"What? What did I just hear you say dad?" I ask pretending to have not heard what my dad just said even though I heard him very clear enough for it to stick in my memory.

"Larissa, it is for the best." Mum mumbles besides me. I scoot away from her. As a matter of fact, I can no longer take it. I rise to my feet and gaze at mum with a surprised look on my face. I refuse to believe what I just heard, I would rather just live in denial.

"I really do not understand what you guys are talking about there." I pause to choke out a hysteric laughter and continue. "This must be a prank? A joke right? You people are joking right?" I yell with anger fuming in me. I scoff and run a hand through my hair while pacing the small space.

This is unbelievable. I knew something was off between mum and dad the moment they wanted me to return back to Hiddensville, the Moonfang pack as a matter of fact. That moment I knew something was wrong because mum and dad do not care about me and whatever I do so for them to want me to return back to the Moonfang pack, I knew something was definitely fishy but my mind never went that far to the worse. How could they do this to me? Come up with a conclusion to sell their daughter to a ruthless and heartless Alpha like Xavier. I shudder at the thought of him and snap out of it hastily.

"No, whatever crazy plan you both have in mind to escape from your debt. I will not be a part of it." I mumble. I turn around and attempt to walk towards the front door but Dad yells my name causing me to freeze in my steps. I turn around to gaze at him with a raised brow. A part of me silently hopes that he suddenly bursts into laughter and tells me that this is all just a joke.

A part of me hopes that mum will laugh about it and tell me a good news. I really hope so even though I know that is impossible.

"Do you plan on walking away from your parents? Since when did you become like this Larissa? I thought you better!" Dad yells at me. Mum scurries towards him and tries to calm him down by mumbling soothing words but none of that works, Dad will always be the nonchalant one. He does not care about anyone's feelings but his own. He does not even love mum.

"No dad! I will not marry a man I do not love if that is what you are trying to say!" I yell at him with tears falling down my cheeks. Like I said earlier, I am not the kind to disobey the instructions of my parents, whenever I do, I end up breaking down in tears.

"Love? Larissa! Quit acting like a child! Nobody marries for love these days." Dad snaps at me while staring at me with disdain.

"Oh, you mean mum did not marry you for love. Do not worry dad, I know the story of how her parents sold her off to you. I refuse to end up like that!" I blurt out. I gaze at mum and notice the hurtful look on her face. I immediately regret saying such and i do not waste anymore time, I hastily apologize.

"I am sorry mum, I swear I did not mean it that way. I am just angry that you and dad have already come up with a conclusion on who I am going to marry. I just do not think it is fair at all." I say rubbing my temple in frustration.

Dad scoffs and shakes his head at me. "I can not believe that your biggest worry is marrying for love. Your parents are indebted to the powerful Alpha of the Moonfang pack, you and i both know how ruthless and self-centered he is yet all you care about is marrying for love. You do not even care about what could happen to us if we do not pay off the debt." Dad says shaking his head at me in disappointment.

Is dad right? Maybe he is, maybe I should not be worried about marrying for love but about what Xavier could do to my parents. I need to think of a plan, I am not having this conversation with my parents.

I nod my head slowly and mumble "That is right dad, Xavier is heartless yet you are willing to sell your daughter off to a heartless man. You should have thought about the consequences of your actions before taking money from a ruthless alpha."

I do not wait for my dad's reply. I turn around and walk away from him. I freeze in my steps and turn to mum. "Where will I be sleeping this night or do you people plan on sending me off to Xavier's place today?" I snap at mum. A confused look appears on her face and surprisingly dad speaks up way before her.

"The room on the left." He mumbles. I nod my head and sluggishly drag my feet towards the door on the left. I push the door open and step into the small room. There is only a small bed at the end corner, a small tv that looks broken and a wooden wardrobe. I release a heavy sigh and throw myself on the small bed. My eyes settle on the broken roof and I sigh again. If heavy rain were to fall, this whole place would be flooded honestly.

I shut my eyes close and think about everything. My parents want me to marry Xavier but I do not want to. I and Xavier go way back and honestly our history is not something I want to remember.

Am I making the right choice by refusing to marry him or not?

  • THE ALPHA'S BARGAINED BRIDE    chapter 50 Hidden truth

Kai POV**Larissa’s voice followed me even when she was silent. It was in the way her eyes burned, that wild mixture of fear and hope that pinned me where I stood. She wanted the truth. No, not wanted—she needed it, like air, like her whole body would collapse if I kept it from her any longer.“You can help me,” she said, her voice cracking but steadying again with every word. “I know you can. I have seen you do it before, Kai. Please… just do it.”I shook my head, every muscle in my body rigid. “You don’t understand what you’re asking.” My throat was tight, my hands flexing by my sides. “This isn’t some trick, Larissa. If I touch your mind with my claws, if I drag what you buried back to the surface… it could break you.”Her lips trembled, but she didn’t look away. She stepped closer, and I hated how her nearness softened my defenses, how her scent filled my lungs and made me forget reason. “I am already breaking,” she whispered. “I wake up in the night drowning in screams I cannot r

Kai’s hand locked around my arm like a shackle, his grip iron-tight as he dragged me back from the bars. Heat poured off him in waves, his fury so thick it felt like the whole corridor vibrated with it.“What the hell do you think you’re doing here?” His voice was sharp, dangerous, too loud in the narrow hallway.Mira stepped forward fast, blocking his path before he could yank me further. “Kai, wait…”“Move.” His command cut like a blade.“No.” Mira’s eyes sparked with defiance. She stood straighter, folding her arms like a barrier. “Don’t do this here.”The guards lingered at the door, tense but quiet. They didn’t need to move. Kai’s presence was enough to make the air burn.I tried to twist free, but his grip only tightened. Pain shot through my wrist, but it was nothing compared to the storm surging in my chest. “I just needed to talk to him.”“You needed?” Kai’s voice dropped to a dangerous calm that made my stomach turn. “Do you realize what you’ve done? Do you even think before

Sleep didn’t find me that night. I lay in the apartment’s dim quiet, the ceiling above me blurred by shadows of passing headlights. Every time I shut my eyes I heard it again, his voice raw but unyielding. Family. That single word had carved itself into me, echoing through every pulse of my veins.I twisted under the blanket, restless. My chest felt heavy, like something was pressing down on me from the inside. The walls seemed closer than they should have, the silence too sharp. Kai had insisted on staying near, but even when he finally left with the promise to be back at first light, his warning stayed behind, heavier than his presence had been. Do not believe him. Do not let him near you again. And yet I couldn’t stop replaying the way those gray eyes had searched for me, desperate, like I was the last thing tethering him to this world. The door clicked softly, and I sat up quick. Mira stepped inside without knocking, carrying a blanket draped over her arms.“You look like hell,” s

The air in the room was still thick with Sera’s warning when Kai finally coaxed me out into the open. He said it would help, that I couldn’t hide in the four walls forever, and maybe he was right. But as I stepped into the afternoon light, I felt like the whole pack was watching, weighing me with their eyes. Mira was the one who tugged at my arm with her easy grin, insisting the pack needed to see me alive, not just whispered about. “You’re Luna now, whether you believe it or not,” she said. “They’ll only follow if they can look you in the eye.” So I went, Kai’s presence a steady line at my side, Mira bouncing ahead like she didn’t feel the quiet tension humming in the ground beneath us. The heart of the village was alive, women gossiping , children shrieking in play, men sharpening blades that gleamed in the sun. It was the kind of scene that should have felt safe, but every sound struck too sharp, every glance lingered a moment too long. I forced myself to smile. I held my head h

I woke because of the light, a pale stripe slicing across my eyelids. For a second the world felt slow and soft, like I was under water and everything moved easy. Then a warmth pressed against my arm, steady and real, and my breath hitched.Kai was still asleep, arm tossed over his face, chest rising and falling against mine. I curled my fingers around the edge of his sleeve without thinking, memorizing the steady rhythm of him. There was a ridiculous part of me that wanted to stay exactly like that forever, tucked into the space where none of my nightmares could find me.My mouth felt like I’d swallowed fire and water in the same breath. Last night was a blur of lips and heat, of fingers mapping the places I had kept closed for too long. The memory made something in me small and bright. I let it sit there, not trying to name it.He shifted then, not waking, just moving closer until I could feel the scrape of his beard against my cheek. He mumbled something that sounded like my name h

  • THE ALPHA'S BARGAINED BRIDE    chapter 45 it's you I want.

The walk back from the market with Sera had been filled with laughter, small talk, and the kind of lightness I hadn’t felt in a while. By the time we reached the clearing where the path split, she gave me a playful smile, tugged my arm, and said she needed to check on Mira. I didn’t argue. I just nodded and watched her disappear, leaving me standing there with a bag of fruits in my hand and silence pressing in. I lit a small lamp, its glow softening the corners of the room, and pressed my palms against the table as if grounding myself. That was when I felt it—the subtle shift in the air, the way the silence wasn’t silence anymore. My pulse quickened before I even turned. Kai was leaning against the doorway, like he’d been there longer than I realized. His eyes were dark, steady, taking me in. He didn’t look surprised to see me. If anything, it felt like he had been waiting, though his voice was casual when he spoke. “Thought you’d be with Sera longer.” “She had somewhere else
