S POV I never went back to the bedroom that night. After I shifted back from the lake I stood under the cold shower in the guest wing until my skin went numb and the water ran clear of mud and tears. Then I wrapped a towel around my waist, walked straight to the study and locked the door behind me. The leather couch became my bed as I laid there in the dark staring at the ceiling while Cassandra’s voice looped inside my skull like a broken record. Every time I shut my eyes I saw Anya on her knees in the rain begging me to believe her while I called her a killer. Sleep never came so I stayed up counting the cracks in the plaster until the sun bled through the curtains and painted the room grey walls red. When I finally walked into the dining hall the smell of bacon and fresh bread hit me like a slap. The long oak table was already set with silver and crystal because apparently we were royalty now. Cassandra sat at the head of the table in pale blue silk th

Chapter 31: An Incoming Disaster DAMIEN’S POV Morning light slipped through the heavy curtains and painted gold stripes across the sheets. Anya lay curled against my chest with her dark hair fanned over my arm and her breathing soft and slow. My marking stood proud on the curve of her neck, two perfect fang bites that still smelled faintly of blood and sex. I pressed my lips to her forehead as I sniffed her jasmine and warmth scent and everything I never thought I would hold without destroying. She stirred as her lashes fluttered before opening those big hazel eyes and looked straight at me. A shy smile tugged at her mouth before colour flooded her cheeks and she tried to roll away, hiding her face in the pillow. I laughed low, hooked an arm around her waist and dragged her back until her back pressed flush to my front. “Good morning, little fox.” She peeked over her shoulder, her cheeks still burning. “Good morning.” I kissed the mark again slowly and deliberately as I felt he

Chapter 30: Before The Vow ROWAN’S POV I stood in the pack house hallway and signed off on the final seating chart for the wedding, we were expecting three hundred guests. Three hundred people who would watch me chain myself to a lie in four days. My hand shook as I handed the clipboard back to the planner and she smiled like everything was perfect. I forced one back as I walked away before she saw the cracks in my resolve. The day had drained me thoroughly, I had meetings with the elders, I’d gone on three border patrols checks, I’d gone to check on the flowers and the menu tastings. All of it felt like moving through water. But despite all these my mind stayed on Anya even though I wasn’t supposed to be thinking about her as I was about to walk down the aisle with her elder sister. I told myself that marrying Cassandra would keep her close enough to watch her, close enough to catch whatever she hid behind those pretty tears. Actually I’ve been telling myself a lot of things thes

Chapter 29: Claimed ANYA’S POV His cock came out from his trousers, long and thick as its veins bulged along its shaft, the head was already glistening with pre-cum. My eyes locked on it with shock slamming through me. He was huge—far bigger than I’d imagined in my wildest, most secret thoughts. Fear twisted in my belly, mixing with the throbbing ache between my legs. How was that monster going to fit inside me without tearing me apart?Damien’s chuckle rumbled low and dark, his hand wrapping around the base as he stroked himself slowly, teasing me. “Are you scared, little fox?”I shook my head immediately as I struggled to push saliva down my throat. “No,” I lied breathlessly. “I was just… wondering how you’re going to fit inside me. I’m a virgin.” “You’re not kidding?” he asked, a hint of disbelief tugged at his face. “What about Rowan?” I shook my head. “We never did it, we were waiting until marriage,” I whispered as memories tried to claw its way into my mind. His eyes dar
