Elena had barely slept. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Gabriel's face in that ballroom, the shock, the pain, the desperate hunger in his emerald gaze as he watched her announce her engagement to Marcus.

Good, she told herself firmly. Let him feel a fraction of what he put me through.

But the satisfaction felt hollow.
